i trusted one of my teachers in my senior year of high school by telling her a problem i was having. And it made my year alot more easy, so it just goes to show you that not all teachers (or other people) are the same.

Lol, my teachers are the best. Sure I don't tell them everything, but they show that they care for me and my studies. I even had a teacher coming to my apartment with food once when I was sick, and the food lasted for the whole weekend.

You just need to watch the actions you do with them.
People could get the wrong idea and think the relationship is more than "student/teacher"
That's why a lot of them don't bother to go out of their way to help students. Even if it's a pat on the back.. People will find that innaproriate.

i trust some of my teachers..they care for us, students..
it shows even though they punish us..their punishing is helping us..sometimes..
but i've never told a teacher my secret, though.
yet i trust most of my teachers who i've known really well...i can tell them things that i can't tell anybody else like our class-teacher or head-master..they really are good!

just saying that not all teachers are same..

If my previous band director were still at my school, I could trust him with anything, really. I don't have a teacher like that anymore, though. I do have one that I could trust, but I really don't have anything to confide in him with.

There's only one staff member at the school that I trust (with issues outside of school work), and that's my band director. Even then, I don't try confiding in her.

Actually, I do trust some of my teachers, specifically my geometry and biology. Mr. Nicola, my math teacher, went through all the trouble and bought a huge bouquet of flowers for me when I got hit by a car, and brought them to my house. He's stayed until 8:00 P.M. with me until I understood my math and then drove me home. I actually do trust him very much.

And then there's my biology teacher, Mr. Higashi. He helped me start my school's GSA, and I watched him practically save one of my friends. He essentially helped him come out to his parents, and he did it brilliantly, in a way that his parents didn't kill him.

My other teachers... not so much. One of them thinks I smoke, do drugs, and have sex.

I've had some brilliant teachers, though none of which I'd ever confide in. No matter how close I am to the teacher, it doesn't matter. There is a boundary between what a relationship a teacher and a student should have. Don't get me wrong, I adore some of my teachers and but there has to be a level of professionalism. It isn't a mentorship program like for the AA, they have school counsellors for a reason (as awful as they can be).

I did not confide in any teachers of mine, which must of been one of the best things I ever did, but I remember it from my friends.
They knew everything and anything.
Gossip also to no end. Imagine them sitting in the teachers' room and discussing- what could they possibly discuss? Right, students.

Now we're granted the right to remain annonymous (to some extent). Who can keep trace of thousands of people you see 2 hours/week anyway?
If I come to think about it- what is more important nowadays? Million-dolar/euro/pound Projects or someone's trust? The ones I saw in action picked the first.

I trust everyone (a really bad habit) so i guess i can't tell you i don't trust my teachers yet then again i never told them anything i didn't think they needed to know

Don't get me wrong, I understand where you are coming from, but saying that teachers should be acting "professional" by not being asked for help in a personal life question is against what they are being teachers for. Teachers are acting parents when you are at school. Students should be able to confide in a teacher because they are supposed to act like a parent away from home. So, students should be able to confide in a teacher. Although, it is very true that not all teachers act this way and some should not be trusted in, but not every teacher is like that.

yeah i trust 2 of my teachers, ive know them all 4 years of high school, they both help me with different problems in my life. in fact both would be going to my wedding

I trust no teacher. There are actually only a few teachers I even respect.

A good teacher is first and foremost just that; a teacher, no more, no less. A teacher who genuinely cares about his students wouldn't go about wantonly divulging the secrets they confide to him to the rest of the world, that's a given.

However, if he decides that notifying the other staff or the student's parents is for the good of the student in the long term, then he may be put in a position where he must tell someone. That's not "telling". In the adult world, that's called being a professional.

Of course, it's hard for a schoolchild to judge a teacher's character, or to understand his position in this respect. So if I were to be cynical, I'd say not telling them in the first place would be the worst best choice. But there are teachers whom you can really trust, and if you think you've found one I'd say take the chance.

While I understand trusting them no more and no less than you would anybody else, the amount of "LOLNO TEECHERZ B SNEEKY" in this thread saddens me.

Yes there are bad teachers. Yes, there are those who just can't keep secrets. So what? You really think all your fellow students aren't a thousand times worse? I can almost guarantee at least one so-called "friend" you know has told people anything embarrassing you've shared with them. If fact, having your peers know your secrets is probably riskier than those in a position of authority in this case, as they probably won't tell other students and if it's something you'd need help with a teacher is in a better position to help you.

If you can't trust your teachers at some level you can't respect them, and if you can't respect them you can't learn from them. Dismissing them all as completely untrustworthy is an easy path to being that guy that loses on Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader. Yeah you might graduate, you might pass tests, but you won't actually learn anything.

Some people warrant trust, and others don't. If I had to make a rule about teachers determining whether you should trust them or not it would be based on what kind of person they are and not whether they are teachers or not.

That being said, from a professional standpoint you shouldn't be telling them secrets that are harmful to your 'Highschool career' and neither should they be telling you anything that pertains to your grades.

When I was in highschool I didn't trust my teachers (or anyone for that matter) enough to tell them my secrets. It had something to do with the times maybe or just the way that I felt. My parents kept telling me about social services when I acted up in class. I guess I started highschool in fear of change, and ended it not caring about anything or anyone. Either way I didn't think telling someone secrets was a good idea.

I totally agree with not telling teachers your secrets. For one, then they won't be secret anymore. Two, they could tell the Guidance Office and they would have to interrogate you to find out if you're depressed or whatnot. It's happened to me. I should know.

I agree with the ideas in this post. Some teachers are actually trustworthy. Peoples' personalities are different, just because they're teachers doesn't automatically make them untrustworthy.
