Its gotta be the Internet in my case. From AF to Youtube and everything in between. I suppose the whole recession thingy sticks out in my mind. As does secondary school and that whole teen period.

I will remember this decade as the one where the internet double in power each year. Thinking back, I remember in 2000 most people had dial-up, and the internet as a whole was far more a luxury than it is now.

I'm sad no one mentioned Kanye West. You know how Nostradamus predicted the coming of the King of Terror was supposed to be some Mongolian ruler in 1999? He sorta messed up. He meant an African American pop mogul who would release some music and take over around 2009, not 1999.

There's plenty to remember, both good and bad memories. Most of what I posted is what will stand out to me.

-Janet Jackson's boob during Super Bowl XXXVIII (I remembered the game but I couldn't tell you which teams were playing)
-Needless Disney sequels (Mulan II, Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, Cinderella III, Bambi II, Fox and the Hound II, Tarzan II, etc)
-Running on the Daytona International Speedway (all 2.5 miles of it) with my AFROTC detachment
(Of course, I am one of those people who believes that 2010 is the last year of a decade, not the end of one)

- Obama elected as first black president (The guy gives a decent speech, but still hasn't backed it up to what people have expected.)

- Breaking my 5,000+ goal on my iPod. (Aiming for well over 10,000 within the next decade .)

Re: Epidemic Flu: That's not new either, and we haven't had a real, true epidemic in quite a while. It's just people in groups being led to panic by sloppy, sensationalist reporting. Heck, it was even the same "Swine flu? Oh noes!!" crap in the seventies.
Re: Apocalyptic Visions: There have always been "THE END IS NEAR!" types, but most media were too classy (or at least liked to think they were too classy) to indulge the lunatics until recently.
You can go back to the 1850s and find people who sold all their stuff and stood together in fields awaiting Armageddon, only to be sorely disappointed, and when the plague swept across Europe it was similar. People just like to panic and divine dates.
@Wio: For some reason, the calendar we almost all use counts from zero for years, so it's 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 instead of 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0 like I was taught (and maybe others).
It's because, way back when, they decided to start the AD years at zero instead of at one, so 0 AD (or 0 CE, for you PC/pretentious types) is the first year, and consequently 1 AD is the second year.
Re: 9/11: I have the feeling the attack itself won't be so historically important as our reaction to it and how that slowly reshapes our society. The 3000 dead- and I don't mean to be callous or offensive- frankly, won't matter to history so much as the response it provoked.
I would think that stance is abundantly evident, but a lot of people still don't seem to agree.
Really, most of this decade is unremarkably similar to any other given period in human history.
Also very unremarkable, we've invented few brand new technologies in this decade, instead refining old ones.
But, what do I honestly remember? Janet Jackson at the Superbowl, as dumb a thing as that is to remember. Again, though, the actual baring isn't what I remember, because it wasn't much to talk about, but I remember how many people got their panties into a bunch and wouldn't shut up about it for months.
