MPD Psycho (lots of gruesome murder scenes done in innovative ways)
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (cute and extremely violent)
Jigoku Shoujo (or "Hell Girl")
Serial Experiments Lain (not bloody or violent, but it's pretty psychedelic)
Paranoia Agent
The End of Evangelion (takes the cake in terms of disturbing imagery)
Paprika
Akira (especially the final scene)

And this isn't anime, but "Happy Tree Friends".

Demon Lord Dante is pretty bad. I mean the fact that there is a massive portrayal of Satan is odd in my eyes. Blue Flames is bad too. Probably the most misogynistic character ever created is in that anime.

YES! Elfen Lied was messed up from the first second. Afro Samarai is pretty violent, but in a cool way I guess lol

I highly un-recommend Full Metal Alchamist. Its animation is horrid,an the plot gives me a bloody headache. x_x. I loved The Big O,and Tenchi Muyo. Dunno if you've seen or heard of them or not.

Elfen Lied. It fits into both categories. Bad anime as in stupid plot/moronic characters and bad anime as in a lot of blood and violence.

Definitely Hiragashi no naku koro ni. I mean, REALLY. The first 30 seconds was like... wow. And it gets worse. Totally freaks out my friend when I tell him about it.
