Pokemon Black/White versions Discussion Thread

I really can't pick what game to get becuse they're both equally as bad. Do I go for Pokemon White witht he black legendary with the most ugly tail I've ever seen and weird arms or Pokemon Black with the white legendary with lack of wing anatomy, high-heels and another ugly tail?

Okay, forget about looks for a moment and think about it this way: would you rather have Zekrom (the "Black Legendary"), the only Pokemon who is a Dragon/Electric type and the only one with a double resistance to Electric type moves, or would you rather have Reshiram (the "White Legendary"), the only Pokemon who is a Dragon/Fire type and the only Fire Pokemon who is not weak to Water type moves?

I mean, sure, some of the Pokemon look rather silly, but its a series of games for children. Yeah, there are things in the game that still appeal to hardcore fans who have been playing since the series first came out, but even then, the games were basically glorified bug-catching simulators: you catch the monster, train the monster, fight battles with the monster.

I honestly don't care what the Pokemon looks like so long as I can kick my opponent's butt with it.

I'll probably buy it, play through it, and leave it where it lays. I tend to do that a lot these days. Also, the evolutions of the starters look horribly retarded, especially the grass one.

Your point is very valid. However, you forgot to include the "off-game" (as I like to call it) implications of pokemon.

Think for a moment, just alone, how much fan art there is of pokemon. If the newer pokemon are 'lacking' it's giving less to work with and depreciating overall value; causing the dreaded.. overrated-ness. That is only one example as such, but it should suffice my point.

@Hyphen: ok, so what I did was I watched the video a second time though, but the 2nd time I pretended that I had never seen a single pokemon in my life before; and it wasn't that bad.

Are they complete rip-offs? Most likely. Though, I don't think those one in particular look half bad honestly. Milotic is a pretty cool pokemon, even if it is a rip off, it still has the properties that I enjoy. (at least the don't look like gear.)

- The Evil leader of Team Plasma, Geechisu. (JESUS?!)
- N has that Glameow-y cat, which is a Dark-type.

- Monkey trio leaked yesterday. Grass, Fire and Water in that order.
- Fire knows Flame Burst, damages multiple opponents and Water knows Boiling Water, which is a Water-type move that burns.
- Emonga, the Electric/Flying Squirrel (no relation to Pachirisu -_-) Has an attack called Eleci Ball, which works like a Electric-type Gyro Ball.
- Victini has an attack called Flame Sphere, inflicts burn and hits all targets.

NEW POKEMON ALERT!

- Basurao, the Violent Pokemon, it's the green Bass. Pure Water, Has Reckless/Adaptability. There's angry looking red form and a vicious looking blue form, which form you get depends on the version.
- Yorterrie, the Puppy Pokemon. Normal, has Vital Spirit/Pick Up. Apparently, it's based on a Yorkie and a Terrier. Learns an attack called Cheer Up, which raises both Attack and Special Attack.
- Choroneko, the Bad Cat Pokemon. The Pokemon I pointed out in the beginning. It's a Dark-type and has Limber + a new ability called Acrobatic.

These are the early trailer Pokemon:

- Desukaan, we finally get to see its face! It's a Ghost type (no Ground :/) and has the ability Mummy, which gives you Mummy if you attack it.
- Ononokusu, the Chin Horn Pokemon, Pure Dragon. Has Rivalry and Mold Breaker. Has an attack called Dragon Tail, which may work like a Dragon-type Whirlwind.
- Denchura, a Bug/Electric Electric Spider Pokemon. Has Compoundeyes and Tension, which prevents the opponent from eating berries.
- Doryuuzu, the Earth's Core Pokemon, Ground/Steel and Mogryuu's evo (mole). Same abilities as its pre-evo, and learns an Ground attack called Drill Liner, has a high Crit ratio.

NEW POKEMON ALERT!

- Buffalon, the Headbutt Cow (?) Pokemon. The one with an afro on its head. It's a Normal type, has Reckless/Herbivore. It also has a signature attack called Afro Break, which works kinda like Counter.
- Dangoro, the Mantle Pokemon, Rock-type and Gigaiasu's pre-evo. It learns an attack called Drop Down, which knocks Flying types out of the sky.
- Mebukijika, the Season Pokemon, evolves from the deer Pokemon that changes with season. Same type/abilities as its pre-evo and changes in appearance like its pre-evo.
- Tabunne, the Healing Pokemon, the bunny that was seen in other videos. Has 2 new abilities, Healing Heart and Regenerate (doesn't say what they do, though). Knows Heal Wave, which restores its allies HP.
- Monmen, the Cotton Ball Pokemon and Churine, the root Pokemon. Both Grass-types, first one in Black, second one in White.
- Tamagetake, the Mushroom Pokemon, Grass/Poison type, has Effect Spore and has a Pokeball on its head. (possibly a trap Pokemon like Voltorb?) It learns Clear Smoke, which works like Haze.

Jyanobii - Tsutarja evolution - Grass - Grass Snake Pokemon
Chaobuu - Pokabu's evolution - Fire/Fighting - Fire Pig Pokemon
Futachimaru - Mijumaru's evolution - Water - Meditation Pokemon

- Reshiram and Zekrom have signature attacks that get stronger if the hit each other with it. Cross Fire (red) is Reshi's and Cross Thunder (blue) is Zek's.

- The first gym depends on what starter you chose, the Gym Leader that you fight is the one that you are weak too. Their types should be pretty obvious. >_>
- Aloe is a Normal-type Gym Leader, which is why the magazine recommends you use Pokabu's evo for her.
- Makomo lends you her Munna to enter the Dream World.

It looks okay, but most pokemon just look like alternate forms of each other, so probably won't be as much new pkmn?

Yea, I agree. As much as I hate to say, the new Pokémon are really starting to show a lack of innovation and originality... It's not really the creators' fault though, since there're only so many things you can base your Pokémon on, well, animals and plants, supernatural entities, and occasionally inanimate objects.

Oh well, at least I like the series, so whether the new Pokémon are innovative or not won't affect my opinion of the gameplay itself. I'll wait patiently for the game, just like a Wobbuffet! XD

It's great. It feels like a great improvement from the previous titles. Already beat the first gym, I'm on some fantasy-land/dreamworld now.

I am a fire-type person. =P But Pokabu is ugly, oh well. =\

Hey, so... can we get to discussing the actual game? Unless there's a better thread for it out there...

They're making a few significant changes with this one. For one thing, TMs are now reusable. For another, you're not allowed to trade Pokemon from the older games until you've beaten the game at least once. The sprites have a lot more motion, and the battles are much smoother and faster. They now have triple battles, which seem about as gimmicky as double battles did. However, I've heard of something called Rotation Battles, where each player sends out three Pokemon, but only one is the Pokemon that's "in combat"; either of the other two can be switched in for the "in combat" Pokemon during your turn for no penalty. They've also got a triple set of Pokemon that complement each other in triple battles. Some of the new Pokemon are completely ridiculous, but there are a few likable ones.

Also, for the first time, there are some significant differences between the two versions beyond just varying monster sets. Apparently, the game world of Black is much more modern, while the game world of White is more rural.

Can't remember too many other details about the game at the moment... I don't know if it's going to be as dramatically different as some of the new features tout it to be, but the new changes seem pretty fresh, and it looks like a lot of fun.
