Default The Princess And The Frog

Did most of you seen this movie?

I did. And I enjoy it. Now, we don't get movies like this one anymore and that's what makes The Princess and The Frog a wonderful movie.

For one thing, it is the return of Traditional Animation.

And it's a recreation of animation by Disney of the 90's. Also, it's got some comic and emotional and dramatic moments.

I didn't like it. It had too many eccentric characters to keep track of. It seemed like Disney was putting too much effort into trying to bring it back to the glory days. I'm not kidding when I say that I fell asleep during the movie. And that had NEVER happened to me before. (I do find it kind of strange that I was really sleepy during this movie, which isn't as bad as some other movies I've seen in theaters...)

The songs weren't memorable and neither was the plot. Or its overarching message. Even now, I can't remember what happened and who did what (but maybe that's because I was dozing off the whole time). Overall, it lacked the spark for me that traditional Disney movies have. And it's not just because I'm ten years older now... I'm assuming...

The movie sucked, but I liked it because Disney finally decided to do a throwback to 2D movies like The Beauty and the Beast.

    maor?
    You just misspelled a misspelling.

Never saq the movie, but I've been hearing the same things from friends an' such that Your Father and McDoom said, so I doubt I'll ever get around to watching it.

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely worth a watch. It just happens to be pretty bland and not do anything super special. A movie like The Princess and the Frog has not been hyped like Avatar or 2012, so you won't come out unsatisfied. It's pretty much disposable entertainment.

In my opinion, Disney will never be able to top The Lion King

The Lion King was actually the highest-grossing animated film ever until Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo was released (before that, I believe the highest-grossing 2D film was Little Mermaid). TLK still holds the record for highest-grossing traditionally animated film.

This is pretty much the biggest thing for me. (That and ZOMG BLK PRNCSS!!1) Apparently another 2D film will be coming out in the near future about Rapunzle, a seriously under-appreciated fairy tale. Can't wait to see how Disney does it. :D

The movie itself was alright. It was cute. I wish I had a little sibling or cousin to take to it because they'd probably enjoy it more than me, but I'm a sucker for traditional animation and found it fun to look at regardless.

As far as ticket sales go... Snow White is the leader, followed by 101 Dalmatians, with Lion King in third...

Edit: Actually if you count the Original Fantasia, it sold more tickets then the Lion King as well

What a lot of the classic Disney movies proved to me is that it's okay to plagiarize as long as you come up with something entertaining. That said, Disney needs to copy something which is more guy-ish rather than the countless princess stories if I'm to get interested.

As far as Disney movies go, The Princess and the Frog was pretty good. It has that Disney charm that we all grew up with and loved. Ron Clements and Jon Musker (directors of gems such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Great Mouse Detective) have shown that they have certainly haven't lost their touch after all these years (I believe the last Disney movie they did together was Treasure Planet, which didn't go too well). The animation was great, fluid and shows some great potential for future movies.

However, while the movie is strong as a Disney movie, its weak in many other aspects. The storyline is really just another princess movie, simple as that; if you want something more complicated, this movie doesn't deliver. I have heard some reviewers call this movie "the best movie since The Lion King". Yeah, I don't think so. This movie doesn't even touch the greatness of movies like The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast. It just doesn't. This movie may have had strong animation, but I wouldn't go so far as declare this film the "return of traditional animation" (kinda hard to declare a return of anything if not even the next movie, Tangled, is going to be done entirely in traditional animation).

While this is expected of Disney, the emphasis on the princess aspect of this movie is pushed again and again and again and I wouldn't be surprised if barely any males saw this movie (unless they were hardcore Disney fans or were dragged by their moms and girlfriends). Also, I think Disney pushed the "Black princess" thing a little too hard for what we got out of Tiana. We only see Tiana as a human during most of the first act and then she is a frog for the rest of the movie until the end.
    This is my war face.

This is what happens to trolls who mess with me.
