'Two wrongs doesn't make a right' has relevance. If someone does something wrong, and you do something wrong back; you've both done something wrong, and you have become a wrong-doer yourself.

In what way does striking them back undo the fact that they struck you? Furthermore, what do you get out of striking them back? Returning in kind out of vengeance only makes you predictable and easy to manipulate.

Also, not one of a kind. I can find records of at least one other person who did the same. Some cat named Jesus back in the day. Said a lot of stuff that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and had a cult of personality that said even stranger things; but the part about turning the other cheek is quite solid.

Here's the point: you take revenge to make damn sure nobody else will do anything to make you do it to them and while you're doing something, you might as well learn to enjoy it. So yes, I savor it to the point of sexual arousal and people not only fear me, but even hide the kids from me, believing it's only a matter of time before I become the first serial killer in my country.

I never really saw revenge as anything great. Only a mean that satisfies selfish desire to be even when in the end, you really have become the thing that did the "bad thing" to you. Revenge only keeps the cycle of bad acts in motion.

You may be angry at someone for wronging you, but really it makes you no better. I can't say I haven't been tempted by other means of revenge, but usually, I just wait for them to get what's coming to them -- and it isn't by my own hand, but their own actions.

I agree with Eris. The world is such a messed up place to be right now and one of the main issues is the inability to JUST LET IT GO. Revenge is Selfish.
I've had my share of "revenge" and you know, nothing REALLY good ever came out of it except my short-lived satisfaction. I've ruined people's lives. Now I wish I hadn't. So many hidden variables, so many factors in another person's life that you JUST ARE NOT AWARE of, and never will be.
What if your actions caused another person so much emotional damage that they felt they could no longer face their own reflection and took their own life? Would you still feel bittersweet?

Well...it kinda would or at least it would for me....because im pretty sure they would celebrate had the shoe been on thee other foot!

I'd organize a party with a big banner saying "GOODBYE, (his/her name goes here)". We'd joyfully burn all of that person's photos and pieces of personal information that I own (and have used to ruin his/her life), and exactly at midnight, I would use my special titanium sword to add one more stripe to the wall above my bed.
Also possibly commit a ritualistic slaughter of one of the unsuspecting party attendants, but hey! We're partying!

No, I've never gotten revenge on anyone. To me, it depends on the situation, and if that person did something wrong, you should right the situation. If someone does hit you, try and be the better person and stay cool. Unless you want a never ending war and people hurt. Now, if that person put you in a "situation," then by all means do something about it. You're not proving you're the bigger man or the better girl by getting revenge on someone, save that for the movies. Besides, everyone gets what they deserve...trust me o_o

When I think of revenge, I think of someone taking it a step higher. Let's say someone insulted your mother about her proportions. Your retort would probably be to punch them in the arm or something to that effect, whereas I would simply reply with a mother joke as well.

So in a way I suppose it is similar, but not exactly the same. After I read The Count of Monte Cristo, I sorta found it to be pointlessly stupid to "plot" revenge.

i was taught to punch back when hit. does that mean i seek revenge for every wrong given to me? no, but there are exceptions. like my father leaving my mother and not caring once about my sister and my mom. i seek revenge against my father, though i've never really thought too hard about it.
