Real Life Super Heroes?

I've seen a bunch of news articles and interviews with or about Real Life Superheros. But I wanted to know what is everyone elses take on it. Since Watchmen came out I thought this would be a decent topic.

Are real life superheros good or bad, and of course give some reasons for why you think so.

in my opinion there's no such thing as a hero. just because someone does something that is thought to be "heroic" and the people around them thinks high and mighty of them doesn't give them the title of "hero". really anyone could just go out do something worthy of being called a heroic act thus making them a hero.

By this logic, there are no murderers because all you have to do is to murder someone.

No one should take the law into their own hands. It doesn't make you a superhero, it makes you an idiot who's going to get themselves killed. Or thrown in jail. Either way, lose lose.

NOT a fireman. Run into a building to save someone trapped in a room filled with fire, you're no hero, you're an idiot who's lucky enough to survive the blaze without coming out with 3rd degree burns, assuming he didn't. And will probably come out with something wrong with his lungs.

You see someone get assaulted so you stalk the person and murder them in their home. You're no hero, you'll be looked at as someone no different than the person you killed. You go to jail when you're -eventually- caught.

Or like that robin hood thing, steal from people who don't deserve their stuff and give them to people in need. You're no hero, you're a very strange thief.

Just examples.

Besides it is in no way possible to gain "superpowers" which are what superhero's have.

And if you actually think you're a superhero, dressing up in costume only makes you look like a retard who belongs in the crazy house, or at least needs medication.

Mmm, I like the ones who have used the established tradition of the 'costumed super hero' to draw attention to a worthwhile cause or goal - I guess anything that keeps things like corruption in the public awareness cannot be all bad no?

But people going out and fighting crime... well tbh I dont know. I guess the idea has some appeal, if only because its left over from everyone (well at least mine, but Im extrapolationg...)'s childhood dream of becoming batman, or whoever it was for you

one of these nutjobs comes here and i'm disfiguring my face and becoming a supervillain. all it takes is two accomplices and one important guy's kidnapped family to start with.

The articles were nothing less than... something a little less intense than inspiring for me. But I was happy to see that there are people who do this kind of thing.

Vigilantes or not, whatever their good actions are, these people are still doing good. They could always opt for a citizen's arrest of any would-be bad guys they come across.
