Awesome Mecha-Anime with seamless 3D space battle animation and genuine character relationships and development, plus all the humor of any token slice of life anime!
The story takes place after Earth's apocalypse, but men have thrived on a planet at the opposite end of the galaxy from women and their planet. In fact, men claim women used to eat men in their grim, co-ed past. So we follow our lower-class hero along with his fellow male companions, a doctor and a pilot, living alongside the close company of female pirates throughout the two seasons, during which a common enemy approaches.
Like Outlaw Star with its central group of characters going through space experiencing different planets, with a fluent back story!
It's only 2 seasons, it's awesome!

This is one of the most enjoyable animes that I have had the pleasure of watching. The story is good and flows nicely. There is alot of good comedy as well as drama. There is plenty of action to be had in the battles as well! Hibiki plays off well against the other characters and the relationship development is smooth and natural. They used alot of computer generated graphics for the mecha and ships. The intro and ending credits are outstanding (until the second season). Overall it is well worth watching! Hope you enjoy it!

I always thought Misty was hot...then again she was voiced by Lia Sargent who also voiced Shion Uzuki of Xenosaga. Totally hot chick with glasses.

I knew she sounded familiar. Haven't played a Xenosaga game in years! I also found it interesting how Dita and Misty's design are kinda similar. Dita having the blue eyes and red hair and Misty having the blue hair and red eyes, and they are both in love with Hibiki.

I noticed it, like they (Misty and Dita) were polar opposites of each other, but both attracted to Hibiki...yet repelling each other just the same. Like the same side of 2 magnets repel each other, while the opposite side will attract. In this Hibiki was the "Universal magnet" that was to pull all the other Terrans together to make a stand. A proverbial Nexus.

And Xenosaga was awesome. Just wish I hadn't lost my Xenogears game.

Agreed. I honestly wouldnt mind seeing a 3rd season of Vandread or some silly spin-off in the future. Do you happen to know any other animes that is familiar to this series?

A pick up option of a 3rd installment would be stellar. I was sad when they ended it, at such a pivotable time, and was hoping to see a battle with Earth. I mean, wasn't there a recording when they rescued Misty, that showed THOUSANDS of those "sea cucumber" like ships being sent forth from Earth? Plus, the relationship between Hibiki and Dita...what happened, when they got to Turak?? Did they get married, being the first "Male/Female" to have a natural love?

You can try Love Hina, it has the same "harem" theme but is not Sci-fi. Outlaw Star is good. Godannar is good, though a little more "fan service".

FMP rocked, you can also try "Ranma 1/2", "Urusei Yatsura (older title hard to find)" both by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha) fame. Plus, Negima and Love Hina by Ken Akumatsu. Baka and Test. All these are the same theme, but completely different in story, and humor.

I think my fav character is Bart, a real con artist that conned his way into being the ships pilot. I also enjoyed the comedy between Dita and Hideki as well as everybody, well done indeed. The only thing that freaked me out was the hot chick turned out to be a dude. Dont kids watch these things too? As usual, the japs cooked up a good story here thats for sure.

Yeah that Buzam reveal was a bit of a shocker. But you had to figure something was up when she was the only one that could read Turak. Lol Glad you liked it, and it was probably one of the most unique stories with the whole male role separated from the females.

I Like This Anime as well.Great Story Line and the characters are very cheerful.
