Although I am a newbie to this forum, I've been into Gundam since I was 10. (14 years) I've seen and or own the following: Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam 0080, 0083, Char's Counter Attack, 08th MS team, F91, Z Gundam, some of ZZ gundam (horrible anime, had to stop watching) Victory Gundam (best series yet) G Gundam, Gundam Wing, some of Seed, and a little of Gundam 00. Also most of Igloo and Gundam Evolve, but those don't really count

I did not see any votes for Uso Evin from Victory Gundam. He is in fact, the youngest Gundam pilot in Gundam history at 13 years old. Did I mention he's a total bada$$?

He's only 13 yet he manages to beat the living crap out of veteran pilots...WITH THEIR OWN SUITS at times. He's not even a real pilot. He's a farmboy who gets thrown into the fighting and he's a prodigy.

Sorry Heero fanboys...I think Uso takes the cake in my book. Plus, no offense, It's a MUCH better series. And just because I like UC better than later series, Char, Anavel Gato and definitely Norris Packard tie in a close second.

If you haven't seen Victory Gundam yet...DOWNLOAD IT. It's amazing. It's got a great story and it's not EMO like most of the series after UC. Hate me if you will, I mean no offense, but most of the gundam series after Universal Century just seem geared toward little tykes...
I haven't watched Victory Gundam so I can't comment on that(I might when I've finished 0079, Z & ZZ. And I strongly disagree with your opinion on non-UC series but there's no need to start a UC-non-UC battle.

I just read up briefly about Uso and he isn't a newtype which raises him on my list even though I haven't seen Victory. I haven't finished watching all the series where newtypes are the main protagonists but I personally prefer pilots who aren't newtypes.

    Ultra argument settling finisher move

Amuro Ray was without a doubt one of the best Gundam pilots ever, however, he was evolved. He also was the son of the designer of the Gundam. I fimly believe, although the anime never states this, that he had some knoweldge of the inner machinations of the Gundam prior to using it. That's why he was able to do what he did right out of the gate, again this is speculation. His early career was standard. He was an ace, but yet still the unevolved Char was able to best him time and again. Plus he was a hot head. He would break protocol time and again. Heero was a machine. Goal. Accomplish. Goal. Accomplish. No room for error, no room for mistakes.
So his dad who doesn't even live in the same colony with him magically descended through his window one night waving top secret info about the major hope of the Earth Federation to develope own MS in front of his nose "hey Amuro it is good Operation V info YU MUST LERN NAO!". And your firm belief is the undeniable proof. And what the heck do you mean unevolved Char? Char was a Newtype to begin with. Amuro was the one that needed to awaken.

Kamille was a girl, and I'll leave it at that. If you pick this guy....I'll be speechless...
Lets have Heero fight the girl, both at their best!

    Heero starts!

    Heero's turn:
-Heero's passive skill "perfect soldier" kicks in, Heero is set on the objective! ("target acquired")
-Wing Gundam Zero's passive skill "ZERO System" kicks in, Heero's gains statistical premonition!
-Heero aims TBR, Lockon failed! Minovsky density too high!
-Heero overries lockon to ZERO System and fires TBR!

    Camille's react turn:
-Camille's passive skill "Newtype instinct" kicks in, Camille reacts with reality premonition!
-Camille dodges successfully (actual outcome > statistic)!
-Camille's passive skill "overemotional wise-crack" kicks in, Camille is pissed! ("if you can't fight, LEAVE THE BATTLEFIELD!")

    Camille's turn:
    -Camille is pissed!
-Zeta Gundam's passive skill "Biosensor" activates, Camille now has Minovsky Barrier and amplified weapon energy!
-Camille's Beam Sabre's length now depends on his arousal! (now thats a manly weapon there)
-Camille casts "Pressure" on Heero's unit!

    Heero's react turn:
-Heero succeeds a mental fortitude save from "Pressure", it wasn't directed at him!
-Wing Gundam Zero is hit by "Pressure"!
    -The ZERO system stops responding!

    Heero's turn:
-Heero tries to shoot again, failed! The controls are not responding!
-Heero tries to maneuver, failed! The controls are not responding!
-Heero tries to blow up Zeta Gundam with a charge he planted beforehand, failed! Astonaige found the charge on yet another non-routined checkup and got rid of it, besides, the remote detonator is not responding anyways!
-Heero tries to eject, failed! The ejection system is not responding!
-Heero tries to self destruct, failed! The self destruct mechanism is not responding!

    Camille's turn:
    -Camille performs Waverider Crash!

    Heero's react turn:
-Failed! Heero's react turn is not responding!

Heero is speechless alright. And tell that about girls to Norma, maybe she's in a good mood and won't destroy mandkind with the Legion.

Great stuff man but I don't read Japanese. Can you tell me the criteria?

I love Gundam but I hope Amuro, Uso, Setsuna, Kira and Heero(in that oder) aren't the best pilots in the Gundam multiverse. It's objective but I'm sure some of the antagonist aces like Char, Gato, Packard and Zechs rivals these guys.

Char can rival Amuro, yes, he's also made of complete awesome

in 2007 a poll asking for who people want to see more spin-offs of (being who is popular) in japan.

L was the top among females...
The males' top was not Naruto, not Ichigo, not Ruffy, it was Char

Regarding the fact Deathnote ran 2006-2007, it was no wonder L could become popular, but Char still having no peers up to date is really something.

Regarding their pilot skill, Amuro and Char were the two to fight Ideon (see thread in Mecha forum about strongest mech to date). Ideon was God. Also, they are the only known names recorded in black history of Turn A Gundam when converging in SRW, though there were other gundam main character pilots around (Heero, Garrod, just to name a few), they get no mention.

A possible candidate for the strongest of the multiverse would be Master Asia or Domon, if they actually counts as pilots. But G Gundam... well you know... XD

Yes, please do tell the criteria on the gundam pilot stats...I currently live in Japan, however I'm still learning Japanese

...And J Gundam...I partially take back what I said about ALL series after UC. It's just some of the Gundams in Wing seem a little bit ridiculous with feathers and massive "scythe's" and all. The last time I checked, feathers, capes, and wings don't belong on mecha...fin funnels maybe...leave the feathers and capes for pirates and angels. All of it seemed a little bit over the top for me. G Gundam's demographic was 7-10 yr old boys, no doubt about it. Seed... I just don't like Seed. Hand drawn frame by frame animation beats computer generated stuff hands down, I don't care who you are. Gundam 00 has a pretty deep storyline which I like, but again...hand drawn animation...can't beat it.

Kira Yamito was the "Perfect Coordinator." He was as perfect as mankind could have made him. Although not his fault, this is an unfair advantage. Even with this bonus, and with his "seedbursts" I think that Kira in the Strike Freedom, fails again Heero Yuy in the Wing ZERO. While Kira was focused on not killing, Heero was focused on the bigger picture, stopping the whole war by any means necessary. Kill or be killed.
So if Kira tried he'd be better. And it doesn't stop him from weapon-sniping Heero, who asks for it with a big chargin-ma-lazors-cannon and huge wing flaps and all to stabilize the shot. Even the 4th Gundam's pilot was at least capable of moving the beam while shooting, his gun is less overkill, but still more than capable of blasting MS and flagships to a healthy extent.

Yes, please do tell the criteria on the gundam pilot stats...I currently live in Japan, however I'm still learning Japanese
I can't read the top 2 kanji, but the stat is about special attacks, like proper use of Wings of Light and Hi-Mat bursts.
    Left side:
Search (The ability to percieve enemies at a distance, which works better if you are a strong NT or have a ZERO system.)
Speed (Ability to perform extreme maneuvers in short time, to react etc.)
    Right Side:
Offense (Ability to wreck opponents in many ways)
Defense (Ability to avoid taking damage)

Its rough on the edges but having it is better than not. Kira's high offense despite lack of killer-instinct can be explained that he's still successful at limb-snipes, Amuro and Setsuna's lower special is because they don't actually have power rangeresque flashy finishers.

I just read up briefly about Uso and he isn't a newtype which raises him on my list even though I haven't seen Victory. I haven't finished watching all the series where newtypes are the main protagonists but I personally prefer pilots who aren't newtypes.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but Usso IS a Newtype, you have to be one to control Wing's of Light and go blocking sattelite cannons and TBRs with it.

UC protagonist aces who are not NTs:

    Chris/Bernie
most people say Chris sucks, its mostly true because a zaku beat her in a gundam. On her defense, she was mostly used as escort and territorial defense pilot and defended others better than herself. Also, Bernie's Zaku Custom was stronger than the basic type and he was trying very very hard to achieve what he did, also luring Chris into traps disabling all of her ranged weapons before the final showdown. Interestingly, Journey of Jaburo suggests Chris could have beaten Norris by landing a cheap shot on him with her hidden gattling gun like she did with Mikhail.

    Yuu
He was able to push the BD in EXAM into a retreat with phillipe's help piloting a GM himself, though he spent most of his piloting skill on preventing BD from killing off allies when piloting it himself. The EXAM is hard to master, Yuu was one of the few who could. He also gets spin-offs where he escorts Amuro into further battles as wingman. In the game he originally appears in, he can challenge Amuro in the Original Gundam - but unless you are extremely pro or use some sort of cheap trick you'll likely die very swift death on that level. In some games, he's given a similiar attitude as Heero, even to the point of a joke where if he communicates with Heero in a level where they face off (Yuu in player command, meaning he's more likely of winning this encounter unless dileberately gimped to lose), they just stare at eachother until someone interrupts.

    Matt
Though he doesn't really show much in his own manga, they just made him stronger than Shiro in any game they appear together (without shiro's Ai no Chikara being on).

    Sieg
This guy is made of win, he pilots a unit that ignores human capacities, that he isn't a steaming pile of goop from the G-Forces yet speaks for itself. Also, his unit was originally meant for Newtype aces. He also beats some skilled Newtypes (though not without help) And his unit is awesome.

    Master
In strategy games, he has solid stats, nothing out of the ordinary, but he is known to be equally good in melee, artillery and sniping, making him a great "commando" unit.

    Shiro
Technically Norris was better, but Norris is old and experienced, given Shiro could still grow he can be really good, he's at his max when defending or surviving for Aina, or anything related to Aina. In G Generations this is shown that when he activates Ai no Chikara, he becomes overall stronger than Kira in SEED mode.

    Kou
He also sucks technically being nothing more than a rookie fresh off the piloting academy. But speaking for him is the fact that he can keep up with Burning, ex-leader of the immortal 4th (known to still consist of its original casts because they survived countless epic battles without a loss) and its member who join Albion later. Also, he's one of the few pilots shown to actively possess the knowledge to recalibrate his weapons and thrusters. Sure, it didn't help much with the Zephyrantes, but if you compare how it moved with the Ground Type Zakus in MS IgLOO, you will see his efforts actually did something. Though his talents are lacking, he has shown to catch up with extreme and obsessive devotion and hard work, beyond that of other devoted pilots like Heero or Shinn. This is shown in an own status effect given to him named "Obsession of Kou", the gains rival an active Trans-Am or ZERO system.

    Def
This guy at one point pulls the last shot move Amuro did in the OYW, right after he says he is using his own power (rather than the AR chip), hinting he got pretty good.

    Ford
Though he and his buddy should have been fodder-esque, his partner manages to sink a fleet with a heavy beam rifle by overcharging it, basically rolling buster rifle, but less showing off and with only one rifle. And he's supposedly better than his partner (but can't pull that one move off because he has no comparable weapon on his unit).

    Jack
If you go to the Gundam simulator ride, he's one of the escorts in a GM, the one who seemingly keeps panicking everytime you get attacked while his wingman seems to be the more experienced of the two (you wouldn't believe he was the squad leader if it wasn't actually explicitely written on his bio), but it turns out he can get you to safety pretty well.

    Eiger
Technically not a protagonist, but rather a rival to player controlled Zeon forces. His only known feat is extreme recklessness.

    Garret
Garret, like Master, is often player controlled making his actual abilities obscure other than him being a veteran. Though in simulations he is able to manage Zeon victories and beat the whole 08th MS Team, make the seige on Jaburo a Zeon win etc, it still can't define what he's really capable of. In games, he has solid stats like Master, though he's only barely better than average.

    Frederick
He technically gets blown up and incapacitated in *every* battle he's in, but he did fight in a lot of major OYW battles and survived.

    Johnny
It is hinted he could have sunken more ships than Char if he wasn't ordered to retreat (on Char's defense, Char was sinking the main flagships, later defined to be mainly Magellan class and not the cheap Salamis ones. The Black tri-Stars were focussed on Revil's ship. Its unknown of what importance Johnny's targets were). In his manga, he is shown alone in a damaged HM Gelgoog against the incoming federation army. He survives.

    Shin (not Shinn from GSD)
Dozul's bodyguard and the White wolf, he is known to have watched Dozul's back in the heaviest of battles (considering Dozul's Zaku is a hulking brute with golden markings all over making it an obvious target and Dozul's specialty being melee attacks, quite a feat). Also seen in a Gundam EVOLVE as Amuro's wingman around the Gryps Conflict.

    Gato
As the Federation laid seige on Solomon, he defended one sid while Dozul's main forces defended another. Trusting that the Big Zam would eliminate anything in its way, Gato charged out and assaulted the Federation forces *by himself*, tearing them apart in the process (not knowing that Amuro and Sleggar would take out Dozul). Interestingly, ingames, if you make him help dozul, Amuro can be defeated due to his lack of experience back to that time.

There are more, I'm just not remembering them right now.

Eh. I'm not even going to bother trying to argue about who's the better pilot when B Gundam is around. But. For the record. Norris Packard's performance near the end of the 08th MS team... really is nothing less than Awesome. With a capital A

LOL! I agree. You've obviously watched all the Gundam series but have you played the majority of the games too?

Anyway, even with the mass overload of Gundam information B Gundam just dropped on us, I would STILL like to see Gato, Norris and Zechs attributes marked out in comparison to the "Fab Five" protagonists.

B Gundam, you obviously know a lot but the battles in the video games are all hypothetical scenarios. I haven't played any but aren't there numerous ways to end a battle? You say Chris may have taken out Norris with the Gatling gun like she did the Russian in 0083 but in a way, that's assuming Mischa and Norris are just as good. Again, it's hypothetical, but I think Norris would destroy Mischa if they dueled. The same goes for McKenzie because she isn't a newtype and only fought twice.

As for Gato(my 2nd favorite pilot in the Gundam multiverse), it doesn't surprise me he could hypothetically beat Amuro when he was young but it would be sweet to see Gato go against the Amuro of CC or even Char.

Shiro vs. Kou would be interesting too.

Hypothetical scenarios need to be treated with some caution. Firstly, you need to see what kind of game it is.

The first type is linear, meaning there's ONE plot, pilot A and B WILL meet in ONE cirsumstance, and one of them beats the other or something will happen, no matter what. There might be a bit of play room like, a condition must be fullfilled for the encounter (which normally doesn't take place to begin with), but if it happens there is no event where the opposite will take place (or letting it happen is a game-over). This can usually lead to a definite conclusion

Example: ACE, a variety of units meet the falling axis, Amuro pushes, everyone helps, Amuro Psychoframe overloads and stops it => Heero and Garrod are there => Their weapons are not enough to blow the Axis up. (Later in another game Heero blows up a rock chipped off of it flyin towards Earth, its the largest of some fragments, but really small compared to the real thing)

The second type is non-linear, the plot can be changed in a lot of ways, be it your choice of faction or decisions you make or simply the battle itself. Here, you must respect the circumstances given, but it can give answers as to what would happen given the mentioned circumstance

Example: Giren's Greed, Ramba ral asks for you to make Kycilia give him a Dom. If you don't or fail, he dies like in the story, but if you succeed he will capture the Gundam (in the story, he also stated "you won by your unit, nothing more", being the best veteran given to Garma to take over the entire United States that is understandable). => Ramba Ral in Gouf loses to Amuro in Gundam, but Ramba Ral in Dom will win.

The third type is completely player-induced, this means the player is given control of a character, and will therefore win all subsequent encounters. But if another character is chosen, that other character will always win in his/her plotline. These results are never to be taken seriously if they have an opposite scenario with no other circumstance than the player's choice of side.

Example: In Gundam Musou, Heero's plotline will make him beat Master Asia in the end, but taking Master Asia results in Master Asia winning.

As I mentioned about the Chris vs Norris thing, Journey to Jaburo hints it as possibility by having Chris cheap shot Norris in a sequence:

Cheap shotting people will usually work under realistic circumstances. The best of aces can't help if they get sniped, ambushed correctly (though these can fail against Newtypes who will just dodge them by instinct even if previously unaware) or otherwise caught with their pants down and Mikhail an extremely skilled commando pilot of Cyclops Force (seen below), I doubt she would even beat Mikhail if he didn't fall for the hidden gattling gun.

Shiro vs. Kou would be interesting too.
Well provided Kou sees Shirou as rival and lost about 5 times to him prior to that in order to get completely obsessed and Shirou is protecting Aina, yes that would be an interesting thought.

I'm going to say Char Aznable. I haven't seen a lot of the Gundam anime yet but in the game Char is my favourite character to play as. His Zaku has some strong moves that can really cut through the enemies. The gold mobile suit also has some good moves.

^^Still working on list, not every anime I has seen has been added yet.

I have to say that Char is still the best, or at least the coolest, pilot I have ever seen.
