Pokemon Generation 2 Remakes

Nintendo has officially confirmed re-makes of the Generation 2 games, Pokemon Gold and Silver. The re-makes will be titled Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver. They're expected to be out in Japan fall 2009, and internationally in early 2010.


I, for one, am estatic. This has been a long time coming.

I don't think they've gone into detail just yet what, if any, new features there will be.

I am happy to hear this news, I did not think they would make any more Pokemon games where you can be a trainer. I rather enjoyed beating both Gold and Silver. Do you think you will get both or just one, seeing as they're pretty much the same game with different Pokemon that can be caught.

I'll have to see the version exclusive pokemon before I decide which to get, but if they're the same as the originals then definitely Silver for Skarmory, Donphan and Ninetales.

Unlikely. There hasn't been a remake/third version yet that didn't take the original and add in some new feature or gimmick in addition to the current gen's features and gimmicks.

However, since NoJ has just announced it, there's nothing new to speak of.

It's no more silly than having a remake of games like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger years after they've gone out of print. The appeal, aside from "Best Pokemon Generation Ever with updated graphics and a more balanced game" there's also the added somethings they'll no-doubt stick in there. Then there's the kids who like Pokemon now but weren't around or old enough 10 years ago to play it.

The DS is the one console Nintendo actually remains somewhat receptive to its fans for. Then again, handhelds have always been a cesspool of casual games, so we're less likely to complain about having to sift through a wall of Bratz Puppyz Adventurez to find the Professor Laytons and TWEWYs out there.

I'm not enthused enough to pick up one of my sister's rotting DS's and buy this game. My hopes for the franchise died after the pile of suck that was the first generation remakes. The third generation was at least somewhat playable.

I loved the second generation starters, and wild pokemon in general. I hope graphics and the speed of the game are 10x faster, though (not the story of the game). And hopefully they add 'modern' items/key items on these. Like one, running shoes (even though it's not considered item/key item).

My question is still, is this going to be fifth generation or fourth? They remade red and blue (firered and leafgreen) wich remained third generation and not coming out with fourth generation until D/P/P.
