Good god... Nomura is truely milking the hell out of this series isn't he? It feels like a corny anime series that doesn't want to end...In March 2010, Square Enix released the Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Ultimania, a companion guidebook for Birth by Sleep. Within which was an interview with series director, Tetsuya Nomura, who revealed that Kingdom Hearts III was in the conceptual stages. He also confirmed that two additional games in the Kingdom Hearts series are in development, he expects one to be released in 2010

Here, I got home and this is the article I read.
wut?“We added the Critical degree of difficulty, more cutscenes, more songs to the Rhythmic Ice Cream mini game
Right here guys:
http://www.*********.com/latest/3-ne...rts-games.html
THREE new KH games. Not just KH3 but 2 more.
If you continue to read, you'll find out that Nomura plans on expanding Kingdom Hearts past KH3 but still keeping Sora as the main character till the end and that KH3 will be like the end of the Xehanort saga.
I'm hyped up for this. I've been waiting since 2 for 3. Hoping Sora will eventually make his move on Kairi.
EDIT: Well, I guess that site can't be posted? it's Kingdom Hearts Insider. Just google it and on their home page you'll find the article.

As much as I absolutely love KH's plot, I'm beginning to feel like SE is milking it. Still though, it will be exciting to see what each game holds in terms of plot, especially after everything that happened in BBS.
^My piece of mediocrity
OMFG this is great news! thanks for the info guys!
I disagree. I don't feel Nomura is milking the hell out of Kingdom Hearts. In fact, it's one of the stronger franchises out there today. The series is only two main games deep and six games total (counting Coded). It's a strong series that isn't totally lame, and is something customers will buy. Just because Square Enix has withstanding franchises (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest) doesn't mean they milk them.
So long as Nomura keeps the series fresh (and fires the freaking writer) I'll be buying up Kingdom Hearts left and right. To hear of KH3 being developed has me really excited

He is
For some people, I in particular, was excited when I heard of the concept of Kingdom Hearts, but was dissapointed when I found out that it was just an expensive fanfiction.... also Nomura seems to have the idea that "Final Fantasy Characters" only means "Final Fantasy Characters that Nomura was the character designer for"... although it's probably for the best... the way he butchered Cloud and Sephiroth's personalities, I think my other favorite FF characters should remain untouched.
I present... the milk
The reason they're milking the series is because people will totally buy it. I'm not against this, people are more then welcome to like what they like, to each their own! However, they must realise that the series is being milked...
Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are horribly milked (as hinted in Gjallarhorn's post)... espectially FF VII (I feel bad for it). True FF VII fans disliked the prequels, sequels, films, and anime comix, because for them the game was strong enough on its own. No need flimsy extra content souly made for garanteed cash.
And you're more then welcome to support your favorite games! All the power to you! As long as you realise that these games now contain an excellent source of calcium ;3
Milking = Madden, FIFA, NBA Live, Call of Duty, Dragonball games.
If Kingdom Hearts is being milked, then Halo is really being milked. Or Call of Duty. Hell, you could even say Mario is being milked if you want to look at it that way. Having a successful series doesn't mean a company milks it (Oddly feel like I already said something like that).
I'm not out here to scream for new games in KH. If Nomura wanted to cancel all projects related to Kingdom Hearts, I'd be fine with it. I'd rather watch my favorite series die then be put to shame.
BurntHouse: Nomura doesn't completely write it. He only helps and supervises. There are a few who write actually. Granted, Nomura confirms everything for the game, but the writers do write some chessy stuff. Personal favorite being Roxas "Who will I eat ice cream with?" Dumb.

Definately agree there!
Yup, once again... totally agreed!
A series can be small, but at the same time successful. Star Wars only contained three films, but the series got plenty of success... until George Lucas milked it and made three prequels *sadface*
Game companies that only stick to familiar icons and attempt very little in coming up with new ideas are considered "milkers". Square Enix, Nintendo, Bungie... all guilty of milking their franchises.
I only enjoy sequels if they use the original game as a jumping point for entirely new story and not just something to cling to due to the success of the original. If it doesn't, then you know they just made the sequel for the money. Bioshock, even though the series only contains two games... I consider it milked since the second game really had no reason to exist at all except the company wanted easy money behind a familiar concept.
I like you more then most other KH fans, who go GAGA for anything with Riku or Sora's face on it.
Makes sense...
However, perhaps cheesy lines like those are due to the fact it was made in Japan, and slight adjustments in translation caused a few problems in how good the writing was. I was never a fan of Square Enix Dialogue... even when Sakaguchi was at the helm... except for this one phrase of cheesy mis-traslation
"YOU SPOONY BARD!"
Sometimes... it's so much fail that it turns into a win.

: P A good game, is a good game. That doesn't mean it's being milked. >.>
Mario has like a bunch of game's because it's just so much fun.
Halo is the same thing. What make's Kingdom Heart's any different?
@}}---;--'- A rose for my love.
I wouldn't say comapnies are afraid to try anything new. Nintendo gave Metroid to Retro Studios and look what happened. We got the awesome Prime series. Now they're giving the series to Tecmo with Another M.
SE tried other things, The Last Remnant, and they weren't that great. The established works better for some reason and it's not because of a name. Do you think that there aren't risks for producing any game? The sequel to KH is a lot different than KH 1. The combat was overhauled and the story started with a character nobody knew about. BIG risk.
New is hard to create. I don't think companies should depend on their franchises as much as they do, but wouldn't you be disappointed too if your new game that has nothing to do with your best series got an average review and below average sales?
"Thinking of you, where ever you are..."Sig by me
Nice example!
Nintendo took something that was familiar like "Metroid", but turned it into something "new" by turning a side-scrolling platforming adventure game, into a first person shooter adventure game. I enjoyed Metroid Prime, even the second one... got a bit redundant with the third... and now I'm wondering what's going on with Metroid Other M...
Kingdom Hearts is the same game, with the same mechanics. Very little is done to add anything new, but try make up for this by adding extremely odd mini-games and say "NEW CONTENT!" when there's nothing really substantially new at all.
That's their fault, just because it's new doesn't mean it's good. One time Squaresoft tried something different from their Final Fantasy route... came up with Chrono Trigger. I don't have to tell anyone how much of a good idea that was...
Actually, I think the name plays a big part in established works... I mean, why did Squaresoft start the Final Fantasy franchise if each game was different from the previous one? Because a recongised name from a previous success is able to sell more, that's why.
Of course there are risks. But so far the game companies think we're retards who react poorly to new ideas and want only remakes and sequels. Unfortunately, it seems they're mostly right.
The combat was very similar to the first game, with a few added moves here and there. To say "overhauled" would suggest going from "Attack/block" to "Ninja Gaiden battle controls", which isn't the case.
Also, they started with a new character, zomg! What a risk! I wonder how Final Fantasy VIII ever survived when Squall appeared instead of Cloud! Also note the new character was in the introduction, before playing the entire game as Good ol' happy go lucky Sora.
True, but remember that it's us who pay the money for their product. It'd be nice to know my money went towards a project that was difficult, but rewarding in the end... not just some game they whiped together in a 5 minute meeting.
True dat...
Well it severely depends. If their new game was bad, then it deserves to do poorly. If it's average, then no one should expect great sales... However, make an excellent game and surprise the hell out of people, then all their money are belong to us.

I don't think "milked" is the right word for Kingdom Hearts. "Milked" is for something tiring, bad, or too repetitive. Compare how many people buy and enjoy kingdom hearts to halo fans. Square Enix isn't "milking" KH, they're just trying to make money by adding to the series, in which the fans appreciate. If you can call Kingdom Hearts milked, can you call Final Fantasy milked? Can you call Halo milked? (besides, Kingdom Hearts has only had 5 or 6 games with a couple remakes) Can you call any game with a large series "milked"?
