Me and my friend are having a little debate and I want your guys opinion. I'm currently obsessed with the show btw and watched the entire series in one weekend and I thought it was pretty epic especially the fight between Aang and Ozai.

I, myself, consider anything with that particular art style and color pallet an anime. The thin lines, detailed characters, and well-proportioned characters resemble that of other animes. Some people base an anime off of where it came from. Avatar is written by Americans and animated in South Korea, so some might argue that it is not Japanese and, therefore, not an anime.
I definatley consider it an anime from the style, and It is one of the few American-Made cartoons I enjoy. They didn't slaughter the style and they did a very good job. I love the series!!!
GO ZUKKO, FTW!!!!!
Fatal Frame II
Because Friendship is MAGIC!
Anime is JAPANESE animaton. Nothing else. Even if your anime streaming website has it is is not an anime. This isn't the same as OEL manga where it's manga because of its format.
Oh I wasn't saying it because the anime sight had it. I was saying so because I believe any country can make anime if they want especially where they mean to make to make anime-styled like that did with avatar. I also consider it anime since The creators been at anime-cons to answer questions and to see fans. Questions like : did Jet? Did Combustion Man die? Will Zuko find his mother? Is there going to be Actually there was supposed to be a reunion scene between Zuko and his mother. Oh I heard M. Night is making an Avatar movie. I hope not though I think hes the worst director ever.

In my opinion, avatar is an American anime... It can be considered as anime in certain places but it is definitely an Americanized version of anime...
Will you be my butler from Hell?
I'm sorry to say, it is a cheap version of Naruto. It has good animation but basically the same thing as Naruto.
It is an animated picture therefore an anime, but not what I would consider as an anime such as the one's on cartoon network.
It is an American cartoon that is influenced by certain anime (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, FLCL, etc.) and uses an animation style similar to many anime. However, as far as I know, the creators have never acknowledged it as an actual anime, and they get the final say.
Also, it is NOT a Naruto rip-off. Both are good stories with some minor similarities, nothing to cry "foul" over.
uhm . . . well, I never thought of it as anything like Naruto.
And, I don't think of it as anime either. I think of it as . . . American Animation Stuff!!! woo! What's really weird is seeing it as a manga.
"Anime" is just a shortened term for "animation", but uses specifically to refer to animation using the manga art style.
Does it have a manga art-style? Is it animated? Then it's anime. It's place of origin doesn't matter. To say it does is like saying you a painting can't be baroque because it wasn't made in 17th century Italy, and that's just retarded.
"Anime" originated in Japan, but that doesn't mean that "anime" is limited to Japan.

"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
I used to love that show and was completely obsessed with it for three years, but then I started watching anime and didn't like Avatar that much anymore... it seemed to immature for anime. Dunno... just my opinion, don't hate me for it, 'caus I WAS obsessed.
btw, does anyone wanna buy my season 1 + season two box sets, and my trading cards? If so, let me know, caus they're taking up space on my book shelf and I only used them once or twice...
lol im currently obsessed with it its only seemed immature because It was on nickelodeon and they have heavy censors. Like the creators wanted to do Jet's death differently and Im pretty sure that wanted a little more violence. I am tempted to buy your season 1 and 2 but I dont need the trading cards and Im probably just gonna buy all 3 seasons new.
No. its not made in the east
Just Your Friendly Neighborhood Wowzabunny
For all that said that Avatar is not Anime, then I approve you.
Anime=Japanese Animation.
Avatar is made by Nick, is Nick from Japan? Eh...no.
We American refer Anime as cartoons too.

Now, making a fan Anime is a different story, I was going to make one like a few of you guys know but the project was canceled.

That seems contradictory to me. According to your logic if you want to make an anime no matter how bad you want to or like anime or how good you are at making anime-style drawings. I wont ever be anime unless you make it in Japan, so why bother? To me anime is based on the style of drawing and being manga-like not place of production.
i dont think you can call something that was created by Nickelodeon an anime..im sorry..Before you know it ppl might start asking if Ben10 is an anime. OO'' and that my friend would be the end of the world
Avatar is on nickelodeon but created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, both anime fans and tried to make the show just like any other anime. I say they accomplished. They get their own panels at anime cons. If Nickelodeon bought rights to Naruto would it no longer be an anime? K' dash rocks btw.
Naruto would still be an anime no matter who got the rights to it.
For me, any animated cartoon from Japan is called "anime". Because of this, I do not consider Avatar: The Last Airbender an anime, no matter how close to an anime it is. While I am fully aware what "anime" means in Japan, for the sake of conversation, I do not consider anything made outside Japan as anime. For example, the Japanese might call Spongebob Squarepants an anime but Americans would not based on their definition of the word.
Also, the "style" alone, for me, does not make the show an anime as the stlyes used in anime are extremely varied.
This is my war face.
This is what happens to trolls who mess with me.
That's exactly what it is. Close-minded Otakuism, or just being a Japanophile.
Read what I said above.
To say it isn't is like saying you a painting can't be baroque because it wasn't made in 17th century Italy, and that's just wrong.

I'm one of the few people that you can call close-minded, I don't support fanboys nor fangirls, but it just the way it works. This goes for Teen Titans as well, even if one of the opening songs was in Japanese, it doesn't make it an Anime, DC is not from Japan. :o
However, this Powerpuff Girl Z anime makes my point weak.

I said that I canceled for lack of active and decent artists, I take it as a good experience tho.
Yeah i noticed it kinda of has Anime style Characters. But i say its not really a true Anime.
The artist probably wanted to make it anime.
But couldn't.
Because It wasn't good enough?
I HAVE NO CLUE.
But I don't think it counts.
?
I guess it never occurred to youthat you might actually have to bleed.
