Woo? Don't have one, so couldn't tell ya
It is not the dreamcast who failed Sega. It is Sega who failed the Dreamcast. Sega killed the dreamcast like an abusive father. It was a great system which never got to truly shine. Thw Dreamcast never failes at all.
It was innovative, it has online features, awesome graphics, virtual memory cards and great games.
It Had the potential to become the greatest game system of its time, it had so many good games in just a short time, if sega had put dvd funcionality in it I bet last generation would have turned out very differently, and there might be another contender in the console wars this gen.
SEGA really started to screw themselves in 1992 when the SEGA-CD was released. their stubborn insistence that shoddy games duct-taped around grainy full-motion video of B-RATE actors standing around cheap sets was the "wave of the future" was SEGA's first self-pounded nail in their own coffin. crap-*** leadership in a company equals one bad descision after another until the entire company collapses under the weight of it's own mediocrity...
The dreamcast died because of the Saturn and X32 (which were failures imo) When they finally did something right, they ran out of cash, no longer able to support the dreamcast; they killed it. SEGA then went from a software company to a 5th rate software company in less then 5 years.
The Dreamcast was a great system. Which had a good amount of worthwhile games considering its short lifespan. In Japan it didn't help that they cut short the life of the Saturn which was fairly successful over there just because Sega of America failed with it and needed something new.
Whose to say if the add-ons for the Genesis and the failure of the Saturn in North America really had anything to do with the failures of the Dreamcast. Sony's PS2 hype and the fact that the PS2 was and was going to be the cheapest DVD player on the market when it came out helped greatly.
The Sega CD was expensive yes. It had too many FMV games. Well Sega in the west focused way to much on them leading people to think its all the system had. In Japan the Megadrive wasn't enough of a player for that add-on to really effect them much I don't think. And in the U.S. at least while it was seen as an expensive failure I dunno if that was really enough to get people to move away from Sega. Because it wasn't like support for the Genesis stopped.
the 32x well. That was a horrible mistake. A mistake which I feel was worst than the Sega CD.
But the bigger mistake that I feel Sega made was the suprise release of the Saturn in the US for $400. $100 more than Sony's PS1. The Saturn being hard to develop for, figuring out out to use the multiple proccessors and share the RAM between them. Sega's last minute attempt at making it into a 3D console, and Sega of Americas insistance on 3D games and no RPG's helped to push companies like Working Designs away here. Final Fantasy 7 pushed RPG's into the mainstream here. Something Sega failed to see and capitalize on.
Sega's mis-steps caused EA to abondon ship. And with that meant they took Madden and there other sports games with them which helped the Genesis be popular in the first place.

I love the Dreamcast I wish I still had mine I loved Marvel vs. Capcom on that and Sonic which ever on it was I loved watching the little chaos on the memory card. Oh Dreamcast why did you go

There were many awesome games for this system, like Space Channel 5, Sonic Adventure 2, Puyo Pop, Resident Evil series, Grandia 2, etc. and etc. I just had trouble warming up to the controller design. It was a little awkward for me to hold having the chord located on the bottom.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you enjoy... I dunno... Project Justice, as every other decent game on the system made it out of there eventually.I bought a dreamcast
Ehhh, I dunno if I'll stick around. We'll see.
