Cold fusion is pathological science (which is science-speak for "a pipe dream"). It isn't going to happen.

Wormholes are theoretically possible, but last I knew in order to make a stable one you'd need a substance that produced anti-gravity, hence in your lifetime. FTL drives on the other hand are completely incompatible with physics.

It's a festival of headache that works like this: Say you get in your near-FTL rocket, and travel to a distant star a thousand light years away. To anyone outside the rocket, it will take a thousand years. But to everyone inside the rocket, it will take a much shorter time.

Unfortunately, you still need XBOX HUEG amounts of energy to accelerate to speeds where this effect is even measurable, let alone practically useful.

You're probably gonna need both. Any technology even remotely similar to what we use today will decay with time. Tin whiskers and similar phenomena will ruin electronics in a timespan of half a century.

So if we can get it so that a 1000 ly trip takes 20 years, then we can hibernate the passengers (since sitting around and twiddling your thumbs for 20 years is going to send you bonkers) with hopes of the electronics sill working well enough to revive them automagically when they arrive.

I could not begin to imagine a world revolved around such things, I'm afraid to say. This has to be the most impossible of impossible.

That is of course if someone with similar intentions to "The Claw" does not gain tremendous power to make further his intention of making the whole of the world's population have the same kind, flattering, and sensible personality as him.
