Self Respect

Okay, I am just 13 but still, I am very much concerned about my self respect. Does that sound weird?

How do you guys define self respect?

I say, if I violate my own rules or if I ain't consistent with my own self, I don't posses any self respect..what do you think about this?

I define self-respect by adhering to my own set of values and morals, seeing as they are old-fashioned, it's not hard to set myself apart from the moral decadence that seems to be the contemporary hype.

In short, I just stick to the sentiments of the good ol' Gentry with a dash of elitism and a handful of righteous fury and intolerance.

i am my own god point of rules i never violate my rules and kneel myself down in front of anyone for no reason but there are sometimes and situation where we have to choose our self-respect to provide or of our beloved one's.

If you respect yourself then you wont disgrace yourself that for me is the most important thing.
If you respect your body you will not harm it and if you respect you mind then you wont fill it with harmful things.

I really don't know how to define self respect, I think it would be your morals, whether your living up to them or maybe it's just the way you treat yourself. I really don't think that you can define it with words, everyones self respect would be different, so it would be somthing like a feeling. I don't think i'm making any sense.

Here's my take on self respect.


I try to look at it from a 3rd person point of view. Detatch yourself from yourself just from a moment, then read.

You yourself are a person, and just like everyone else is entitiled to be treated with dignity and respect and kindness just like everyone else.

So to say/do bad things to one's self is not justified because we can see that you are the agressor to person who happends to be yourself. Yourself can't defend it's self from you, so it's technically completely helpless to any kind of psychological or physical harm you may inflict.

Thus, mistreating one's self, should be viewed in the same way as mistreating any other helpless person. The fact that you yourself are ownership of your self does not automatically grant you unlimited freedom to treat yourself poorly.



The punch line is basically this, you should just be nice to yourself because you wouldn't want you hurt your feelings. Because then yourself would be sad and cry and wonder why your being so mean to you. Just give yourself a big hug and tell you how much you love yourself and say you're sorry for being mean to you. Then yourself will be happy~ ^__^

I am very much the same. I don't make as much rules for myself though the ones I do I follow to the T. I do think I have self respect. And don't sweat man, the sooner you figure it out like you have the better of you'll be when you're older.

I define self respect by following my own set of morals, boundaries, and values. They're things that are a big piece of myself as a whole and as long as I stay true to those things/myself, I'll be good.

I find it hard to respect others who don't respect themselves, other people, or myself.

No, of course it isn`t weird. It`s a good thing to think about all through your life.

Self-respect can mean various things. In terms of physical health, you can take of yourself and respect your body - don`t mess it up through an excess of drugs, poor diet, or lack/excess of exercise. In terms of mental health, you can respect yourself by either challenging yourself or not stressing yourself. Emotional health can be a bit tricky because some people are more sensitive than others. Finding a way to balance your emotions can be a form of respect.

There`s other ways to get self respect, either through following through with your morals, giving yourself credit when its due, having good self-esteem, etc. It`s one of those broad terms that can defined various ways. I don`t think there`s one definition of it. I would be interested in how scientists define self-respect when they`re doing studies on it.

Bounding yourself by the social norm or values of your surroundings. I find that maybe 5/10 women have self respect anymore. I've become so surprised at the amount of women talking about sex as a game more than men do nowadays.
