Well, sometimes it's hard to word a question in an unoffensive manner because people take offense to the slightest things, even when no offense is, or was originally intended. I really dislike being politically correct, but it's usually done to not offend people and to avoid flame wars. I am usually careful about those things.

So I guess yes. Although I try not to get too involved in super-huge debates.

Yes, there are some controversial things I'd like to discuss about but I fear sometimes I might get flamed. I try my best not to offend anyone but there are times when you run into some really sensitive people. They need to understand not to take things so personally and that this is the Internet. Just get used to it.

If a party is easily prone to offense, then they must be faulty, ashamed, afraid or guilty of something, or have something to hide, hence, it is better you deliberately offend them. The only topic I don't care much for is politics, so I don't ask. Most of the time. However when I am curious about a deep subject I just ask. The only people I would ask a question this serious are people I'm very close to in the first place so I just ask it straight. I don't post direct opinions on controversial topics because arguing about it on the internet doesn't get anywhere. Its much more fun in person.

It is fully possible that every sentence or word uttered anywhere can be offensive to SOMEONE. I ask what I please. If people are offended, they're just scared to discuss what NEEDS to be discussed. Many people avoid controversial conversations just because they don't want to sound stupid when they can't come up with a better answer.

I offend people all the time. If they don't like it, they can just leave.

We talking about real life here?

Yes, I do try to word things in a gentle manner. But, I usually fail miserably. Other subjects, I don't even bother.

For instance, religion. When discussing this or another subject it has relevance in, especially in class or a social setting, I just come right out and say, "Since we know there's no "God . . . ". This is an absolute truth for me, and I treat it as such.

Age disparity. Full supporter of Ephebophilia and, in some circumstances, pederastic relationships. This, I try to be very careful. Responses are often emotionally skewed, and I want no part of that.

Personhood. I can't discuss this, period. Not even on the internet. Honestly, if I were forced to - I can't say whether I would lie or not. Even if I were to tone it down, I would offend every single person within a 20 mile radius.

I was apparently absent the day they handed out compassion and the ability to value individual human life. That's not something I can change, so in favor of civility, I just hush up.

Other topics, like the war, assisted suicide, capital punishment - I'll say whatever comes to mind, because they aren't really that contraversial in my eyes.

Or maybe, "Sterilization or Execution: Which is the Preferred Method to Dispose of the Inferior, the Unfit and the Diseased?" It'd be cost analysis and tattered shreds of morality competing for the answer.

I was considering for a while pointing out how socially and politically similar global warming in the western world is to how Lamarckian genetics (specifically in the Soviet Union) and eugenics (again in the western world) were treated, but I eventually realized that if I'm actually right everyone would just holler me down anyway. My point would only become agreeable once the fad died, at which time everyone would agree with me and I wouldn't really be making a great point anymore.
Maybe I should make such a thread anyway, just for laughs.

Other than that, and my comparison of fascism and communism (pay-to-post people might know what I'm talking about) which is planned for my blog, since it's more of a rant than a discussion, I've pulled few punches. This is the Internet, after all, and unless I break laws I'll remain pretty anonymous, realistically.
Other than that, wording only matters for clarity. I don't want to be misunderstood, but if someone gets offended and I'm not being profane or something, then I don't really care all that much.

conundrum: Why ask a question you know will make people not want to answer them anyway? Are you after the reply? Or are you just asking the question simply because you feel the need to? Or maybe you're just after their initial reaction?

The way I see it, if you ask a controversial question, there is a risk the other party won't reply. Why ask it anyway?

Answer: Because it's sometimes nice to watch people squirm.

I had a black guy named Esteban at work one time. I always thought black people and hispanic people didn't get along. Stereotypes, I guess.

One day, after I had gotten to know him I asked about it. His answer was "didn't you know? I'm blackarican!" His mom and dad had gotten along, apparently, but he did say that the stereotype is generally true, and that I was the first person who'd had the cojones to bring it up. It got to be a running joke at work too. Last I knew he was training to be a kickboxer. Cool guy, all around.
