I just saw it today, and I have to say that I loved it! It was awesome and amazing, the creators really went all out in planning the dolls! They looked fabulous, all the details were really intricate. I loved the way 1's eyes were created to make his eyes slits rather than circles. I absolutely adored 3 and 4! SO DAMN CUTE OMG! *overload* 5 was very likable, and 9 was your average guy becoming a hero. <3 And poor 2! 7 was so amazing, I really loved her personality.

Anyway, did anyone else see it yet? If not I highly recommend it. Produced by Tim Burton and music by Danny Elfman, so you know it's going to be worth seeing!

From his movie Edward Scissorhands to Sleepy hollow , he is a genius.
And i saw this movie's music video on VH1 , it was a song named "Welcome home" by Coheed and Cambria , and let me tell you i was amazed and blown away by it.
Gonna watch it soon , cant wait!~

People say the same of Quintin Tarantino. One need not be a Burton (or Tarantino) 'hater' to dislike one of their movies.


Bad Memory

Have to disagree. While the animation was very well done, I enjoyed the original silent short a lot more then this movie.

The writing was very cliched and hackneyed, most characters were basic stereotypes without any thought put into characterization or development, and oh yes, the movie made no sense.

 

The machine ate pieces of the scientists soul, they got regurgitated into the atmosphere, and rain fell.

Eh?

Not that there weren't nice moments in the movie, but I spent most of the time listing the cliches (tropes) they were using, and I would have really liked a slightly better story.

One can say that the soul is the key to life beyond that of just smex, poop eating etc. The life-force within the soul of the man, through alchemical magickal processes, brought life to the world again. (i.e. Water)

It may not may regular scientific sense, but Alchemy isn't technically science, it's that ol' magick shtuff. So, it does make sense in a fantasy-based perspective.

Beyond that, I enjoyed the movie very much, though it was kinda short. =oo

I...fell asleep....watching it last night. It was just so boring. I had to get woken up by my friend watching it with me because I began to snore. I just found it boring. Nothing against the movie, but there are just too many CG movies out there that need to do it a bit better. It's one of those movies that I built up in my head that was going to be great, and I got the Monsters vs. Aliens effect. I ended up watching District 9 for a second time instead.

Um, no. I can accept alchemy and the like in the context of a movie, and I don't expect every movie to follow exact science, or I wouldn't watch movies. The problem is that I can't accept the contrived logic the movie comes up with.

 

Each of the Nine was a fragment of the scientists soul. Ok, fine I get that.
3, 4, 7, 9 are alive. 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 are sucked into the machine, via the macguffin that 9 installs (Nice Job Breaking It Hero). The one the scientist entrusts them with for some reason.

Of course AI Is A Crapshoot as the Nazis By Any Other Name soon learn, setting up the Apocalypse How. The movie of course takes place After The End.
The team contains: Action Girl (7), Dumb Muscle (8), Gadgeteer Genius (2), Mad Oracle (6), Twin Telepathy (3/4), The Woobie (6), Grumpy Old Man (1), and of course The Everyman (9)

So the awakened Mr. Fab with the Glowing Eyes Of Doom starts eating them one at a time. They free the four souls (1/2 of a human soul) and send them up into the ether ("They're Free Now") which Saves The World with their Heroic Sacrifice.

So what the hell was the plan of that scientist initially? Considering he provided the stitchpunks with both the magic video box, and the soul sucker.

Posting that many TVTropes links is just begging for trouble. The amount of tabs that you will cause to open will in no time exceed critical mass and form a miniature black hole that gobbles up the solar system.

TV tropes are bad for you, they make you stop enjoying movies. Stop being so damn picky and accept that cliches are an integral part of society. If you need there to be almost no cliches in your entertainment to enjoy it, then you'll have a decidedly boring life.

As far as movies go, it was great. I would give it a 9 because, Ace is right in this, the storyline was pretty thin. It felt like it was based on a book (which it's not) and that a lot of the explanations had to be cut. Someone should make a book out of this, and an RPG.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It looks good, and if there were any movie I'd go see if I were going to see one, that one would be on the shortlist. I just don't go to movies, ya know?

But props to Burton for doing it, it only improves my opinion of him.

My main problem was the lack of coherent writing and the unexplained ending. The animation was good, and some of the action scenes were quite fun as well, but I had higher hopes for the movie.

I agree with you that it was pretty. I love how they did number 1's eyes as well. But I felt the story was attempting to cover too much in too short of a time, and you lost a lot of it. Still agree the animation was amazing.

It was okay. Not the best movie of the year or anything.
Throughout the movie I found that every other person had more characterization than 9 did. Maybe it's because 9 is such a cliched hero. I feel like we never really got to know him. Cuz really, he wakes up, and all of a sudden he can talk, and next thing you know he wants to save some people he just met. There was no transition. I didn't feel any sympathy for the characters

I felt like the characters were dying over and over again. It became predictable.

Also the ending was totally weird. Did not understand at all. Is humankind doomed? (As if it weren't already?) What's going to happen to 9 and the gang? It didn't feel conclusive enough.
