Okay, I am not talking about something that has just been dubbed, but something modified to the point where it doesn't even resemble the anime.
Like Naruto and "believe it," at that point it is a kids cartoon.

...Honestly dude, you should've talked with the second poster first, the Sailor Moon example outclasses your complaints about "believe it."
Also, of course it's now a kid's animation, who do you think they're dubbing this for?

rly? I may have to watch sailor moon to figure out what was different. I used to watch it because it was before robotech(macross).
but still, anyone agree with me that some animes are no longer their original self. While I have been attacked this seems to be a safe assumption.

"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
Are you talking about foreign adaptations of some anime series (e.g. Robotech, Voltron, Saber Rider) or am i just seeing another complaint against toned-down dubbing?
What makes an anime "too modified" for you anyway?
It just has to do with cultural differences that most adults could probably get, but would go right over most American childern's heads. Not that I'm saying I agree with changing content for anime aimed at children, but I do think that it's justified in most cases.
Most American children watching Pokemon aren't going to know what a rice ball is. So they subsitute it for something more familar; "doughnut". That doesn't really make a huge difference in the show it's self, and I'm fine with it. Though things such as with sailor moon are a little more bothersome for me as they actually change the story and stuff.

Anyone seen that One Piece cartoon?

You should see the mutilated version of Shin Chan we get here.
Robotech and Time Etranger are one of the few examples where the Japanese animation became an American animation. Why? They actually edited content, drawings and just about everything else. Unlike One Piece and Naruto that are STILL BASICALLY THE SAME CARTOON!
Only the artwork... wait, not really...kinda. They replace all guns in the dub with kiddy toys. Not even joking, when they get to Drum Kingdom where they find Chopper, the first thing they see are angry villagers wielding POP GUNS. Y'know, the little gus with the corks with strings on them? Originally they had real guns, but 4KIDS's dub tore through any signs of violence in that show.Unlike One Piece

People don't die in One Piece so who cares? They could have been holding a banana for gods' sake. That is not the same edit as Robotech. Characters made complete 360 degree turns in that show. Buggie the Clown was still the same old pedophile looking guy. Luffy was still as happy as hell. Nothing changed.
It doesn't matter how much of it gets edited out of an anime and americanized. It's obviously a cartoon, because the original unedited Japanese version is still technically a cartoon.
Anime = Cartoons. Even the mature ones.
The artstyles and context of the two countries are just radically diffrent, and it's easier for us to differentiate the two by calling Cartoons from Japan and other asian countries anime, and cartoons from western countries cartoons.
Plus it's a hell of a lot easier to say "Anime" than "Cartoons from Japan"...Or even "Sophisticated Animation from Japan" for those who can't acknowledge the fact that they watch cartoons.
Hell, if I'm not mistaken don't the Japanese call all of our cartoons Anime as well? Since you know...It's all animation?
Yes, but just like any other language, we have take the word anime and put our own spin to it. We consider anime to be "Japanese animation" or something around those lines. I actually find the animation between Japan and America to be similar, depending on the time frame. Cartoons from America during the '90's had a huge influence from Japanese cartoons. Red Planet looks as anime-like as America is going to get.
Just like the Japanese use the word "don't mind" in their own way. In Japan "don't mind" is used in a very different way we do. They sometimes even use it to tell people to back a car up.
Boy, we're really having a history lesson here, aren't we?
Naruto stopped saying, "believe it" after episode 25, and the English dub is fully uncut on DVD.
FUNi now owns the license for One Piece, and are releasing all episodes uncut on DVD, as well as some on their video portal.
If this were a few years ago, this discussion would hold some merit, but it's not, and there's no point in talking about "examples" that don't hold any relevance anymore. The fixes have been made, let's move on already.
As for Naruto being a kids' show, well, in Japan it certainly is. In the US at least, not so much, children's shows (Naruto spoilers).
Yes, the Japanese version of Sailor Moon and the American one are quite different.
In the Japanese, all the Sailor Senshi and Mamoru die towards the end of the first season. In the American one, they don't, they are just captured. All those scenes are cut out. They also cut out a scene in which Mamoru is evil, and choking Sailor Moon, I believe.
(Of course they come back to life, but they do die.)
