How old were you when they told you and how were you told?

I was six years old and my mom and dad sat me and my twin sister down in our living room and told us that although they still loved each other they couldn't live together anymore and that we would go live with mommy.
My dad cried. I will remember that day forever.

Bad Memory

I was approximately 10. It was the summer following 4th grade. My parents had determined to tell us (myself and three siblings) together, but as a final jab my father told us himself. I remember not being terribly surprised, and not even very sad. They fought all the time, so it seemed only natural.

My mother tells me I asked her following the news, "Does this mean I'm going to have a new Daddy?" I had more than one friend with a stepfather >.>

I was about 3 when my parents separated. My dad stayed around for a little while, trying to give me a good father figure. However, he failed utterly when he decided he would rather live with his girlfriend than stay with his daughter. He officially left my life when I was 8. My mother and father are not done with the divorce papers yet, though. My mom started when I was about 13.

Is it hard? Sometimes, but I love my mother, and she acts like both to me. The major bummer about the divorce papers not being finished is the fact that I can't get a passport yet.

My parents split before I was born, but when they found out my mom was pregnant with me, they gave it another shot. I was two or three when it happened, so I had no idea what any of it meant. There was no explination- and I wasn't really hurt since I didn't understand.
I saw my dad on weekends and that's how our buisness went about.

The funny thing is, both my parents are remarried, but my dad married our next door neighbor who used to baby sit me. So she's like a second mom to me since she's known me since I was born.

Does it suck? It only really sucked having my brother live with my dad and leaving me with my mom and stepdad. I still hold a grudge, that he doesn't know about. It's almost sad to think about that. I'm mad at my brother when my parents divorced. Maybe it's because I feel he had the life I wanted, and I feel if I left I would be abandoning my mom- and I don't want that.

About a year ago now my just left my dad with my brother and sister. I was already living alone by then so it didnt affect me too bad. My little sis it did, and my dad so I go visit them more regularly then I did befor.

I was about 3 years old. However, my parents' marriage has always been based off mutual passion for the arts and a friendship, not love, so it wasn't the sort of divorce a lot of people imagine with lots of screaming and door slamming and lawyers and such. My biological parents remain friends to this day.
