Even if that rule came to be, it'd still be like on MySpace and FaceBook where the "kiddies" lie about their age in order to join. I remember lying in order to join MySpace. It doesn't do a whole lot of good. If they're determined enough, they will find a way to join.

If i was in charge of AF, I would put a thread where you could watch difference anime shows for free because AF isn't getting boring now and loads of people are leaving so hopefully members would stay.

well mostly because allot of the people here dont like some of the rules and admins and mods tend to close people's threads allot so that gets on people's nervers

They only close them if they are against the rules, or if they've been inactive for a while. And if people have such a problem with the rules, it's not like anyone is forcing them to stay here.

In all honesty, I think this forum is rather inactive as a whole. I barely see any discussion about anime and the only boards that actually get posted in are the Misc and Intro boards.

Sure, lots of people join per day, but as far as I can tell, people aren't sticking.

I would love to make an actual post, but people just don't interpret your posts the same after you become a staff member. I miss being able to post long winded entries in threads simply because those on their soap boxes would roll their eyes and make a bland gesture as of "who cares" and then filter it down through their cronies to make sure not a word of what was said was heeded.

Funny, even when you help run the site, you still can't change the things you'd like to the most. Like require members to have some decency or respect for everyone. And forget something like an IQ test, because there are people of varying ages, grade levels, and IQ that use the forums, and of course someone in the 9th grade isn't going to score the same as a college student.

I find all those wanting to remove the profanity filter rather silly. First, there are A LOT of children that use this forum, and I'm sure they don't really need to be exposed to all that profanity and then when their parents ask where they picked it up, we only dread one of those answers being "Anime Forum". Secondly, you've clearly yet to learn (or appreciate for that matter) what really goes in to a classical argument or debate. If your vocabulary is THAT lacking, that you feel you need to curse to be verbose, might I suggest opening a dictionary or thesaurus? I'm willing to bet there are a handful of people who need to open up their dictionary just to define what a thesaurus is, before they can even think on how to start using it. =P

If I could (but I can't), I'd change the sad state of affairs as to where a disturbingly high number of members think they own the boards and have developed this gross sense of self-entitlement to whatever they want and more so feel like they deserve whatever is they want or demand or would prefer. It used to be such a rare case. Every now and then you'd get this arrogant upstart demanding to know why they weren't a mod or admin or both, and then they'd go and rag on everyone else who was, or talk about how they'd be much better for consideration than such and such member, and how they would they replace the staff with their friends, or with whom they deem fit (which, is usually a pre-assembled posse/clique). And now, amazingly enough, there is not one, but two, count 'em two! threads about how users would do things if they were a (stealing Eris' term here) modmin or if they were in charge of Anime Forum... How silly! How insulting! How disrespectful! How sad. But that is okay, in itself. If anything, it is perhaps truly wonderful that so many wish to do things so differently or would think about how to and talk on it at the very least. If anything, it means we are doing our jobs right.

Not to mention, we are providing a free-to-you-service... so if anything, I'd change the level of gratitude on Anime Forum if I could. So that maybe for just once, someone would say thank you to our owners who have spent a decade of their lives building, paying for, and maintaining the sites. So maybe for just once, people would thank the Chat / Forum Administrators for maintaining the servers, helping code the sites, and making forum skins, etc. They don't have to do it, they simply choose to. It's not like any of us are rich and living the cake life. Running the sites takes a lot of work, time, and effort. Especially more than one site, on top of people living out their normal daily lives and working their regular jobs, we still find time to mod forums, admin the chats, ban spammers and trolls, repel site raids, and generally make sure you're all entertained and happy--all at no cost to you! Isn't that lovely, wonderful? It's a very nice gift, if you ask me.

Well... it seems I have indeed been able to write something particularly long winded. How about that?

O_O YOU a jr admin don't sound too friendly yourself. You explicitly stated that you would ban pretty much everyone O.O maybe that's why there is so much "hate" for the admins. I however don't have a problem with them, I just had to point that out for you.

Anyway, I would put a downloads section up where people that pay once a month could download anime episodes sort of like Bleach Exile.

This is my issue. Every time I do, someone gets butthurt, or I get a lot of complaints in PM. The general issue is people considering me staff before considering me a member, which I think is pretty damn backwards.

First, I find some of these plans of action strangely contradictory. Why would you want to impose an IQ test as a filter, then allow your members to act like idiots? Why pretend to defend the intelligent, when allowing profuse swearing, stupid topics, and rampant spam only encourages moronic behavior? Why mask it? Why not tell it as it is: you want a safe haven where "smart" members are free to debase themselves without judgement.

Second, on a less hateful note, no downloads are ever going to be offered on this site; one, because it's illegal, and two, because it's stealing property and profits from those companies whose dollars and effort went into creating those shows you love to watch. I think offering downloads at a set price would be a better idea, but I still don't think it will ever happen. That is a huge and costly project, and we just don't have the time, means, or the staff.

Speaking of staff, why is there so much hatred toward it? Trust me, we get fired when we aren't doing our job correctly - as seen fit by the sites' owners. As stated already (not in this post), these services are free to you. It is only through the staff's work and the profits of this site that make it available for use. The sense of entitlement on this forum rears its head enough to make my skin crawl. We ask almost nothing of you, and the only things we ask are so often disrespected, non-cleverly dodged, and outright ignored that I literally have to scream.

So, if I were in charge, I would not give so many users so many second chances that I've seen given.

The forums that I'm running, I don't really mind the profane language as long as its not explicit due to the fact that there aren't any members that are considered "kids."

I do believe though that all the staff members of AF are doing quite a good job and I applaud them for doing a nice and consistent job. Not a lot of people do that these days. I find it utterly frustrating when I see a random member getting pissed at the mods because the forums don't run by their own rules. It annoys the hell out of me. AF does a great job maintaining itself and the members should show some appreciation towards them.

What does bother me though is that there has been a lot of older members that have been posting nonsense when they normally wouldn't. The whole Rem Nightfall and Sparkles deal is something to point out but jeez I don't think it was necessary for all the members to talk bad about that one member publicly.

Also, whoever dares to argue back against Kishiro and Fiery about the download issues, don't. Sure, maybe some other forums allow downloads but be assured that they are NOT supposed to do that at all. It doesn't matter if the anime shows are fansubbed or not, it is illegal. I'm sure that like I want to, Anime Forum doesn't want to have to go through that crap and get flamed by the fansub groups then the government and the web host service etc.

I've been running my forums close to the same routine that AF runs theirs but I'm still a bit different. Otherwise, I do believe that AF is one of the best maintained forums that I go to (that's as active as AF).

Orly? So then what about the "dumb" people that enjoy anime? This IS an anime forum. not everyone is a super genius. I don't claim to be a super genius either but at the same time I think I'm above par when it comes to intellect.

I've seen a few mod/min post in this thread claiming that they wouldn't give a bunch of people the time of day and would ban them. Need I re-instate my last post? Maybe thats why you have members the way they are. Young people join the forums and do not know any better, I think everyone should be forgiven. A lot of people here are just far too uptight.

I'm not trying to start a flame war here, just talking as I see it. Sounds like much of the authority here is arrogant and wants people to bow down to them.
