Are you an Optimist or a Pessimist, or rather a Realist?

Every people in this world have different types of personality, different natures of behaviour, different tones of speech and different points of ideals. However, basically you can categorize yourself into one of these three categories: an optimist, a pessimist, a realist.

Let's start with the basic meaning of these three terms:
Optimist: An optimist is someone who is hopeful about the future.
Pessimist: A pessimist is someone who thinks that bad things are going to happen.
Realist: A realist is someone who regonizes and accepts the true nature of a situation and tries to deal with it in a practical way.

There's a saying:" A pessimist complains about the wind, an optimist hopes it to change, and a realist adjusts the sails."

So, what do you consider yourself to be:
an Optimist, a Pessimist, or rather a Realist?

I consider myself as a realist. I try my best to make best out of any situation without thinking much of hope or regret. However, though sometimes I couldn't help but feel optimistic and be hopeful of things to get even better. But in the end, my feelings of realism undermines such momentary feelings of optimism. So, I categorize myself as a realist.

It really depends on the situation but in general you would probably classify me as a realist

an optimist, and a realist i guess, realist will do something about the situation but that doesn't mean it will change for the better, you have to be optimistic that the decision you made was the right one

I would have to say an optimist. I always see the good side of things, but sometimes it builds me up to be let down.

Right now I am a pessimist. *sighs* Usually I'm between pessimist and realist but right now I don't expect anything good happening, mainly because of my exams. Only two more classes to go. Engh... APUSH...

I'm more of an optimist. Because I like looking at the brighter side of life. Normally I'm the one who says "Hey, my cup is only half full" Lol.

Hmm. I once saw a "inspirational" calendar in my local store that said:

"When people call themselves realists, they are lying to themselves. They are only being negative."

I'm not sure if that is true or not. I think it's possible to be realistic without being negative.

I would consider myself a realistic person (I do prefer a 'realistic' view of things), but that doesn't mean I don't ever have a have pessimistic attitude sometimes. I do however, believe that your attitude or 'outlook' on things dictates mostly how you feel and where you get in life.

On the other hand, i've been mostly optimistic lately. So, I suppose I can be all, at varying times.

Everyone's an optimist when things are bad, and being a pessimist is the philosophical equivalent of cutting yourself. And we're all realists at some point or another, when we're better at something than someone else, like adjusting sails.

The question is, what do we do when we're alone in a cold dark room faced with our own mortality. If you've had a near-death experience, I think you can safely claim whether you are an optimist, pessimist, or realist.

btw, Black man from House is a pessimist :3

Optimist.

While I have a general attitude that the world sucks, and is unfair, and I hate a lot of things, I always feel that I'll be able to pull out ahead and be happy.

That isn't nihilistic at all. A nihilist wouldn't be upset by the fact that the world is pointless. Being upset is equally pointless to a nihilist.

Realistic most of the times, but sometimes i do expect the worse,and get pessimistic, and sometimes refuse to accept anything else but optimism xD

I'm am an optimist but a borderline realist . there are things that just have to be thought of as a realist and the majority sees me being an optimist.
