What's your job - or what's the job you want to get? Be realistic.
I've worked in stores since high school. My favorite was probably walmart because I sold guns on a daily basis. That was pretty nifty. Then I graduated, and wound up running the night shift at a pharmacy, which was horrible. So I quit. California wasn't working for me, so now I'm in Texas.
I knew when I left NY that I wanted to be a cop. I would have signed up with SFPD, if their budget allowed it, but they're on a freeze. What initially drew me to Texas was - other than the state itself - Dallas PD is always looking for people. But the quite possible happened. I got to Amarillo and liked it here, and decided I don't want to move to the big city just yet.
So I've got an application for the police here, and have to go check out the two local sheriff's offices [Amarillo is in two counties]. The city cops think I should have to live within 500 miles of here for five years, but they gave me an application anyway, even though I told them I was from NY.
Hopefully, they'll overlook that and hire me. I'm qualified...have a degree...and all my records are spotless. I'm here, and want to stay here...
Anyway, working nights in NY, I interacted with the police all the time, and after chatting them up on slow nights, I learned a great deal about their jobs. Sounded like something I'd like to do - not just killing people or beating them with nightsticks, but upholding the laws and protecting people. So I jumped, because there were no nearby opportunities in NY, and I hated that state anyway.
What's your story?
