Do you prefer minor characters or major characters? Why?

I couldn't find the thread like this and since somebody(probably Eris) said that we should make Misc more lively, here is a question:
Movies,Books,Films,Anime,theater.... There are always main and minor characters.
Which ones do you like more? Main ones or Minor? Why?
P.S. I know you could like minor character in one show and main character in another film, but just chose those, which you like more often.

Here I start:
Personally I like minor characters more, because since they don't show up that often they are more mysterious and cooler. And besides main characters are often made stupid and I don't like it like that.

I like the minor characters because they make up the bulk of the plot.

Probably minor characters. Main characters need to be so in the mix with other main characters, which limits them a bit. But minor characters can be pariahs and individualists in another way, which is usually a refreshing breeze.

I prefer the minor characters. Without them, you would of never really noticed the some characteristics that the main characters had.

Alright for minor characters. I like minor characters because they seem more possible to me. By that I mean that main characters always triumph and manage to overcome obstacles with little effort, while minor characters struggle through and you never know when they'll falter or gain victory.

Also, some minor characters are more wiser than main characters.

Minor characters are very important too though. o.o;

If by "minor" you mean supporting, then yeah, minor characters are usually much more interesting (especially villains).

I've always noticed without the minor characters the main characters would not have much to build on and their story would be limited. So I'll have to go with minor characters.

Because minor characters are flat (meaning their personality isn't well- rounded) they have a lot more flexibility as to where they can be in the story and what they do. Since less of their character is known, the mind is free to imagine more to fill in the blank spots. And there can be far more minor players in a story, which is really good for moving along the plot.

Main characters all the way if it's anime/manga. Unless their personality is completely detestable. lol

Minor characters can be boring and or annoying when there's too many of them. And a lot of these don't get character growth at all.

It really depends on the show. But since the OP says we have to choose only one, I say minor characters. Without them, the main character wouldn't be "main", s/he would be the "ONLY" character! :P

I say minor characters. Main characters actually are generally stupid in a lot of books and anime. The minor character are usually much more interesting since you really can't predict what they will do or what will happen to them. They also will sometimes have a much more difined, out-there, or awesome personality in comparison to the main.

For me it depends on what you class as major characters. If you mean ONLY the one main character that the story revolves around then I would for sure say minor characters in most cases. The absolute main characters in most shows tend to be somewhat archetyped.

If you mean the several characters which are closely involved in most of the plot it would be a harder choice. My favourite characters usually come from the group of characters that is very close to the main plot, but not the hero of the story.

Minor characters that only show up in about half the episodes tend to be lower on my list of favourites, though admittedly they are vital to any story.

Minor for sure. Just take the Akatsuki from naruto as an example.

If a character is awesome, they are awesome. But... I prefer main characters because there isn't much of a story without them... :P But minor characters certainly help aid things along too.

What about Fuko from Clannad? She's a main character in her story arc but comes a minor character after.

That does it now I have to rattle off SMART main characters in anime: Kyon, Lelouch Britannia, Kusakabe Maron, Shidou, Alucard, Arucreid, Takamichi Nanoha, Inuzuka Koushi, Hibiki Kyosuke, Yagami Raito, Shana, Narumi Ayumu, Naota, Kurosaki Ichigo, Edward Elric, Kunisaki Yukito, Kannagi Kazuma, Chidori Kaname, Kokonoe Rin, Jun, Shinku, Negi Springfield....okay do I need to go on or can I stop now?

Never say "generally". There's balance in everything. My take on it: a third of main characters are geniuses, a third are idiots and a third are in the gray area. Maybe in shounen series for kids, they're generally stupid (Goku, Luffy, Naruto etc) but certainly not general anime.

I guess I'm gonna break the mold and say major. Minor characters are often used as plot devices, they're only there to aid the major characters along so I tend to find they're not particularly believable and the down side to knowing less about them/keeping them flexible is they're pretty flat. You can never really get in there with the psychology of the character because it's just not that relevant, so yes, I go with major.

I have to agree with Kiryuu... while i do like minor characters, i think the main characters are the ones that i read/watch the series for- therefore if i dont have an interest in the main character, regardless of how immense the minor characters are, i wont show much interest in it... not that i dont show an interest in minor characters also ^^

Both lead and supporting characters are important too cast development and plot development but I prefer the main ones.

I just feel on a whole you get to know them better and you always kinda want to see it work out for them even when it doesnt.

Though my fav type of show is when you have good ballance between lead support eg Lost,24.

I usually like the major characters, because they're the ones usually fighting for something or show the most development. The main character is where all the action is. I'd rather be hanging out with Harry Potter than Lavander Brown.

There are a few cases where I do not care for the main character, and really enjoy seeing my favorite minor character jump in. It's all about their personality!

It really depends. Major characters have stories and everything around them but minor ones also sometimes have some great job in the storyline which sometimes , makes me wanna hate the lead role. I understand , major are suppose to be there and all but it sucks sometimes.... -_-
So i choose minor from most of my anime experience.

I prefer minor characters for laughs whereas major characters for kick-***, romantic as well as sentimental scenes.

But in a healthy competition between the two, I guess I'll support the minor. ( Better to be a revolutionary than a tyrant. O_0 ??)

I tend to like minor characters more than the main characters. I think it's because they are interesting. You only know as much about them as the main character does and it makes me curious to find out much more about them.
