Question with the double consonants, or the small っ...

Before: I'm currently learning Japanese, I'm only a beginner though. I know all hiragana, numbers, months, simple sentences and grammar, but not much more.

OK SO, a couple days ago I was reading this manga scan online, and in one of the pages that splits the chapters there's a picture to separate it. And in one of the pictures, a character said her catch phrase にゅう! (Nyuu), but it was spelled as

にゅうっ!

And i thought the っ were added to make double consonants or whatever they are called, like in words like あさって.

It may have been a random line or something but I'm pretty sure it looked like a っ.

If that's at the end of a sentence, it means a sharp break.

「は！」is "Hah!", the length at the end is normal. But 「はっ！」is "Ha!" a very short break at the end.
