Default Anime/Manga That Defined This Decade

Title pretty much says it all, from the year 2000 up to 2009, what are the ones that people will be bickering about, for better or worse, in the coming years? Yes, I'm talking about the shows and series that will go down in the annals of the industry.

Of course opinions may vary, what made an impact in the US may or may not have made an impact in let's say Argentina, Philippines, Iraq, or even Japan. But please, have some factually sound basis for your opinions. You just can't mention something out of nowhere. Remember, your favorite anime doesn't necessarily mean it's definitive.

And of course, we're all free to mention a series here, for BETTER or WORSE. I guess that means anyone could say something like "Bleach is a defining anime, people will remember it for being utterly pathetic", so do not whine when somebody mentions your show with a negative note.

    Okay here's a few:

TTGL - Perhaps one of the most definitve mecha titles of this decade to grace our screens. Best remembered for its over-the-top testosterone-fueled action and the largest mecha ever.

Monster - Meticulously done, Monster is a critical favorite. Though it may not have that much popularity (as compared to some other titles like Naruto or FMA) to boast, it's a widely considered masterpiece.

Naruto - Love it or hate it, it amassed a great deal of fans, brought a newfound popularity and definition to the word "ninja", and made people more critical towards fillers.

P.S. but of course, in some cases, some titles may not be definitive right now but would likely to create more impact in the future.

    Anime:

Naruto - Say what you will about it, but you can't deny its popularity of sales figures.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Gundam redefined mecha back in the day, and thereafter, everyone-and-their-mother were trying to be Gundam. Then Evangelion came around, and everyone-and-their-mother tried to be Evangelion (lolrahxephon). TTGL broke this yet mode, giving us a crazy over-the-top mecha series of absurd proportions.

Code Geass - Code Geass gave us the fusion of current anime topics (highschool-esque drama, etc) and more classic mecha themes. Essentially, it succeeded in doing what Gundam Seed (and Destiny) tried and failed to do.

K-ON! - Hugely popular, set sales records, etc. It undoubtedly is definitive of the fact that moe is now a genre. That being said, the moe boom is the death of anime.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi - I don't even think this needs explaining. Age of the Otaku, flash-mobs dancing in streets, etc.

    Manga:

    Naruto - See above.

    Bleach - See Naruto.

One Piece - Arguably the best adventure manga currently in serialization, perhaps of all time. Popular across all demographics and both genders. For over a decade, Dragonball defined what shounen adventure manga was, and everyone was trying to replicate that. One Piece, in its beginning, was one such manga. But since, it has developed into something much, much greater, while at the same time pointing out that shounen manga doesn't have to be battle manga like the other two of the "big three" (Naruto, Bleach).

While there's other I'd like to cite for being better that the above anime and manga (sans One Piece, because...well...it's One Piece...), I think those are definitely the "definitives"

"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
