wow! i've seen the first 5 episodes and i'm pretty hooked. although i can already tell this show has BAD ENDING written all over it. the intro song is absolutely amazing! its so gorgeous i was almost moved to tears when i stopped to really take it in. the short pause followed by "oh quam santcta" is amazing every time i hear it! its just so different for the medium, and so brilliant. does anyone know if its an original song written for the show or a pre-existing one?

i only wish the graphic violence was a bit less....realistic? i mean sure severed limbs arent uncommon in anime but heck, seeing realistic cross sections of limbs every time someone gets shanked is a bit much for me to bear. i wish they woulda just followed the anime standard and drew severed limbs in a way that suggested people are skin filled with solid red haha. at least they forgot to draw organs and stuff, so i'm thankful for that

it sure is a bipolar show huh? the cute slice of life sections followed by intense psychic blood baths

edit: but i agree, SD sucked XD. the gore in elfen lied actually makes me feel a bit nostalgic....it feels like a throwback to old school anime (80's/90s). modern day stuff is pretty sugar coated compared to the old school. my very first exposure to anime was when i was 4 or 5 and the end fight scene of akira was on sci-fi channel. so yeah that pretty much explains why i turned out this way! XD

Yeah, it has a cool Story, I love it.
And about the Violence on it, well in my opinion, if there is something Above the The Word "Violent", then that would be it on the anime, lol

Anyway keep watching, there are so many development on the story you will like it.

man this would totally be my favorite show ever if it had a real ending! . oh well i'm gonna get my hands on the manga if i can. if people are gonna start adapting a manga before its done they should at least find a stopping point and then do consecutive seasons, instead of makign up some abrupt end

either way the direction of the show was amazing! consider me very moved

Call me a crazy psychopath, but I wish they made the Anime a little more gory. The beginning is one of the only cool parts. Then after that is Nana VS Nyu. Other than that, there's not much blood. I even have the uncut DVD version, but maybe I'm just saying this because the manga was 10 times bloodier. Thank God it wasn't in color! =]

At first I thought the Anime would live up to the Manga. Not even close. I thought the ending was an epic fail.

presentation wise i think the anime is vastly superior. its unfortunate that they didnt do multiple seasons so they could follow the manga to the end

Elfen lied is one of those anime's that you must watch at some point in your life. Its an amazing series even if you have to close your eyes because of gore (although i dont know anyone who honestly needs to do that). Great story and concept to elfen lied.

It's cool especially the story and the opening song- Lilium by Kumiko Noma. But mostly ecchi. The violence gets better.

Elfen lied is one of the one that you will either love or hate.

I have yet to meet anyone neutral on it probably due to the intensity of the violence and nudity and slightly difficult plot.

But I loved it.

Well the ending was not really the ending of elfen lied because the manga went waaayyyy past where the anime ended.

I haven't read the manga but it is as long as they say. I think it has 70+ chapters or so.

i'm pretty far into the manga, but havent read it in a long while because i get tired of it. I like the presentation and pacing of the show a lot more. After a while reading the manga felt like a real chore, but thats just me. The gore is also more abundant but not nearly as detailed as the show--and the manga also has more really awkward perverted scenes. Cousin on cousin action? whoo! >=o

Haha. 9 episodes in now. Really enjoying it except for the over abundance of fanservice. I called out of work and am using that time to marathon Elfen Lied.

I like it because it is the type of gore i was looking for in an anime series like the beginning massacre. I was in aww with the animated bloody body parts.
