Why anime is bad?
I hear alot about how bad anime is. Lots of people tell me i should stop watching it because it has no real life lessons and it has no educational value. Some say that it is just animated porn.
What do you think
Probably the wrong place to be asking, since we will tend to be a bit biased.
But most people have an image when they think of anime as the entertainment of Otaku social outcasts who are trying to be japanese or have shut themselves off from the world.
What doesn't help is they also have no experience with it, all they know is it is "cartoons" and "cartoons are for kids." Reinforced by stuff like Naruto which only enforces the point of it being a kid show since cartoon network basically modified the entire anime to be a kids show.
They have never seen serious anime, I dare someone to call Higurashi no Naku Koro ni a kids anime.
Hentai is animated porn. Just sayin'.

Just like with so many other things in this world, anime has its own unique set of pros and cons. Bearing this in mind however, I wouldn't put too much trust in the words of people who simply see it as a bad thing with no real value. A far more valuable opinion would be from one who views anime from an objective standpoint with no significant bias one way or the other; or at least one who has the ability to set aside said bias.Originally Posted by Cash-lee

As to what I think; well, I'll be the first to admit that there are more than enough half-hearted animes with less than adequate storylines to go around. But there are also those choice few that are just an absolute pleasure to watch and that can offer some choice knowledge and wisdom; depending on the viewer.
With regards to the last thing you mentioned 'bout animated porn, FS already cleared that up. Hentai is animated porn, and that's the cold hard truth of it. But also keep in mind that there is a significant difference between what is seen as hentai and what is seen as regular anime.

Some animes have some educational value, such as Rurouni Kenshin, in which has been accurately said about the time period it was in.
FS defined hentai already, but there is also Yuri, Yaoi, and sometimes Ecchi is declared as one too.
Anime is simply just another form of entertainment. Right now, I see this as an opportunity for Mavericker to preach on how evil anime is =3

Well unless whoever told you that only EVER watches documentarys then they cant really say anime has no life lessons. Its a highly ignorant statement.
I was at Barnes & Noble the other day reading the manga for free because I'm a bum, and I overheard two parents arguing with a store employee over a nude bath scene in one of the Inuyasha volumes. I dunno if that means it's bad for you or not, but sounds HOT
I seriously posted something almost exactly like this post once, I even mentioned Higurashi. How epic is that?
I personally have learned a lot from watching anime/hentai. Who ever is telling you these things doesn't know what they're talking about.
On a more serious note, anime is a luxury. This is very true. But then again, so is TV, and video games, and books, and hanging out with friends, communicating with other humans, and LIVING entirely.
So we should all listen to those people that told you that anime is pointless and go live under a rock for the rest of our lives. Because anything that doesn't make you money must be completely fruitless.

Well some of it is partially anime porn so I'll have to agree with them on that, but they are just being immature so ignore what they say. Anime isn't bad, its all about the eyes of the beholder.

Alot of people don't know that anime isn't limited to hentai. (Which isn't "bad".)
Those sets of people probably think all anime is the same. Now you can tell them that isn't true. =3

A Co-Worker and I had this convo the other day. It started from talking about Ninja Assassin (cool movie) and I said something along the lines that it would have been a cool anime and he said it wouldn't work because a lot of people in America just don't get anime.
I don't think it is bad in anyway. I do feel that it intimidates people because unlike American cartoons, that tend to stay geared to children with family friendly story lines, animes can go anywhere and everywhere.

Anime is not good for you. It is not bad for you. If your obsession stouted your imagination and intelligence, then we got a problem. If you believe that you can live on anime, then we got a problem. There are some anime that have academic value, but shows like The Hills Have Size and Kanokon have none.
That The Japanese censor all of their porn.

Even if people didn't learn anything from anime, what matters is that it's engaging and entertaining.
Well, in the first place... that makes it sound like EVERYTHING must have some sort of educational value or else it's bad. Let's face it, we don't enjoy only educational things, there's plenty of useless, mind-numbing fun that can be had and that isn't BAD! hahaha... well, not always bad anyway.
Plus, not all anime is porn. Granted some is... but not every bit of it. Anime, like many things, isn't prone to being purely black and white. There's a lot of gray involved. There's kid-directed anime, there's mature adult anime, there's porno anime, there's horror anime...the list just goes on. Some have moral lessons involved, others don't. *shrugs*

*blink* Anime is anime. It's not good for you, nor is it bad for you. What it is, is what you make it to be. If you think it's the best thing since sliced bread, then it's damn awesome. If you think it rots your brain, then it sucks. Screw whatever anyone else thinks.
