I just reserved a copy of Street Fighter IV, today (mainly because i wont be around the day it comes out). And i just wanted to see if any one else is totally excited for it. Or if you hate Street fighter. let me hear your opinions.

And yeah I preordered the Collector's Edition. $20 more for a Blu-Ray movie, Action Figure, Soundtrack, Hint Book, and 5 exclusive costumes

Sigh. I have tried many times to get into street fighter, and see what people love about it, but I fail every time, and SF4 looks like the worst of all. From what I've seen, which is a lot, since it is everywhere, looks like a child's game. The game play looks weak, the characters look lame, the graphics aren't anything special, and the way the characters move in this new "3d slash 2d" style looks absolutely ridiculous. I know that it is one of the most successful franchises out there, and of course, it has the Street Fighter name on it, so you know it will do well, but as hard as I try, I have yet to find anything good about it.

It's one of the few fighters that actually take skill to master rather than random button mashing and Street Fighter 2 pretty much set the standard for all fighting games that came after it.

I don't believe that to be true though. Sure it was one of the first, and it made a big impact on everyone, but when I first played it, many years ago, I didn't like it even then, when it was the cutting edge. I just can't see what is so great about it, not to make any less of anyone who likes it.

I'm looking forward to it. I'll get the PS3 version more than likely. I'm still not that crazy about the art direction, but as long as it's good I'll get over it.

I that Capcom should have given some characters different default outfits this time around. Like Sakura. She was a school girl. I get it..But that was back in Alpha/Zero. Which was before Street Fighter 2 and we're now after SF2. The took a chance doing that with Chun Li back in Alpha. SNK even did it with Terry in the KOF series. I just think it'd be cool if another classic Street Fighter character got a make over.

Street Fighter IV is just another way to prolong Street Fighter II's lifespan without having to provide much in the way of legitimate new content. I actually LIKED Street Fighter III. A lot. I don't need a II remake. I want an installment taking place after III and introducing new characters while implementinga few old favorites. Not everyone from Street Fighter II with a few new characters.

It's not a remake. It's a prequel to three. As for you're complaint that it isn't a sequal... you do know that we're talking about Street Fighter? The fighting genre has such low standards for storyline that it's sufficently amazing that they've even talked about it as part of their hype-machine. Nobody really cares outside of fanfiction writers.

I don't WANT a prequel to III. The entire series is so based on giving us the same damn thing over and over that I just want something NEW. I hate that Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III (not matter how much I like it) would constantly get updates rather than legitimate new installments. All this sounds like to me is just another II update with fresh paint.

The chunks of legitimately new content (the characters, gameplay, graphic styles) seem few and far between in terms of how good they look. Not particularly fond of many of the characters (although Crimson Viper looks badass) and I'm wondering why the new gameplay had to be supported with a SFII spine.

Of course, you DO know that the gameplay takes elements from II, parts from III, and adds original bits to the mix. To hand-wave this fact and say it's a remake of II is dishonest at best. Yes, the character design is similar. Yes the level design is similar. But frankly, if you've established a fighting series as iconic and popular as SF you are allowed to play on nostalgia as long as you aren't making a clone and throwing it in new clothes (Unless you're honest about it, like with Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix).

Of course not, nobody played the game and with the rare exceptions to that rule nobody cared. To call SF1 a game that had fans would be a massive overstatement- at best it had owners, at worst it had victims. When you've firmly established that you are producing absolutely nothing anyone wants, changes are clearly needed.

This is a story that establishes that Blanka gained his greenness and electrical powers from, depending on your source, either being struck by lightning or simply from living in the jungle all the time. No one can appreciate the story without first ingesting near-lethal amounts of hallucinogens. That isn't even going into Spicy Curry-Based Pyrokinesis (which, thankfully has been retconed).

Last street fighter I played was SF2 Championship edition for genesis. Guess I lost my love of fighting games as the only one I've played in years has been Soul Caliber (2 and 4), or the mortal kombat trilogy for n64 lol.

They didn't merge. King of Fighters was an SNK all-stars kind of game. Fatal Fury got a few more installments after KOF was started and Art of Fighting got one.

I've always liked the street fighter games more than mortal kombat. They were always more fun to play, and I loved the music. Chun-li was always my favorite.

The last street fighter I played was on the SNES; I don't usually play fighting games though. I'd want to try the new one out if I had the chance. =)
