so Ya I was just wondering What people thought about the 2010 world cup outside south africa (ya i live there )and if you will be going to south africa when it happens and what your expectation are ?

I don't which team will win, but I expect it will finish the same way everything does in freaking South Africa, a large riot, a few civil wars, machete wielding poorly dressed "militiamen" everywhere, and those that went to see the soccer game will be fortunate to escape with their lives (or limbs).

Remember, that pointy looking thing you see someone aiming towards the sky in the crowd is not fireworks.

Really? I thought most Americans were obsessed with watching football. I agree, though. But not with soccer.

The only sport I'd ever watch is soccer. Fifa World Cup to be specific. It's really interesting and entertaining. You have no idea how important that is to the whole world. But of course, you guys in US wouldn't know. It's just like the Olympics. Ahhh the competition between countries. I can't wait for the upcoming one. Of course I won't be going there. I'm not obsessed with it like many people are. I'll be following every game on TV or online.

I have no idea why, but I've always cheered for the German team. And I have always hated Brazil and recently hated Italy. There are reasons for me hating the latest two but I don't recall what.

EDIT: Sorry, teed, for the one-word post. I know the rules. I had originally posted my opinion about not knowing what the Fifa was, but when I edited this post, it didn't show up. DARN INTERNET. Also, as a side note, I don't see how a one word post could waste someone's time. How long does it take to read it? A quarter of a second? I believe that the problem with one-word posts is that they waste room, not necessarily time.

It's going to be fantastic, no doubt about it. Some guys in my class are going, but I won't be able to. The enegy will be immense, I'm sure; I'll never forget waking up in Moscow last year to the chants of "Roo-See-Uh!" when Russia won a big game. I'll be watching for sure.

I wish i could go to south America. I am a huge Soccer (football) fan. Being that i was born in Manchester. And WHEN England makes it to this world cup i am really contemplating going. I know its cutting it close but i would really like to go.

This happens all the time in latin america. It really angers me when they get to this point because they make latinos look like barbarians. I bet I can turn on the news right now, and I'll see some riot happening somewhere over there.

Forgetting for a second that this is the Internets; to those who are speaking of actual wars within the country, I would, you know, like to see an at least fairly reliable source before you assert something so extreme.

Anyhow. I don't care for sports myself, probably because I've never outgrown my junior high school Ressentiment towards athletic activities in general, but everyone in Japan gets so hyped up about the World Cup that I can't help watching every once in a while (sometimes I even enjoy myself).

And speaking of South Africa, my younger brother was actually born in Cape Town, South Africa. We lived somewhere more up north (in what used to be Rhodesia), but my mother traveled all the way to Cape Town by car to give birth because it was the only city with an hospital she could trust. Remarkable woman, no?
