What kind of anime do you tend to watch?[merged]

Oi guys I just want to know what are some major features of a manga or anime that keep you want to read or watch more, or even play the games about it? For example in Naruto many ppl really enjoy the way action is
protruded, or for some, it's the in depth story.

I think you understand, If you can please make a list of some major things anime/manga must have to keep loving it.

I enjoy myself
1. Action must have some kind
2. Comedy.
3. conflict
4. pretty good art
5. little drama
etc.... you get the idea

I really like drama/love story on Manga but I like action in Anime

I like manga series that have long, epic adventures more than anything. Now, adventure manga generally have some action involved, but it is not the main focus of the series as it is with battle manga(Naruto, Bleach). Adventure and experiencing the world in which the series takes place should always be the main focus of an adventure series.

Supernatural elements tend to make these a bit more entertaining, but it isn't really a requirement.

Having a deep, expansive world is also very key. I love series which explore the world (Kino no Tabi, Aria, etc.), and this is an element that should play a strong role in any adventure series.

Comedy is okay, provided it is done right. I don't want to see slap-stick comedy in the middle of an epic fight (damn you, Kubo Tite). Comedy has a time and a place, and the incorporation of comedic elements into pretty much every single series you see these days has been getting on my nerves.

I also like event-driven stories, as opposed to character-driven stories. I actually think this lets a series have more expressive and developed characters.

I hate repetition, like you see in these sitcom-like series, romance-comedy series, harem series, and so forth (Katekyo Hitman Reborn, to-LOVE-ru, Love Hina, respectively).

I hate drama series. If there's one thing that can absolutely kill an anime series, it's needless drama. I'm not talking about series like the early military-drama Gundam series. Think more along the lines of high-school drama (Fruits Basket, Inuyasha, Gundam SEED, etc.)

For me it's all about the story and the characters. Sure, I love humor and action but the unfolding of the story and the evolution of characters is what keeps me coming back and will be what I remember most.

I like the characters, exciting action or humor, the unique plots, Japanese culture, the ... the ... so many reasons and levels it is hard to describe!

I like the action because it looks amazing and its hard to make it look soo realistic in movies or TV shows (with some exceptions). Examples: Naruto, Bleach, DBZ

I like the romance as well because its mostly romance centered around people our age. And its funny to see how they cope with it. Examples: Fruit Basket, Ah My Goddess, School Rumble

I also like the comedy, but it has to be done right. I really like the comedy in Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu; I just couldn't stop laughing.

I don't know what you mean by in-depth story. (FMA??)

What keeps me coming back?

Series that have all of these keep me coming back the most:
- Great characters that one actually cares about. (an annoying character like Naruto turns me away.)
- Emotion.
- Good humor. (if present. Humor is not required, but if it's there, it's required to be good.)
- An interesting story.

I can enjoy an anime that's built on humor only, but usually not as much, and the humor has to actually be funny, which is a rarity for me.

I like those fuzzy warm stories that make you feel all good inside =D.

For example, Kimi ni Todoke makes me want to cry every time I read it, but it makes me so happy =D

Okay first of all this isn't really a 'favorite genre thread', just like the title implies, what kind of shows do you tend to watch? It could mean your preference, favorite, other cases such as availability and mood, or a hodge-podge of cases and reasons.

With an extensive amount of anime i could get on DVD, online whatnots, and television alone, my 'tendencies' kinda sides to a case of preference and total randomness.

As far as preferences go, i prefer classics yet i don't mind the newer ones. I love the more 'serious' stuff, mecha (more on Super Robots), strange comedies, and unusually-themed titles.

To support my statement, i would like to say that most of my favorite anime falls under the categories i've mentioned. My favorite ever - Hakugei: Legend of The Moby Dick involves a re-hashed yet excellent retelling of the literary classic. Zipang - a story that revolves around a modern battleship transported back into WWII is a combination of sci-fi and military themes. Black Jack and Galaxy Express 999 are examples of well-acclaimed classics. Space Runaway Ideon, my favorite mecha show is notorious for it's serious and overkill plot. Cromartie High School is an example of what i would like to call 'strange' comedy. As for unusually-themed titles, i'm talkin' about shows such as Game Center Arashi (video games), Yakitate! Japan (bread-making), Moyashimon (agriculture), Grander Musashi (fishing), and many more.

Randomness means i could go for anything no matter how good or bad it is. I have my preferences but hey, that doesn't mean everything else should be ignored. I'm a fan of Pokemon BTW, and i know most of you doesn't. So, you get my point right?

So how 'bout you?

For me old or new isn't really an issue.
I can watch an anime from the 80's and enjoy it just as much as a newly released anime.

My Natural tendency is to go for the action type animes (Black Lagoon, Hellsing, etc) and I prefer just about any kind (Fantasy, sci-fi and everything in between) so that is what I will usually go for.

Sometimes tho my preference shifts towards the more simpler animes that I can mellow too (Such as Kiki's delivery service, Ah My Godess) and so I will abandon the action in favor of these.

Interspersed amongst all this are shows I watch simply because they are so darn fun I can't help but like them (Shows like FLCL and Excel Saga).

I don't mind how new or old a show is either (but classics works best for my tastes), but there are those who shun the old ones in favor of much modern titles simply because of their preference which leans towards modernity. It ain't bad tho, that's them.

Typically old robot shows and terrible OVAs. I refrain watching alot of the new stuff lately because it's so damn repetitive. The reason old OVAs are great is because directors would just produce whatever came to their head without thinking about it. Often this was the best (funnest) crap ever produced, or the best thing on the block.

i prefer watching shows with great Character Developement and story, like FLCL for example has some of the greatest character developement ive ever seen the story being as random as it is , is really good... so yeah as long as theres no intolerable characters and a really stupid and and long dragged out story i'll probably watch it

dude Naotas dad (nandaba) is a GENIUS! character... are you telling me you wouldve been able to create characters like Nandaba? or his thought process and rants? and Haruko is another good character in that anime shes very eccentric and surprising...

The "Love Relationships / Drama" kind. ^^ I tend to gravitate more towards those types of anime since my head is stuck in the clouds >.> and I am a very compassionate romantic person!!

Seriously, I watch all genre of anime as long as the story is nice, the characters are well drawn and
it doesn't show too much randomness.

The genre doesn't bother me that much... What actually runs through my mind is how did those bad looking animes get on air? (Haha, jke)

my favorites are the excessively (almost randomly) violent anime like Elfen Lied, or Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, i just love me some senseless gore xD

but i also enjoy really in depth stories, or psycological, morals questioning, anime like Jigoku Shoujo...

the latter is much more common in video games, so its hard to name the anime ive seen that fits...


but my all time favorite is Shounen-Ai (boy love) being gay i love seeing two guys in love, and the anime take on it is usually cute, but not overally romantic, especially with violence like Loveless xD

Well I watch all kinds of anime. So I ticked all the choices. I am not to picky when it comes to anime you see.

I voted them all because watch pretty much any anime: Sometimes action ones like Basilisk; Romance ones like Rumbling Hearts are okay; Death Note is one of my favourite animes so I like them with an in depth story; and I also like craziness like paniponi dash.
So all four.
Should there not be a few more choices? For example Horror for anime like Requiem From The Darkness.

I tend to watch/play any kind of genres of anime, manga and games. For games as long as it's interesting some how I'll like it, anime games tend to be. What I don't like in anime and manga is when it's all about - - (boyXboy, girlXgirl and boyXgirl), there's no plot character development nothing really so I don't like that kind of genre. I don't mind a little bit but not the whole plot of the anime and manga. What keeps me wanting to know what happens next is; the characters, plot, action, funny stuff to come, who's gonna die, how the art work is (rarely alone, because it needs more then just good art works) and so on. What makes me a little bit up set is when the anime/manga has filler art work. It's hard to make out what's going on some times though oddly it just made it more funny other times.

I tend to watch lots of vampire, bloody and supernatural genre. Maybe I'd like to live a life being a vampire..after watching Vampire Knight. *melts* Also not forgetting characters that can summon something to fight. Thats awesome too!
