"I WANNA SEE THIS MOVIE!" my cousin told me... and I wasn't really all that surprised, it's pretty much the only kids movie out there. This was advertised to be in 3D before Avatar came out, it this wasn't the result of the now pending 3D craze we're going to see in the next 5+ years.

My thoughts?

So far the most pleasent surprise of 2010. I went in expecting a "lulz I farted!" kids film, but instead got a well made movie that kept me interested till the end. Also, the 3D was well done. Like Avatar, it didn't constantly remind you that it was in 3D, thus making the effect more of an effect and less of a gimmick. The movie can be easily enjoyed in 2D, but for the record I wasn't dissapointed I bought a ticket for 3D.

As for the plot, it was predictable, but what could you expect? It's a film for kids, it uses plots that are familiar. The characters are memorable and believeable, and the voice acting is good (Kept smirking each time Stoick spoke, as I always expect him to yell "THIS IS SPARTA!" as he's voiced by Gerard Butler).

As a kids film, it gets a 9/10

As an actual film, it gets a 7.5/10 (I was expecting a 4/10)

Wow, you rated it pretty high.
When I first saw this commercial, I thought it was silly... But when I actually looked into it, I decided that I really want to see it. Hopefully I can see it sometime next week.

It has a 97% approval rating in Rotten Tomatoes...

That's almost unheard of... even with the flawed "yes or no" mechanic Rotten Tomatoes runs on, that's too much of an impressive score to ignore.

Well if it passes with Rotten Tomatoes then I am going to take their word for it. I have not seen it, though I don't have any nephews or nieces near me right now I can't take them to go watch it. But no, I am not going to watch it by myself at the theaters. Maybe if this comes out in Apple TV or Netflix then I'd probably rent it out there.

I'm done with America and it's 3D movies. I can't stand it anymore. Is it so hard to get a decent 2D film? The reason I liked The Princess and The Frog was because it was a throwback to old Disney films when 2D was still in.

I normally respect people's opinions, but I just gotta add that disliking a film because of how it's animated is a pretty lame reason.

No it isn't. It's like saying not liking Cloverfield because of its cinematography is stupid. I simply refuse to watch something I know I'm not going to like.

If you don't watch it, then you'll never know. I was never a fan of Anime-style animation. Over the top-emotions and super-special awesome flashing lights never interested me. However, films like "Spirited Away" make it worthwhile for people like me.

I'm actually interested in 2D animation in general. It doesn't have to be anime. I fear watching Appleseed because of its bad CG clips, so that should give you a hint of how I feel about 3D cartoons.

I have no interest whatsoever in 3D movies, and if they become the norm, I will no longer go to the movies.

You just might miss out on some good movies though. Don't let the animation style be the one deciding factor telling you if a movie is good or bad.

I mean 3D with the glasses like they did with Avatar. I don't mind CGI. 3D with the glasses and all usually gives me a monster headache.

Now I can understand that.

I got plenty of friends who have vision trouble, and 3D more or less leaves them with a nasty headache. Also, I dislike 3D when it's a cheap gimmick... most 3D films have the need to constantly remind you it's in 3D.

Ex: "Hello there main character... how are you doi- ZOMG THIS STICK IS ALMOST TOUCHING YOUR FACE!!! THIS IS A 3D FILM!!!!"

Sadly, ever since Avatar utterly demolished the box office... we'll be seeing plenty more 3D films. For the sake of good movies, we must send a message that we're not an audience that swoon to gimmicks.

I do have to say that I enjoyed the movie, tho I didn't really expect to from the outset. I didn't see it in 3D. It was fun, and I am pleasantly surprised. Glad Dreamworks is putting out decent stuff finally.

True, but you can't say that the movie will suck just for its animation. It's the same as those oversized Avatar fans. They all say Avatar is superaweomse, just because of its animation. It's the same thing.
