The people who like subs never give reasons. They are just prejudice against it. I watch both. Just today, I watched an anime with a bad dub and switched to the Japanese version. But I usually watch dubs.
For instance, I watch Code Geass subbed and can't watch the dub because the Japanese voices fit the characters better.
However, I watch Gundam 00 both ways and still prefer the dub.
But in all honesty, I've noticed that if I watch it subbed first, I'll hate the dub.
I honestly think that most people who hate dubs have never seen a good one. They think of Naruto and think that's how they all are...
Sorry for the long post....
it depends on the anime IMO. some animes especially where the setting and names are western will fit better in English while others would sound good in Japanese. its just a matter of preferences and suitability i guess
1st post in this forum xD
There are some anime that I like with English dub and some rather in Japanese. Like Death Note is much better in Japanese. Their voices evoke the excitement and suspense that is happening in their world.
However, Full Metal Alchemist is much better in English. Vic Mignona makes Edward Elric be what the fan girls always wanted in a boy, even if the voice actor is not as good looking as Edward. Same goes for Tamaki of Ouran High School. I like the English voice better. It's all in how you see the characters as being.
I therefore conclude, I can not decide between the original and dub.
I don't really have anything against dubs, I just don't like them as much as subs. 90% of the time I'll take sub>dub. And the only dubs I like (with the exception of a few shows) are the ones I grew up with, therefore, was used to hearing. Such as Yu Yu Hakusho or Bobobo, I actually didn't like Hakusho's sub that much. But out of the 30 or so shows I've seen, I only like about 3 dubbed.
But when I don't like the dub...I don't like the dub. Especially in shonen shows where the characters that do the most talking are little girs. No idea why, but Japanese people can do cutesy voices better than us Americans.
Oh yeah, and anything 4KIDS dubs is bad.

After more research it was determined that 2012 was the end of twinkies.
The original Japanese. Because the Americans think that because the girls sound cute in japanese with their high voices, they try to imitate it. It just comes out sounding like mickey mouse on crack...
THey also lose the true nature of the character. Like when mean, angry characters have a harsh voice. Here in America, that mean, angry character comes out sounding like a corporate C.E.O. Lifeless and robotic
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway \(^o^)/
Some English dubs are better, some Japanese dubs are better.
"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
I prefer dubs when they're good, subs when the dubs are bad. That's pretty much it. There are cases where I can't tolerate the Japanese voices though. The only instance I can recall is Dragonball Z and Kai, but I'm sure there are others.
If the dubbing is good, it's simply easier to watch without having to read what's being said. Fullmetal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell have excellent dubbing, so I prefer them that way. I'm watching Brotherhood with subs though since that's how they're provided on the Funimation website.
Of course, I voted 'other'. ;P

Well as you can see from my signature... XD
Dubbed and Subbed anime both has certain aesthetic features to it. Dubbed anime has also improved a lot has more and more voice actors take on anime jobs and actually care about there work now that its become popular.
The viewing experience changes. I would give subs the benefit that by hearing it in the original language you can better experience the original voice actors emotional intentions in each scene. This isn't true though. When reading the subtitles your mind usually just blanks out the voices anyway. With dubs your at least able to give your full attention to the animation itself.
So I prefer dubs. I get a little irritated, and I hope I don't offend anyone, but when I hear people trashing our hard working English voice actors. Its not that they question the quality, its that it seems to often stem from nothing more than an obsession with keeping to Japanese-ness. But its a failed effort because if your reading English subtitles you HAVE NOT offered yourself a better translation, they are usually just as flawed.
If I had to pick a best way to watch anime, it would be to learn Japanese, and watch it in its original language with no distracting subtitles.
Short of that, English voice dubs are the best way to reduce distraction and appreciate the art and drama. As for the quality of dubs, I judge this on a case by case basis rather than an overall evaluation. Some voice actors are better than others. Some regular actors are better than others too.
Really its a personal choice at the end of the day. I wish people weren't so aggressive about this issue since when you buy a dvd you can typically chose the way you want to watch it anyway. But while it may seem lots of people may hate dubs, this must be a loose statistic, because they just keep on making them. And I, at least, am glad they do.
Life has no subtitles. Support your English voice actors.
I take the Zac Bertschy approach: if it's a show about Japanese people (i.e. Death Note, Paranoia Agent) I will watch it in Japanese. If it's a show about the West, space, etc. (Cowboy Bebop, Irresponsible Captain Tylor), I will watch it dubbed.

I hate dubs. I mean, the american voice actors make the anime seem so childish and stupid.
"I didn't come here so that we could paint each other's toenails like it was some kind of slumber party, I came here to kick your a*s!"
Yes, some dubs are, believe it or not, better than the originals, imo.
