Weirdest anime ever watched?

Have you ever sat down and watched an anime and thought it was weird in some way or another?

I seen this one that was on cartoon network a long time ago and it was about some hamsters or something. I forget the name but it was weird.

Yeah, thats it! It wasn't really all that wierd. It just never cought my attention that good.

Texhnoylze's first few episodes were beyond weird, but it's gotten more normal since, though I'm still working on it (up to episode 9), so maybe the weirdness comes back.

Pani Poni Dash would be the weirdest for me, with truckloads and truckloads of obscure cultural references everywhere in the show (thank god the ADV singles had Vid-notes to explain everything), and just totally random moments that are both bizarre and hilarious (especially with Ichijou and the cat/"God").

Betterman could get pretty bizarre a lot of the time.

I honestly never found Evangelion, Paranoia Agent, or FLCL to be confusing, but I guess they can be a bit weird. I've bought Lain, just haven't watched it yet, so we'll se how I react to that one.

Lucky Star, it's so random! And most of the time it doesn't really make sense. But I love it for that reason.

Well, anime like Lucky Star, Hayate, Gintama, Zetsubou Sensei, Pani Poni Dash and etc are probably considered the most random because at their core they're parody anime. If you don't understand exactly what they are doing a parody of, it's going to look really random, when they are actually thought out ideas with actual depth. Not REALLY crazy in-depth stuff that matters, but there's depth in the junk they're talking about. I mean, Lucky Star going into depth about MMORPGs, the 3 inches of skin between the top of a girl's stockings and the bottom of her skirt or the definition of "tsundere" was pretty crazy in itself imo.

I mean, a conversation between you and your friends is going to sound really random to an outsider if s/he doesn't know what you're talking about.

And as for random to me? Mmmm... maybe Cat Soup? I only ever watched bits and pieces of it, but from what I've seen it made no sense to me whatsoever.

I'm beyond flabbergasted...I'm the first person to say Bobobo Bobo Bobo...EASILY the wierdest anime I've ever seen, MUCH more so than FLCL, Azu Manga Daioh, and even Lucky Star.

Even though you said anime, I'm just gonna go and say Guru Guru Pon Chan was the WEIRDEST manga I've ever read and if it were made into an anime it would easily be the weirdest anime in my opinion sheerly for the concept.

Its an almost children's manga about a guy who falls in love with a dog who turns into a girl when the she kisses a magic dog bone. The bestiality vibe just creeps me out.

Well I would have to say for me it is a draw between Bo bo bo bo (how ever you say the rest) and Zatch Bell. The one Bo bo anime is just plain well yah I can't even think of words to explain it. And Zatch Bell is werid because it is just kinda crasy. I think the concept is okay but the plot and character development is very hard if not next to impossible to follow.

yea, i forgot about bobobo. but then again i only watched like 3 episodes.

abt flcl, on the surface its weird, but once you realise that everything has double and even triple meanings at times and the whole seires in one big metaphor, it makes a little more sense. just a little tho haha.

Kuchu Buranko comes to mind, in terms of recent anime. The animation style is a combination of traditional limited animation as used in anime, live action, and rotoscope. The visuals are very trippy, with lots of bright colors in high contrast, and a very distinctive art style. The story kinda-sorta makes sense, and after watching an episode you will get its point...but it's also very hard to follow. Not "this is confusing" hard to follow, but "holy crap, I am tripping balls" hard to follow.

Obvious hats-off to Excel Saga, though.


As for anyone who said FLCL(fooly cooly, furi kuri, whatever you want to call it), shame on you. FLCL makes perfect sense. It's a coming of age story about a boy discovering he has a...well...yeah...one of those, and it's told using as many phallic metaphors and as much phallic imagery as possible.

Personally I don't think FLCL was actually all that weird. Not after I've seen worse. There was this one anime where these guys were all delinquents. I saw it at a friends house so I don't recall the name. I kinda don't want to either.
