I think I got an idea but what key would you prefer for me to start my first piece? Need to brain storm a bit.

Depends on what we want to do. Dmin is the saddest chord, and that songette that I just posted is in G.

Either going with a G or something that could harmonize with G would be perfect right?

Eeeeeh. Let me record it first and we'll see from there. The song is a little complex, changing speed, key, and style a couple of times. The "Soft drops" as I call them (that is basically power chords in dropped D that use an sustain on the D string instead of the G string) are great for that Flyleafy, Evanescence sort of feel, but later there's a faster, more melodious bit more suited to fans of groups like 3 Doors Down and Soma, and there's also a touch of Shay in there with a super-fast deep chug riff in the first and third frets.

Basically, this is one of those something for everyone sorts of songs. ^^

But we don't have to go with this one, it's just something I've been throwing together. I'll record it and bring it in when I come in tomorrow.

I read the rests of the posts, and I can honestly say I have no idea what you guys were talking about with the last few posts on the first page, and first few on the second. <_<

It may be because I`m on my phone, but I`m not sure.

Anyway, I can more or less read notes but I have no idea what you guys are talking about with tabs or whatever. *is a n00b*

Although, reading notes for me is looking at it, and singing, somehow reaching the correct key. <_< I kind of know the letters, but it`s been a while since I`ve actually taken a class.

I`m best when I listen to something. Then I can sing along with it, making up words along the way, or . . . whatever. Lol. I`m a very simple person, but my simpleness can become stupidity at points. <_<

no i get what you mean. i cant really sing but i come up with vocal melodies the same way you do basically.

the way guitar tabs work is there are 6 lines (one for each string). from bottom to top the strings are EADGBE. the numbers represent which fret is being pressed on that string, and each fret is a half-step. so if you play the A string on fret 0 (not pressing anything) the note is A. fret 1 is A# and fret 2 is B.

the "drop D" tuning we're referring to is when the low E string is tuned down to D so that from bottom to top the strings are DADGBE. its a really popular tuning for modern rock and metal, since you can just press the D and A strings with one finger and play a 5th.

but anyway the tabs i was showing kirei just correspond to the sadder sounding song in the first vid. she was showing the main riff for a song idea she had that she'll record in the near future for us to hear

If you have any trouble with tabs a notation just send me one or the other and I can get you both in a pdf format(where would we be without computer programmes?).

As for starting out small and our first attempt, what does anyone want to do? Or should I just throw out riffs like everyone else and see what comes of it?

i dig option two. lets us listen til something sparks some inspiration. so far i'm leaning heavily toward the song idea gandizzl mentioned. its just asking for catchy vocal lines
