    Default Books!!! Gothic! Romance! Drama!!!

Hey hey. So, it's summer, and I don't want my head to go dead (haha...rhymed...) so I want to know about everyone's favorite classical books!!! No, I'm not some literature snob who won't read today's books cause I'm old fashioned or some crap like that. I mean seriously, I'm 17. I just want to know about the classics cause it's a lot harder to find the really good classical stuff compared to the stuff right now. I grew up with this modern stuff, so it's not hard to find. So with that out of the way, I am looking for the best Gothic, Romance, Drama, Supernatural, etc. novels you know about. By all means list your favorites and be as biased as you want. I am also looking for the "poetic" stuff like The Illad and stuff from Virgil, Homer, Dante, etc. So it would be great to hear what floats everyone's boats!
To some people, Insanity is Evil. To others, a Tragedy. And to an even deeper group of people, it is a label for the undesirable trash of society. But for me...it's what keeps life interesting...

I generally don't like books from the literary canon. However, there are some that stand out for me. These are the classics that are in my list of favorite books.

-A Tale of Two Cities. by Charles Dickens
    -Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
    -1984 by George Orwell
-The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer (yes, I actually like this >.<)
-The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

    I second 1984. That's a great book.

I don't have much in the way of classics. A Tale of Two Cities is a great story, but I can't stand Dickens' writing style.

Paradise Lost might be a good choice.

    -Of Mice and Men.
-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. (movie has Jack Nicholson, lol)
-The Importance of Being Earnest. (short but funny).
    -Lord of the Flies.
    -The Tell-tale Heart.
-Six Characters in Search of an Author. (a bit weird, but good)
    -Metamorphosis
    -The Death of Ivan Illyich

If you want to read something a more older then check out:
    -The Odyssey
    -Oedipus Rex

Gothic, Romance, Drama = Ethan Frome.

Not my kind of book, but it was well written.

Also an option, yes. but I don't see how either those would fall into the "Gothic, Romance, Drama, Supernatural, etc." parameters of the OP's request. Maybe I'm just uncreative right now.

My favorite semi-classic novel is Gone With The Wind. I generally disliked the books I had to read for school.

Oh the list, but I haven't read for pleasure in a long time.

    -Tale of Two Cities
    -To Kill a Mockingbird
    -Stuff by Edgar Allan Poe
    -Stuff by Franz Kafka

I loved and hated this book so it would depend on your judgement for this one.

    -Moby Dick

I just finished that last night, finally...

Perhaps I'll post more later. I have to read Old Man and the Sea right now.
