Do you believe that 2012 will happen?

They say that the world will end in 2012, I say it won't happen because they have predicted the end of the world millions of times and nothing. But my friends have been giving me all this evidence that it will in fact happen. I personally don't believe it will happen. But I want to know what you think. Will the world end in 2012?

No it will not. It does not even make sense that it will, we'll have to see but the chances of it happening are slim, actually none. I am 100% sure that the world will not end.

The Mayan long count calendar ends Dec 21, 2012 right? Our calendar ends December 31 every year, and nothing happens. Maybe their 13.0.0.0.0 (the end of the Mayan calendar) is our Dec 31st? I'm no expert though; does anyone know how their calendar works?

Even if there was evidence for the end of the world, an ancient civilization saying something doesn't make it true. Hopefully on Dec 20, 2012 some fool will come up to me and give me all his money.

Well yes, the year 2012 will happen. The little doomsday thing won't happen. The Mayan calendar is indeed more accurate than our traditional Gregorian calendar, and Mayans were the most skilled astronomers of the time, but they never actually said that the world will end. Their calender simply ends its cycle in 2012.

Well anyway, I don't think the "end" will come so immediately. I mean, it's not going to turn 2012 and be like BAM! The end of the world. If anything, it will be a gradual decrease. But who knows? I can already see the world declining, at least America... with the economic crisis and all. Plus the World Wars we've had.

Maybe this "end" will be good for all of us somehow...

There's no scientific indication that the world will end in 2012. Depending on what theory you subscribe to, one could argue for any Earth ending date. Christians are told in the Bible there will be a second coming of Jesus but we don't know the time. So we should not speculate. As for global warming it is occurring, but I feel it will be many years before we kill ourselves with that. Those who believe an asteriod will hit the Earth, scientists tell us an asteroid large enough to destroy the Earth is not within any orbit to collide within the next thirty years. Finally Nostradamus's predictions are so vague you could choose any date and argue for it. People have been predicting the end of the world since there were people.

I agree if the world is going to end is going to be a slow down fall. We ca already see it happening. There are more wars all over the world now then any time in history, I do feel we will be the death of our selves.

And really i think we need a good "End" I'm not religious one bit but. People as a whole are to messed up, were like a disease.

I don't believe in it. Remember the year 2000? People were so worried about that year, and the world is still around. The world never ended then, so why should it be believed that the world will end in 2012?

Oh, and my theory with the Mayan-calender-ending-at-2012-thing is that the Mayan people got tired of writing so many years, so they just decided to stop there. : D

Also, just because scientists say something makes it true? Does the bible saying Jesus can turn water into wine make it true? Let's avoid that subject for now, but all I'm saying is that you can't put your faith in something just because a "scientist" said it.

For all the nutters who say there is more war now than any time in history, obviously never really studied history. It's just nowadays we have better weapons that can destroy more than just the "enemy".
As to the Mayan calendar, I'm of the mind that they reached a certain point and said, "that should be good enough" and might very well have updated at a later date, but due to the European conquests of the "new" world, they just never had the time. =p
Which just goes to show, never put off to tomorrow what could be done today.
