Default I've noticed what this time's favorite book genre is!

I've noticed what this time's book genre is: Romance, dang it!

How did I find this out? Most of the people I’ve seen IRL or looked on the Internet are reading Romance.

Like now Nicholas Sparks is going up in popularity,Twilight, more girls in the library...reading.

I miss the time of Mystery .

Are you sure it's people in general, and not just people around you that have changed. More specifically, are you sure people your age aren't reading romance books because they've grown older and found new interests?

The bones and structure of a good detective story are so old and well known that it may seem banal to state them even in outline. A policeman, stupid but sweet-tempered, and always weakly erring on the side of mercy, walks along the street; and in the course of his ordinary business finds a man in Bulgarian uniform killed with an Australian boomerang in a Brompton milk-shop. Having set free all the most suspicious persons in the story, he then appeals to the bull-dog professional detective, who appeals to the hawk-like amateur detective. The latter finds near the corpse a boot-lace, a button-boot, a French newspaper, and a return ticket from the Hebrides; and so, relentlessly, link by link, brings the crime home to the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I personally prefer either grand epics or stories whose sole, expressed purpose is to make a claim by way of fictional illustration.

I miss the time of Stephan King 80s horror. I mean the guy is still putting out books, and I`ll always read them, but I can`t deny his writing was more twisted in the late 80s, you know, when he was a coke head and an alcoholic. Not that it would be good for him to adopt those habits again, but a drug influenced mind can be interesting one.

I hate books and reading and genres and everything. "Romance" is a million miles away from what I'd describe as reading.

I personally think romance is growing in popularity is because of the fact that it is one of the realest type of stories with the most real life application. It also tends to get people hooked because of the ever lasting what next idea. When a person reads that type of story they often always wonder, what next. That is why I think more people are getting into them.

Romance is such a boring genre,98% of the time the characters suck, also the plot is just god awful. From what I see they come together then something major happens and they split up,and eventually come together.Another is when they are both in denial. Also, when the person has been away for a long time, then comes back for love.

No, I don't think so. I think the current book genre is vampiric and demonic, but not just because of Twilight. There was already a growing frenzy with vampires and werewolves before Twilight became main-stream. Romance has ALWAYS been popular.

I haven't seen much people reading until now,and most of them are Romantic books.

Before Twilight, and before Sparks;People hated the genre, and very few people read it from what knowledge I based it off of.

It probably has more to do with reading in general becoming more popular; which increases popluarity among all genres.

personally, I prefer non-fiction books myself mostly because I'm more of a visual person when it comes to my selection of entertainment. I have no problems with romance, so long as it's not the soul plot of the story. It's a lot more interesting when there is a larger- muti-demesional plot to everthing.

I am glad to see that more people are reading these days though.
