Default Fullmetal Alchemist Fanfiction: I Believe in Angels [part 1

I know for a fact there are a few spelling mistakes but my computer is doing something strange and has a hard time finding them at the moment. Comments and criticism would be great. Thank you! ^^

Flashback * These events began to occur when I was 9 years of age. It all started one dark night; I was watching the rain, feeling miserable of what happened the night before. I layed in my bed drifting in and out of slumber. As I finally fell asleep, two strong hands grabbed me, I felt a piece of clothing cover my mouth and eyes, I blacked out still hearing a sweet and gentle voice. That morning I awoke to find strange markings on my hands. I shrieked, my father entered my room with a concerned look and approched my bed with caution. * end of flashback *
Now, that I am 15 years of age, I feel deprived of freedom and liberty. I’ve always wanted a life filled with adventure and excitement but my father disapproved of ever leaving this town. He was scared that I would never return. It was a beautiful day, I decided to have a short nap near a tree. I woke up in surprise to find Sumi, my fox lying right beside me. Then, Rei appeared.
“ Hey! Kasumi! I finally found you!” His smile was filled with joy.
“ Hey Rei…..” I pretended to be overjoyed to see him.
“What took you so long, I was waiting for you!”
“ Sorry I was busy….” I replied as I looked at the ground.
    “ Doing what?”
“Nothing that should concern you. I just want to be alone….” I stood up and walk away, leaving Rei standing alone, baffled. As I left Rei, I felt a bit confused about how my life became a mess. That night I had bad pain in my back, my father called the doctor. I listened through a small crack in the door. But all I could hear was “come as quick as possible”. His voiced had a concerned and disappointed tone.
Once the doctor arrived, my father escorted him to my bedroom. The door creaked as they opened it. My father left, leaving me alone with this stranger. The doctor approached, he ordered me to sit as he examined my back. That’s when he noticed something.
“A symbol? Quite strange, I have never seen this before.” As the doctor touched it, a bright light shined and a pair of wings immerged.
“ Oh my!” He backed away, in case another unexpected phenomena would occur. My father ran up the stairs frantically, only to see feathers scattered before the door. As he anxiously opened the door, he noticed the doctor stared in shock.
“ What's the problem doctor?” As the doctor turned his head, my father read his expression and it made him uneasy.
“ This is rare, I have never seen this…. did you put an alchemy symbol on her back?” My father was now outraged and snapped.
“HOW OBSURD!!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT SYMBOL IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE!!!” The doctor stood up, disappointed by his reply and puzzled by the symbol.
“ Ok then, all she will be needing is a little bit of rest, which should be good.” He sighed in relief.
“ Thank you doctor.” The next day, I awoke, only to find feathers dispersed around my bed and just outside the door. Last night was another mystery I had yet to solve. Then, I thought about my father, perhaps he would know what had happened the night before. I dressed into warm clothing, as it was very cold inside the house. The silence inside the house, created an awkward atmosphere. Then, I noticed the door to the basement was open. Carefully and silently, I walked down the stairs, making sure not to stir whoever was down there. As I reached the base of the stairs, my father slept quietly on his desk. I approached his desk, avoiding all the papers scattered amongst the floor and desk. After getting a glimpse of the papers, I noticed some had symbols written on them. They appeared to be transmutation circles. By accident, I stepped on a sheet of paper and awoke my father. He awoke in surprise.
“ Kasumi! What are you doing here?! You shouldn't be here while I'm doing my research!!” I leaned forward to see the other sheets of paper on his desk.
“ Father what are you researching?” He sighed and rubbed his face, fatigue had done a number on his complexion.
“ I'm researching on special symbols, those that have been imbedded on your hands and back.” So many mysteries shrouded the symbols that have been embedded on my flesh. But, I looked forward to discovering and solving its secrets.
“ What are the symbols used for?”
“ Their used to invoke alchemy.” Well, that was quite a quick reply I thought.
“By tomorrow, Kasumi, I want you too study and practice alchemy.” I raised my brow, baffled and astounded to hear such news.
    “ Okay.”
As days passed, I read and practiced alchemy. As I continued, my father was amazed at how much I progressed. That day changed my life. My father finally began to accept my dream for becoming a well-known state alchemist. Then, my father fell ill. The doctor said he had an incurable disease, he couldn't do anything. I sat near his bedside, soon to be his deathbed.
“ Kasumi, I know I rejected your dream of becoming a state alchemist but I know now, that you are capable of succeeding. I only wanted to protect you because you were all I had.” Tears rolled down my cheeks, like a glittering river. He smiled, I knew it would be his last smile he would wear upon his face.
“ My cherished daughter, be quick and fetch me a map.” I rushed to the basement. Once I reached the end of the stairs, I searched the shelves. After finding the right map of the area, I ran back to see my dieing father. It was a race against time, I had to hear my father’s final words. I sat where I was earlier. I unfolded the map and placed it on the bed. He pointed out the directions, with his cold and shaking hands.
“ We are currently far West. Central is where you must take the exam. I know you will make me proud.” He coughed then, reached for his dresser’s top drawer. Inside, was a deep blue stone, which shined like silver in the light. He handed the stone to me but I held onto his hand, with the stone inside.
“ Here, take this with you. It was once your mother’s and now it is yours. Guard it with your life and do not let it fall into the wrong hands.” He coughed and gasped for air then, he suddenly stopped. Tears now streamed down like a waterfall. The doctor covered my father face with a white sheet.
“Kasumi, I know this will be a burden. But I will take care of everything from here.” My eyes, now red from shedding sorrowful tears, stared into his eyes.
“Thank you for all you’ve done. But I’m afraid my words cannot express my gratitude. I do regret that, my life was saved but his was not.” He walked towards me, patted my shoulder and whispered.
“Doctors can only do so much. And it was his time, but you are a young soul, you have not lived life to the fullest.” He left, his words inspired me to continue on. I clutched the stone, with my shaking, warm hands. My father’s last words were more of a warning than his last goodbyes. But I took his warning seriously. It was very mysterious, “do not let it fall into the wrong hands”. Perhaps, this stone held a secret, a secret so dark, it could destroy and annihilate all civilization off the planet. The perfect place to find all my answers, was right below my feet, in my father’s basement. I began to search and read every book, paper, and file, anything that was left at my disposal. Hours of reading, and I had only information and none of it was connected too the symbols. Then, I came upon a black book. A title less book, nothing written on the cover, no picture. When I opened the unknown book, detailed pictures and writing filled its once empty pages. My intuition sparked, this book had my answers but it would take days to decipher it. I cleaned and arranged the sheets of paper neatly on the desk. Then, I fumbled and stumbled over books, which I would soon place into its rightful place on the shelves where they once were. After the basement was cleaned, I placed the stack of papers beside the wooden furniture, to create a working space on the desk. I unfolded the map and outlined the shortest route to take to Central However, I thought about the time and duration of the trip. Days perhaps weeks by foot, that’s what it would take to get to Central from this small and cheerful town. My eyes searched for a quicker route then, I spotted a train station in a town perhaps a few days walk away. I grasped a pen and circled the town and wrote Take the train. So far, I had most of my route planned out. Oh no, I thought. Rei would search or pursue my whereabouts. I quickly took a blank piece of paper and wrote where I was off too and my reasons. After, I found an envelope and closed it with my father’s seal. Time was short and I needed a bag of some sort too keep my belongings in. I searched the closet nearby and found a backpack. The black book and the map were placed neatly inside the bag but, I needed some books to decipher that book. I scanned each shelf and found only 3 particular books. One about stones and catalysts, chimeras and mysterious creatures and the last one, still remains a mystery. I read the book, it only mentioned of an ancient, mythical place where angels resided. Anything is plausible when you’re an alchemist I thought. I packed those three books, took the letter then, I took the bag and ran up the stairs to finish packing. Once I reached the top, I placed the bag near the entrance. Without warning, I tripped over Sumi, dropped the letter then, she growled in pain. I picked her up off the floor.
“Sumi, I’m sorry.” She looked up to see my face, she was puzzled. I placed her on the couch.
“Be patient, I promise I’ll be done soon.” She whined as I ran towards my bedroom. Everything seemed to be happening so quickly. The pain, my father’s death and the test…his sudden change of heart was so strange and shadowed. My mind was unfocused at the present moment but I desperately needed to hurry and leave. I had chosen some clothing out of my closet, a book I loved too read and the stone, which I left on my dresser. The stone had no string attached to it, which meant I would probably lose the object quite quickly. Minutes after searching for string, I found a long strand of leather, thin but strong. I wrapped it around the stone then tied it around my neck. Sumi jumped eagerly as I appeared before her.
“You ready?” She closed her eyes and meowed joyfully. I clapped my hands together, which formed a transmutation circle. Then, the door turned to metal, one that was strong enough to keep all intruders out. I picked up the letter I dropped and placed it on the stand close to the door. After folding, placing and picking up my bag, I picked up Sumi. The memories, the moments, all won’t be forgotten. Everything was still and quiet, no sound from the outside or from the houses within. I closed the door as I left. Dawn was soon approaching, I knew I had to hurry. I paced down the road about a mile. Once I was over a small hill, I looked back towards the town, reminding myself of all the times and memories I had. Sumi jumped out of my arms and onto the ground. She stared at me.
“We’ll come back soon.” She was quiet as she walked around my legs, wrapping her tail around them. I continued to stare at the town.
“Father, I will make you proud.”

Thank you for the comment. Your the first person to comment on this. Yay! I will try to get the next one very soon here. This is the second part and it is called Encounter with Chaos Alchemist. ^^

It was difficult to leave home after father’s death. The directions and his research will serve me well in the near future. But, I was still uncertain about his warning, no matter how much I pondered on it, I could not solve it.

I have encountered many obstacles during my journey to Central. Uncertain of which direction I walked in, I took out my map. The route I highlighted showed that I would pass through a canyon soon. That’s when I spotted the canyon, just in the distance. As I reached the entrance of the canyon, I felt fear shroud me. Sumi didn’t mind the whistling sound the wind created when it passed through the canyon. But, it annoyed and agitated me. I looked down towards Sumi.

“Sumi, get over here.” She jumped into my arms. Then, I walked into the canyon, without realizing the dangers that were abound ahead. The sheer force of fear let my guard down, for it to take over. I looked at each side, in fear to find something that would ambush me. I sighed and took deep breaths to relax but all was futile. Then, the earth began to tremble. Pieces of rubble and rock began to fall towards the ground. I tried to evade the pieces of earth that began to fall but I decided to take refuge in a crevasse on my left. I just managed to squeeze in. Minutes after, the earth ended its trembling wrath. I peeked out the crevasse to ensure nothing unexpected would happen. Once everything was safe, I squeezed out and cleaned my clothes of any dirt I may have attracted while inside. I gazed at the blue sky; I praised it, until a shadow passed over. It took minutes to realize a shadow passed. I stared at the sky, in disbelief and continued. The secure feeling I had earlier, disappeared when I heard footsteps from behind. Unsure and afraid I rotated my body to see the stranger that was following my steps. No one was around, not one soul. This sent chills up my spine. As I reached the end of the canyon, I was so relieved to find a peaceful field. Its beauty was captivating, the gorgeous flowers and the orchid that stood tall and proud. Night was soon approaching, I decided to camp near the majestic orchid. I gathered wood and prepared a fire. As the wood crackled, I heard someone or something rustling through the field. I gazed at the field but I had seen nothing. But, I asked.

“Who’s there?” Only the soft sound of crickets, singing their melodic music, sounded in the distance. I waited patiently for a reply but when no one did, I rested my head on the tree and drifted into slumber.

The next morning, I awoke to the birds chirping. Sumi was still asleep, which was a surprise to me. She always slept earlier and awoke earlier. How strange, perhaps she kept guard all night, I thought. However, I was quite puzzled about the sounds I heard the night before. I walked and searched the field for any strange object. Then, I came across a silver watch, I had a feeling that I've seen it before. Seemed so familiar, but I have never seen one ever. As I brought the watch close to my face to have a closer look, I seen a village in the distance. I lowered the watch and stared at the village. I didn't notice it yesterday, I thought. I put the watch inside my bag, carefully picked up Sumi and continued towards the village. It seemed to quiet when I arrived. Like a ghost town, empty and perhaps haunted. A carriage, pulled by horses remained in front of an old battered house. They're probably few inhabitants in this village. I took a stroll around town, to see for myself if this place was deserted. Streets were empty, houses black and silent like the night, all but an old woman sat on the side of the street. She seemed surprised and overjoyed, as if she just seen the first sign of life in weeks.

“Hello, young one. Are you looking for someone?” Her fake smile could not hide her sadness and sorrow from me.

“No, I 'm just a traveler. May I ask, what has happened to this town for it to seem so deserted and empty?” Her expression was blank; no life flowed through her body.

“The town was shaken and afraid. Many went missing and many were murdered. The villagers left in fear. Terrified that they, themselves, would end up dead. It all started when those monstrosities came…” I hesitated, scared of what she may reply.

    “What monstrosities?”

“Demon like creatures that feed of the flesh of alchemists and humans.” Quite interesting I thought.

    “When did they first appear?”

“They first appeared a few days ago, the first encounters that were recorded were quite gruesome.” Intrigued of what the old woman had proclaimed, I left the village immediately. Soon after the discussion with the old woman, Sumi had awakened from her long and restful sleep. Just few miles from the village, stood a forest. It would probably take a minimum of one day to exit the forest. As I reached the forest, Sumi jumped out of my arms, alarmed and alert for any danger. I had an eerie feeling as I walked in. I sensed that someone or something was watching Sumi and me from a distance. A pair of ice blue eyes peered out to the bush, emotionless and cold. Its glare primarily focused on me. I shuddered and shivered in fear. I spun in circles, only to find nothing and no one around. Every moment I spent in that forest, I had the intention of being eaten or getting killed. The ice blue eyes followed as I continued, deep into the forest. Although, I had a good sense of direction, I felt completely lost. I took out the map and checked the route once more. Then, I heard something rustling then a cracking sound. I looked behind and seen the eyes but they slowly faded away. Sumi growled, softly but angrily. I shouted in plain fear.

“Show yourself!!!” I was scared out of my mind. Outrageously terrified, I drew a transmutation circle in the dirt to be prepared for anything. As I was creating the circle, an unknown object jumped right into the sky, creating a shadow. As I turned, I stared into its piercing eyes. The creature circled me, its emotionless eyes, focused only on me. I had no weapon other then my alchemy but I don't think alchemy would truly help in this situation. My knees shook but I rose from where I sat and ran for my life. As I ran, the creature caught up, its enormous paw clawed and threw me to the ground. My bag managed to slip off my back and flew towards a tree. Soon after, the creature shrieked in pain. A stranger stood not too far from the creature, with his blade tainted in blood. The creature fled in pain. He approached me and asked in a faint whisper.

“Are you alright?” I fell unconscious after he had asked the question.
Next morning, I had awakened to the beams of sunlight escaping the curtains. The room I slept in was filled with paintings. One painting grasped my interest. It was a painting of a beautiful forest but in the bottom corner, was a pair of blue eyes. Then, someone opened the door swiftly.

“Are you alright?” I jumped up in surprise.

“I’m fine.” I sighed. The stranger smiled, his smile seemed welcoming and warm.

“Would you like anything to eat?” This would be the first meal in days.

“That would be great.” He left the door slightly opened. I stretched my arms and legs then, I realized I had forgotten Sumi. I spotted her, sleeping peacefully on the bed. Without disturbing her slumber, I searched for new and clean clothes and walked down the hall to find where the stranger had gone. A flight of stairs led me to a delicious aroma. The stranger sat in the kitchen reading a book. His hair was black like a crow, blue eyes like the sea; he was wearing a t-shirt with black pants. The odd thing was he was wearing gloves. His gloves had and alchemy symbol on them. Could he be an alchemist I thought. He has seen me reach the end of the stairs and smiled.

“What would you like? I have eggs, bread, and cereal.” I scratched my head.

“I'll serve myself thank you.” Then, I remembered the watch. As I prepared my breakfast, I asked politely.

“By any chance, did you lose a silver watch?” He was surprised, that I mentioned something so small that had no importance.

“Why yes, why do you ask?”

“I found it in a field. Just before a canyon.” He looked up at the ceiling, pondering then; he rose and looked into his coat pocket.

“Yes, that would be mine.” I kept the watch inside my left pocket. I reached in my pocket and took out the watch.

“Before I give this to you, I have few questions that need to be answered.” He seemed disappointed.

“Alright, take a seat and proceed.” I sighed and took a seat.

“What was that creature that attacked me?” He clenched his hands together.

“They are known as chimeras. How are they created? That is the secret of the alchemist who created them.” My father once spoke of chimeras once, only to mention that you should never create them.

“How rude of me, I haven't even told you my name. I am a state alchemist known as Chaos Alchemist.” I was so shocked and surprised.

“That watch….it has the president's hexagram. It’s your ID.” He smiled

“Yes.” I wonder how he received that name. He interrupted my thinking.

“What is your name? And what were you doing in the forest?” I smiled happily.

“I'm Kasumi. I'm travelling to become a state alchemist.” He chuckled a bit.

“What's so funny?” Then, he burst out laughing.

“Sorry if I sound rude but, you have no fighting ability.” I glared, I felt insulted.

“Say what you want but I know I was reckless only relying on alchemy. And I had no weapons……” Then, a loud roar came from outside. I faced Chaos.

“What do you think? The chimera?” He thought a moment.

“It’s a possibility, that thing followed me home about half way. I'll deal with the creature, you stay in the house.” I rose from my chair and slammed my fist angrily into the table.

“No, I feel useless as it is. And I owe you for saving my life. Please, let me help.” He sighed in frustration; he rose and searched for something in the living room. When he cam back, be brought back a dagger.

“Use this. You did say you had no weapon.” I took the dagger then, I ran outside. The Chimera sat patiently, as if waiting for us. Chaos ran for the creature as for me, I would find a good place and draw a transmutation circle. I jumped into the bush and kept a close eye on the battle. At that moment, when chaos hit the chimera in the eye, I ran and drew the circle close to where the chimera would fall.

“Chaos, lure the chimera here!” Chaos pointed his sword at the throat of the chimera; it slowly began to back up. Once it was on the circle, I clapped my hands together then, the chimera vanished. During the transmutation, a huge pair of wings immerged. Chaos stared in disbelief.

“An angel?” He rubbed his eyes. I approached him quickly to ensure he wasn't hurt. “What's wrong?” He continued to rub his eyes.

“I could have sworn I seen an angel. My eyes are deceiving me.” I laughed.

“It must be your imagination.” However, it wasn't, I thought about that transmutation. How did those wings appear? Maybe, it has a link to that night or that morning where I found all the feathers. I stared at Chaos.

“I could use your help. Want to join me?” He smiled, his eyes, red like fire.

“It would be an honour.” I laughed, he sounded like a knight. After, we went inside the house and packed our belongings. Before we left, I whistled. Sumi raced down the stairs, energized and content. She jumped into my arms, delighted to see me. Chaos gazed at the blue sky. Then, he faced me and smiled. I knew that soon, we would face incredible danger. But, is it worth risking my life for a complete stranger?
