J-Rock/Visual Kei
For those into Japanese rock or metal will be familia with the awesome colths they wear and the kick *** hair they have.
I tried it myself and, aye, it looks alrite.
Search up Visual Kei in google images and you'll know what I mean.
Then come back and tell me if you agree or disagree that.

Actually Visual Kei is pretty dull. They suck live because they rely on their look, not their actually playing style. There are some good ones, but rarely they're any good.
i agree with you to some extent a lot of the band lack in the performance department, but there are some really good ones. you just have to take a side step away from the fangirls

I was thinking more along the lines of SuG. While they're not the best live (according to fans) they do what they can for the fans.

GazettE is both good live and studio. Visual Kei is just what they look like. There music says more than "look at me", they have passion.
Japanese rock =/= Visual-kei. Visual-kei is, at best, a sub-genre of it. If you think all rock bands in Japan dress like that, stop being some dumb-as-crap japanophile and come out from under the 2D-animated rock under which you live.
Most (and by most, I mean pretty much every last one of them) suck. They can barely play music, have poor lyrics, and rely solely on the 10-hours worth of make-up and clothes they wear in order to further the lucrative career they try to pass of as being "musicians". And this is nothing to say about how awful they are "live". They don't even have V-kei bands at rock festivals.
They all sound the same, and overall have no redeeming qualities. They're all basically Britney Spears, only with freaky make-up and frillier clothes. There's a reason they aren't even popular in Japan...with the exception of some much older groups from the 80s and early 90s (pierrot, GLAY, X Japan, Malice Mizer, Luna Sea, etc.). V-kei saw it's hayday in the 90s, and has since faded to being pretty much null, with a minor resurgance in the last few years. Go look at Japanese charts if you want proof. You'll probably only find some GLAY, maybe some Miyavi or or older Gackt, and X Japan. Their biggest fanbase is probably the over-seas anime fans (Germany apparently has a big V-kei fanbase) who only clamor over them because they are Japanese.
If, by some chance you haven't noticed by now, I hate visual-kei.

I cant fully agree with everything that you say. Altho, you must remember its a sub-culture. You dont have to like it but, I tell you now, theres a large amount of people that does.
Gackt is good I have to agree on that.

It's not a sub-culture. It's a genre of music. Just like Glam Rock was. They're essentially the same thing, but with a different look.

You know, their are bands that look + sound good aswell. That relove around the "genre" of Visual Kei.

Visual-kei was inspired by American and UK Glam Rock and City Pop. It came about in the early 80s, generally recognized as being started by X Japan, Color, and D'erlanger.
The term "Visual-kei" itself comes from a term that an X Japan member, I believe Yoshiki Hayashi, used to describe their style of dress.

Theme used to discribe a type of J-Rock that invloves heavy make up( mainly eye shadow ) and negitive abstract fashion.

I hope you don't assume that because i like visual kei i know nothing of other j-rock genres, If so please come out from under that "2D-animated rock under which you live".
You don't like people having narrow minds when its comes to the type of music we listen to, so please don't be so narrow minded when judging us. I like many more non Visual kei bands then I do Visual Kei bands.They just fascinate me. Do you enjoy coming on to a thread about Visual Kei and Insulting the people there that do like it? Please don't be so ignorant.
My major music selection consists of classic rock, And 90's j-punk, but I do like many Visual Kei band. So before you come to some generalization about what you think the people who like Visual Kei are like, and what you think the genre is like, Shut up and start your own thread about how you Hate Visual Kei this way you can get to talk with people who also hate it, and not try to start arguments or insult people who do.

Well, this thread was originaly design to give Visual Kei and J-Rock positive feed back and post images to show, recognize the existance of it within the Japanese music culture. So Akito has a point.
Although, verry good point was made by both of you.
I never said "everyone who likes visual kei", now did I? I made the point of adding "If you..." to address a specific audience, which you must at some point acknowledge exists. Please come down off your moral high-horse. It's also very easy to generalize what a genre is like, because a genre is a generalization. Notice the similarity between the two words. Just because I have a negative opinion on something you like, does not mean you have to try and vilify me.
And this thread is about Visual Kei. One can have a good opinion or a bad opinion about it, and still post here. A forum exists for the expression of opinions and public discourse. I have a negative opinion about the genre, and I am as free to express that as anyone else is free to express their opinion on the genre. I did not attempt to shoot down anyone else's opinion of them, even though my opinion conflicts with them. The only "arguement" here was over the origin of Visual Kei.

Thats right the Genre is similar to generalization, but the the word genre when talking about music is to generalize the music not the people.
But you are right any one can post their opinion in this forum and i am sorry for telling you to leave.
It's just very frustrating to come to a topic were you have a common intrest with the people in it, and to have it bashed and ridiculed,
I guess what i'm getting at is you can hate the music and the bands as much as you like, but please don't generalize the fans that like it and put them in some narrow minded category.

Haha. Starting out with J-music, I was all for the visual scene. When reliving my love for older European acts and some good newer bands, I've come to realize that many of the visual bands I once enjoyed I no longer did. Due to either extreme similarities or plain not good. Perhaps I was under the impression of, "zomg nippon!!!11!" but whatever.
I don't listen to much visual-kei anymore. The ones I really listen to is X Japan, Malice Mizer, Amadeus, Buck-Tick, Siam Shade, and Schwarz Stein/Hora.
As for the rock portion, since this topic is called "J-rock/visual kei," I listen to more along the lines of L'Arc~en~Ciel (don't start with the "visual-kei" stuff, either. They dropped the label), Akeboshi, Beat Crusaders, Envy, the Seatbelts, Oreskaband, and the Black Mages.
Xero not every band is terrible. This is a random percentage but I have to say 90% of them are terrible. Just like most Death Metal bands are terrible, Visual Kei is no exception.
But true most Visual Kei is terrible. The whole idea of making your self look feminine is pretty stupid, hence why I never see the videos.
As much as some of you guys hate the idea of chucking on ga huge amount of make up, appart from " looking good ".
I see it as a form of art. Hair also, you really have to have the right colours.
Noticed that people like the colour black and white. But hey! Why dont they make their hair black and white?! Well sure it mite look alrite but theres no shade and puls, people will start calling you skunk man.
Im as equaly interested in their music. I mean, I hate Rap/Hip hop, that! Sounds all the same!
