They never cease to give you the creeps, do they? If there's one mammal i hate the most, besides the Panda, it's The Rat! No one like a rat, not even the Mafia. I fear these jumping, tail-dragging, overbreeding, disease bearers can take over the world from under our feet, if they wanted to.
What's so dreaded about them is that there's nothing that they can't do. They can chew through iron, they can burrow in anything, they can jump and fall from any height, they'll eat anything and still live, they could kill anything.

There's nothing wrong with rats. They wont do anything to you if you don't do anything to them. They're not going to attack you. I personally think that tarantulas are creepier, but spiders are worse. They're really small, but their poison could kill you. Who knows where one may be lurking. *looks over shoulder*

nobody likes rats (probably the only rodent i hate), but being afraid of them or any other kind of rodent is just absurd.

and enough about spiders. they're not a threat. the most dangerous spiders in the world are the australasian funnel-web spiders. they are fairly aggressive (among the most aggressive spiders), able to penetrate fingernails and give painful bites. 80% of those bites are dry, and some say that funnel-web spiders tend to release venom more frequently than other spiders. also, their venom is known by being one of the fastest acting spider venoms and if you get bit, you still have about 20 minutes to find help (i.e. antivenom). the next most dangerous one is black widow, far less aggressive, inject venom less frequently and if you do get bit, you probably won't die, even without antivenom.

Dropping a rat from 35000 feet is not much different than dropping it from a couple of hundred feet, due to the terminal velocity of aerodynamically challenged objects (like rats) being pretty low.

Let's leave the spiders out of this. I sleep in a room full of spiders, and it's comfy, keeps the flies away.

But then, I love hamsters because of that, I'd still burst into laughter when my hamster (tries to, or actually) bite me

Pet Rats, also known as Fancy Rats arnt so bad. I think they are pretty cute and Intelligent. I would creep out If I see a wild one though.

You wouldnt say they are cute if they ate something really dear to you. I live near a field where Its more likely for Rats to live. They are rarely seen as they are shy Animals really.

Precisely. Terminal velocity is the speed at which the air drag cancels out the gravitational force. When you fall, there is a maximum amount of speed you will not surpass without something like rocket boosters or a propeller helping you overcome the air drag. It has some pretty odd effects. For one, you don't take more impact damage* from jumping out of an airplane than you do jumping out a window from a tall building.

* When jumping out from really high altitudes, the low pressure will have funky effects that you won't encounter closer to ground.

You could drop the rat in a streamlined latex suit, that would increase the terminal velocity probably quite a lot. Though it would also look quite silly.

Very true. But, I'm more cautious around spiders because rats dont scare me as much as they should.

Rats aren't that bad, when I went to Flint schools (Somewhat like Detroit but on a smaller scale) we actually had rats in the windowsill on a few occasions. They dont really do much damage other than chew on stuff. Unless you get into like... motel rats that prolly have diseases >>

That was a factor. There was other human behavior that played a role as well. As soon as people started dropping in a city, people fled to the nearest city. The rats followed them, and so did the black death.

The fact that cats were persecuted as familiars of satan at the time probably didn't help either.
