Default The PS3 now has a Motion Controller, too

    Article: here

The fact that it looks almost exactly like Nintendo's 'Wii-mote' controller doesn't seem too original (it's pretty much the wii controller with a black casing and blue buttons), but I don't know, I suppose they're running out of ideas at this point.

Edit: well, the article says it's a prototype, but still.

They demonstated it at E3 over the summer. It looked a lot more promising that the Wii's very limited motion control, and I think it could be a great addition for swordplay in games. I like that they made the motion detecting planar sensitive rather than point sensitive.

My problem is that Sony products are always so... laminated.

The Wiimotes get chucked at the screen at an alarming rate, can you imagine if they were as smooth and polished as that thing looks?

I like how funny this is. People were criticizing Nintendo for relying on gimmicks to sell games, and here another system has gone that route. Really, graphics can't get much better these days, people are going to have to step things up with new features like motion control and touch screens to continue to sell games and systems.

Back, by popular demand! Now with new avy.

I don't know why but it sounds kind of lame in my opinion. How do they know that it will feel comfortable to play games on it?

Just as long as they do something like they did with Dragon Warrior: Swords for the wii, where you can slash at the screen to slash in the game. I don't think most genre of games would be great to play with that controller; it seems hard to use.

I saw this at the E3 thing on like Pulse I think a few months ago but its good to see since the PS3 has got the potential to have very good motion control games I can imagine Microsoft will develop something like this for their consoles in the future which will force Nintendo to release a better console next time. since all it really had over the competition was the motion control(which didn't work originally).
Plus the six axis was always going to waste in my opinion on stupid stuff like shuffling it around a few times in a whole game.
Though it was a very smart thing from Nintendo since "gimmicks" may not go down to well with "hardcore" gamers the Wii was aimed at the neutral market so hopefully PS3 can attract a few more customers.

out of all the motion tech this gen (wii-mote, natal) the ps3 wand interests me the most. Of course i wont give a crap unless some really good games come out for it (they've already announced support for Resident Evil 5)

We'll see whether it helps extend this generation or ends up being a bust.

360 motion looks like really advanced eye toy tachnology only put to better use but yeah they will both fail considering the expense it will take to make games for these products and the little return from the sales especially when Wii has been out for like 3-4 years and it only has a handful of good games well more like 2 good games and still manages to steal all the customers.

    Here's a fun fact.
Sega had the first motion senstive controller.
Followed by the Eye Toy and the Parapara Pad controllers from Sony.
Followed by Nintendo with the Wiimote.

You know, the "Power Glove"? That thing reeked of bull excrements and crap.

This is old news, it has been announced from quite some-time now, it just still all a hush-hush, but still I'm still skeptical about all motion things, even Project Natal.

It's either the 3D Motion sensing, or the 3D Visual Monitoring, I'm skeptical on all of them, if I have a free hands-on demo, then I may re-think on what I posted.

That looks like they were trying to rip off the Wiimote, I won't be surprised to hear about a lawsuit in the near future.

In my opinion it's better to rely on making a system that's continually improving in power (even if only incrementally) and force games designers to stop fannying around trying to pander to the gimmicks you attach to your console, but instead make games that are actually good. Games that maybe have more than one of the following: plot, gameplay, graphics, intelligence.

It's like parts of the industry has forgotten that games are supposed to be entertainment in themselves. Playing a game is entertaining, I don't need to be jumping around my living room to be entertained, you know?

That all came out quite aggravated, but I'm peeved at the industry and not anybody on this forum.

You know, the "Power Glove"? That thing reeked of bull excrements and crap.
Has anyone heard of the angry video game nerd? I love his videos. Its entertaining and very insightful.
AVGN is the master of internet comedy in my opinion. Consistent but not overly repetitive, and like you say genuinely helpful consumer advice (mostly in hindsight, but still). I love his vids!

I'm not sure if this view is shared, but I cannot wait for Nintendo to bring back the classic controller with their next console.

Don't get me wrong, I love innovation (after all, the gaming industry is pretty much made off of if) but the novelty of the Wii-mote got boring after a while because it didn't fit my skills. Perhaps someone who hasn't played games before would have enjoyed it, but for someone like me, I need a little more... substance. Not to say the Wii doesn't have core games (because that would be a TOTAL lie) but there does seem to be something missing that always has me running back to my other consoles.

I do like how Nintendo extended the demographic of people who play video games, that's in the interest of everyone. Though, sometimes it does worry me that core gamers will become the minority until more of these new casual gamers become core.

    Copy the leader, as usual.
