Default Dose any one lift weights or just work out in general?

This is my very first post, and I do not believe any one has posted one quite like it.

Dose any one enjoy working out? Can range from any thing you like, from jogging to power lifting and any thing in between.

Also why do you do what you do?
Do you work out for your general health and well being?
Do you work out for strength and conditioning purposes?
Or maybe all of the above? For sports you are involved in, lifting competitions and meets.

As for me, I am a work horse in my garage. I own a power cage with which I use for benching and squats with my barbell, dead lifts outside of that. With those exercises I am doing very well, I believe in lifting very heavy and for few reps and many sets. My latest personal records with poundage, I recorded these in my last entry that went over the weekend. Now these are my ONE REP MAX achievements, I will state the 1RPM stats first, then what I do for reps on an average day.

    1RPM
    Squat: 755lbs

    Bench: 500lbs

    Deadlift: 800lbs
    ________________

    Average numbers.

    Squat: 550-600lbs

    Bench: 400lbs-425lbs

    Deadlift: 500-550lbs

I also work out with Russian Kettlebells, I think I could give up the barbell work outs and nearly maintain what I have with just these tools. They are the most effective thing I have ever come across, EXTREMELY FUN and EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE.

In case you are wondering what exactly a Kettlebell is, here is a link to further elaborate.

    http://www.russiankettlebells.com/index2.html

I look to become a Russian Kettlebell instructor some day when I can attend the seminar to gain my certification.

Uh... no. This is the internets. How are you to work out if you live in your parents' basement?

Seriously though: I lift beer bottles to my mouth. I used to also lift cigarettes to my mouth, but it was so exerting that I stopped.

Heheh there is always a way.

I like my beer as well, and have yet to kick my smoking habit which isn't a good thing because I would rather quit smoking it's detrimental to my goals.

I do, but only casually and not nearly as often as I'd like due to my school and work schedules. I don't keep track of the weights I lift as they're rather light anyway. XD

I guess this is at least semi-related to the subject (if you extend working out to being healthy): I accidentally quit smoking when I had the flu. I was too weak to smoke (and it would probably not have been a very good idea irregardless.) So when I got better, the addiction was so weak there was very little effort in breaking it.

If you count biking as a workout, then yes. I also have to move my fingers and wrists to be on this site posting, so that's a workout, too.

Sig and avvie set by the wonderfully talented and amazing Bou. <3

Featuring the laptop I always used to complain and talk about in chat.

I may not use it anymore, but I still have it!

I use small weights. Usually handweights. I lost about 50~65 pounds in about a year (I started last feb.) with a combination of walking, aerobics, jogging, foods rich in protein and low in fat and sat. fat, alot of water, and I also cut out alot of unhealthy carbs, sweets and other foods.

I also went to the gym 3 days a week and had a personal trainer / nutritionist (I don't have a trainer anymore because it became too expensive with school, but I do alot on my own now, anyway.) I only usually eat whole wheat or whole grain breads, or rye, no white.

I don't like greasy/fried/oily foods, and the only "fast" food I usually eat is subway. I usually drink mostly water and flavored water. I don't usually drink soda, and the only caffeine I consume is coffee with a couple creams and no sugar (in the morning.)

But i've had weight issues all my life, so it has been a significant improvement for my health and well being in general.

It's hard between work and classes, but during breaks I usually try to get walks in. Plus, I don't drive, so I walk pretty much anywhere I can (if it isn't too far.)

PS: I can't rep you now, so thankyou for your rep comments, Cannon! =)

Well just about anything counts really, a lot of people in the USA and abroad have grown complacent and out of shape. Physical activity with consistency is great, weather it be riding your bike walking or weight lifting. The main goal is getting your hart rate up and working your cardiovascular system going, anything that dose that will massively help. Not to mention if you are feeling tired and crappy a lot, a walk or a bike ride will give you energy and will make you feel a lot better.

Drinking at the least 1 liter of water a day will also make a world of difference, many many people these days complain of headaches and other minor...later serious ailments. And the cause? Simple dehydration is a major contributor, sodas and pop contain mostly sugars and other additives so their moisture content is negligible. So a liter a day of water will do wonders, I myself consume up to 2 liters a day or more depending on my physical exertion that day.

Yea, water is always best. I try to tell that to my dad who thinks diet soda is better than water, which is absolutely isn't -- it's slightly better than regular soda, but it will also dehydrate you if you drink it too often, and isn't a replacement for water.

Usually, if you're bored with the 'plain' taste of water, you can try adding lemon or low-calorie fruit mixes that you simply add to water, to make them taste better, but usually regular water is good enough for me.

I don't workout everyday, but I try to get at least a bit of activity each day, and that includes walking the extra mile, usually to the store or class, taking stairs instead of the elevator (unless i'm late, because the elevator is much faster, hah), and other things.

I occasionally lift dumbbells, but now that my weight bench is put together, I can bench press. I'll also run/walk if it is convenient.

    Ahhh the other girevik!

I've been doing the yo-yo for a long, long time now. I will get into a lifting phase, then cardio phase, make gains in both, then lose it for whatever reason (motivation, injury, switch to other program etc). Been hard to drop my bodyfat to what I want it to be (far too high right now to be honest).

Not too long ago, I had a serious look at myself and decided that my body type and frame is simply geared towards size/mass/strength. I will never be the thin Jonny six-pack in an A&F commercial, but my body is geared more towards becoming the big football player/walking door type. Now that I've accepted that, I am doing intense weight training geared towards strength and mass. I do kettlebells to maintain explosiveness and fast twitch but to be honest, I am having a hard time fitting them in.

I won't bother to post my poundages, they've become far too low and it will take some time to build them back up.

My question to you Cannon would be hearing your schedule - how do you mix weights and KB without one interfering with the other? Ideally I would like to weight lift, run and use KB. When I try to make things fit though, it just doesn't add up and becomes unrealistic real quick.

It is fairly simple comrade Sagat! (Sorry I at times find it amusing to use the term Comrade, it is fun.)

For me...I will "mix" them. It is not THAT you mix them, it is HOW you mix them. Verity is the death of any training regimen, but it is also it's saving grace at the same time. Here is how I do it.

For one month, I will fill out a sheet that includes...implements that I will use for the month, realistic goals for each. Say for one moth, I will work strictly with Kettlebells with a set list of exercises. Mainly a pull and a press, Swings, Turkish Get Ups, Military Presses/Clean and Press etc and Snatches.

My last month of Kettlebell scheduled looked like this for a typical week.

    Monday: Medium Presses, Pulls.
    Tuesday: Variety
    Wednesday: Off
    Thursday: Heavy Presses and Pulls
    Friday: Light Presses and Pulls
    Saturday: Off
    Sunday: Variety

And normally at the end of every Kettlebell month I will perform the USSS 10 minute Snatch test. Which in the last few I have compleated, the last CSSS test I managed with a 2 pood (32kg) x 203 (PR). Which I am looking to get it up to at the very least 250 in 10 minutes with the 32kg bell, before I move up to my brand new set of 44kg bells.

So there you have my KB work for a month, minus the details of rungs ladders and so on.

The next month I will move to my barbell, plates, cage and bench for a full month isolated. I for the most part follow a PTTP regime, dead lifts, side press', floor press etc. But I also work in squats as well, thus the cage. The cage serves multiple purposes, I am a loan lifter and have no spotters so if you goof you wont get smashed like a bug.

Hope this helped a bit, pm me if you would like to go into detail etc.

And remember...When we say "Strength," We mean "Kettlebell." When we say "Kettlebell," we mean "Strength."

Kettlebell? So that's what those things are called. I have seen a few people use them for Air Force training and I even used one to train for the shot put but I did not know what it was called (you learn something everyday...).

Let's see...I do work out...all the time. The Air Force kinda makes me do it. I have to do their training (twice a week) but then I will work out on my own between those days. I enjoy anything that will get my heart pumping, so I like running, biking, martial arts, soccer etc (although, I will admit that there are some days when I do not want to train once I realize that my alarm is going off at 5:00am).

I am technically overweight at 205 lbs, however, its mostly because I have bulking up for Judo. A few of the other girls I train with hate the idea of gaining weight by working out but I actually like the fact that my muscles are defined and that I look like someone who can beat you up.
    This is my war face.

This is what happens to trolls who mess with me.

Weight because of muscle is very different than weight because of fat stores.
A strong woman is better off in the long run than say, a gangly weak one.

For me I am at 6ft 220lbs, I am probably at a %15 body fat which isn't my goal but I am going onto a diet called the Warrior diet soon and I think that will help a great deal.

Eris I'm starting to think that you basement dwellers are better than us attic dwellers. You're being a floorist. (Not to be confused with florists)

I only do excercise when I feel like it, and that's about twice a week. I just watch what I eat.

Interesting, you go back and forth between KB and weights per month eh? Do you think its possible to mix KB and weights into one week? I have wednesday and sunday as my rest days, I wanted to put KB on those days but well, right now I am just beat from the last two days (I work out at 0630 and again around 1930). In the am I just do 35 minutes of cardio, maybe I should turn that into KB?

Would you think that would be overtraining perhaps?

PTTP, excellent book. I often thought about his isometric writings and ideas and how I could work them in. The thought of lifting those "limiters" are very tempting - thoughts?

I do occasionally. During my martial arts and gym class, and sometimes biking. I'm still extremely unhealthy, though, due to my smoking habits that I've tried quite unsuccessfully to quit. And drinking whenever offered by someone. I try to watch what I eat as well, but it never seems to work out. I took a quiz once out of boredom. I was the deadly sin of gluttony.

I exercise about 2-3 times a week, I have a gym membership. I also lift weights, and the weight I lift is over 9000. I usually just stay in shape by watching what I eat, though.
