So, news has broken that Gene Simmons' son, Nick Simmons has plagiarised images from Bleach in his comic Incarnate.

To me, it's quite clear that he has plagiarised. I'm not very familiar with Hellsing so, not sure what he's lifted from there.

What a dick move. I mean, I would be praising him if he had copied Dragonball, but he had to pick the worst manga in Shounen Jump to copy. Haven't the otaku's been put through enough? The man should be killed.

It's all speculation. Tite Kubo has some of the ugliest characters so Nick Simmons should be arrested for copying terrible artwork.

There is a certain percentage, I want to say something like 35%, that must be original, in order to get away with it. This only applies to the USA, and the percentage may be incorrect. This is allegedly how those airbrush artists and street vendors get away with selling their wares - it's obviously a character, but a percentage of it is different, even if it's just the style the artist works in.

I recall from my graphic arts classes that you must modify the art by at least 30% in order to get away with it.

There are also free use rules for journalism and such, but that wouldn't apply in this case...

Anyway, I don't get why Simmons would copy Bleach anyway... c'mon now... as others have said, there are much better character designs elsewhere.

What kinda pisses me off is that you know his crappy comic got reamed through a publisher because the kid has a famous family name and all the money in the world but no talent...

No idea. Although if you look at the example of the Kenpachi ripoff, it's probably legal on that basis - due to the costume alone.

So if Nick Simmons did T-shirts, he'd be in trouble? If so then it makes sense that he would get sued.
