Where did we go wrong?

Ever wonder how humanity has the poteinal to do amazing things, but we put limits on ourselves? I'm probably just stating the obvious, but man it's just been bugging me lately. We could do so much better than how we're doing now. Maybe if we would lend a hand rather than try to screw each other over the world would be a better place. You don't even have to do that, you could just stay out other people's way. Don't get invovled in someone's life unless it's positve. There's enough room on this planet. What's your opinion?

The problem is that there are a lot of people in this world that are short sighted of that fact. Most of them can't comphrend that if you do good, along with everyone else, basically everything you, me, and everyone in this world has to complain about will disovle.

Unforutnately, that can ONLY happen with the collective whole of all of us. Which makes the task seem so daunting and in the narrow minded view of it-
ultimately frivolous.

It's sad. but it's going to be a lot longer, even as far as we have come, to chaning the minds of people that simpley don't get it.

I agree for sure on this. Lots of people in the world just don't know when enough is enough. That think is yet another reason we're in the trouble we are in now with the planet.

No there's not enough room for all of us, or at lest there's not going to be anymore. Before you try to do any "good", think who's back you'll have to tread on to effectuate it. And ask yourself how much of use will the goods you bring be to the collective?

I believe the same good and the same bad has existed for centuries. Over all, our world is actually far more civilized than it use to be.


If you're someone who really wants to do good and make a difference than just keep doing what you're doing. Don't be the guy that does something because "everyone else does it." It's hard to come by people who aren't selfish and keep the common good in their interest as they go about their lives. The few people who do are the ones who make this place livable.

This is why I'm so into politics and government. While I understand that law and governmet will always be flawed to some degree, it gives society stable ground to stand on.

If you want to fix a massive problem, it has to be done through both a top-down AND a bottom-up approach. I have always believed that there is a perfect system, and it can be reached. One that does not satisify the needs of few, or the needs of many, but the needs of ALL. Not that I'm just chashing rainbows, but if all of humanity can put together it's effort for as long as hard as it can, someday, just maybe someday, we'll see it come to be.

It has always been the same! You can never have the Yin without the Yang! and im not being funny, but im also stating the obvious....its all down to the MEDIA, the news, internet, magazines, everything is caos and what we have to put up with, i feel sorry for people who are vunerable in this world, and children are born into society today!! I have always believed that there is a perfect system, and it can be reached. One that does not satisify the needs of few, or the needs of many, but the needs of ALL.

Maybe, if you overlook the human factor. Let's face it: you make a group of 100 people and there will always be this one idiot who will start some nonsense and 10 more idiots who will follow him. Humans are, for all intents and purposes, idiots, and even if they weren't, they would have different needs, beliefs and whatnot, so what could be satisfying to someone may be unacceptable to someone else.

And about the whole "be the change you wish to see in the world" thing, I do believe in it, but I also think that you guys are overrating its value and the world's overall "good" guys vs "bad" guys (vs just-don't-give-a-crap guys) ratio.

It is a fools hope and ideal to believe we could help everyone and make everyone happy. But it is one that i have as well ^^

Truth is, the nature of mankind is mercurial fueled most of all by ambition and greed. War will continue to exist with man. Racism and discrimination and all that hate will still be shared by many. Anyone who has obtained power enough to affect a large group of people most definitely possess hedonistic values and to maintain that power, he must still have those values for power is a fragile thing; especially when you're into politics ^^ How then, could you have enough wit, guile and cunning to take the seat of power if there are many who covet it as well and oppose you?

Just as there is no such thing as altruism for it all do it to gain something whether it is feeling good about ourselves, or building a good reputation.
I have learned that weak and nice people often get trampled and stepped on by those hedonists or sadistic people. I would like to pay them back but that would accomplish nothing.

My belief is that to have power to change or help people, you have to be either extremely rich like donald trump and bill gates, a politician like Henry Kissinger or Obama or a popular artiste like George Clooney or Michael Jackson. I don't want to take the risk of starting a business, i dont want to be a lying politician. I'd rather rely on my own talents and creativity to touch people's hearts with my work. And what's most important is my family and loved ones that are taken care of first and foremost. Not other strangers.
Because how can you take care of others when your own blood or the people close to your heart is neglected by you.

Once i have the power to help, i will graciously help many. But now, i will start with my loved ones and one that i belief truly needs my help. Doesn't everyone need a little bit of empathy to know how others feel so that they may feel the need to help? I hope everyone will think before they act badly towards another or ridicule someone. We could all start by having a strong conviction and good values of helping one who needs out help. Just one a day will do, just like just one starfish at a time.

Im not saying im right or wrong, Im just doing what I feel is right in this world. I understand that this world will never be rid of "evil". We all have the same dark intentions and desires, it's our morals and will that keep our "evil" at bay. But if we could put away all of our pittiful ideals, agree to disagree and work on fixing up what we destroyed by our misguided minds, we'd be off to a good start. If you want people to listen and follow you have to lead by example. That's why I live my life helping everyone in every way at my own expence. It's foolish, but it makes me happy.

All of you made exellent points, it only proves that we all are thinking of the same thing. Needless to say but we're all on the same boat, like it or not, so seek to understand like you seek to be understood.. in other words empathy is a virtue.

As long as you can become stronger/have more power/more value/goods than someone else by doing him or his in, and/or run the risk of him doing it to you/yours, there will never be any feasible ground to go all altruistic on the world.

It's easy to feel giving on a full stomach, but once you've got food for about half your family, you don't really care if the UN's relief efforts are screwing up an African country's infrastructure with our moral blood money.

So unless you go all Star Trek and make power/money meaningless for one's own growth, you'd be at best able to install your Utopia through superior force, but I guess most moral twats these days think one can only achieve utopia through democracy or communism, making that path about as evul as any.

So on the topic of where we went wrong, we never did. Your moral and value system just phased out of reality, making this thread something like "Why can't we have unicorns like they do in fairy tales?"

While I agree with you, I believe there is almost no way to save humanity. People are cruel by nature. Almost everything people do is to make themselves happy. Even people who do good deeds are just trying to make themselves feel good. I think that we are more civilized but less united. The only way to create true unity is through rule. For everyone to have the same ruler. However, my morals say this is wrong. Humans are destined to fight each other. It's been that way since the dawn of time, and it will always be that way.
I try to understand others, but I've been betrayed every time. I suppose those who are understanding and caring will always be stepped on. That's why people are cruel and rude. Because everyone is afraid of getting hurt themselves.
It's a cruel reality that people have been trying to change forever, but most likely never will.

Sure these ideals are unrealistic, but a great idea from the start. Even though it may never happen, it is something I hope for. If anything, hoping is all we have left to do. And I give even at a selfless gain. Oh and Zedekia, I have no power what so ever to aid people out of reach. I was blessed and lucky to be born somewhere with enough economic prosperity. I'm not saying Im a better person, or anything like that, but I am a understanding person.

As much as it would be nice to just have everyone get along, people are all different. There are places without the freedoms I am fortunate enough to live with. But we've just got to "be the change we want to see in the world." But not everyone will agree with you, and if you speak out someone somewhere is bound to disagree.
