Kurogane VS Kamui - TRC Tokyo Revelation

Hello..
Frustration after only 1 out of 4 paper of final exam makes me want to draw more..so..

Im experimenting stone and rock painting and I find that this series TRC Tokyo Revelation fits backgrounds that I would like to create perfectly. The design is based on various screenshot of the anime and the pose of those 2 guy are original from the episode too..

but..
The scene looks like a stage though.. im guessing object balance are the one at fault. lighting also quite a problem. hopefully someone might be able to help to solve this problem..

Lovely quality. But no real feel of a fight going on. What you need here is some motion around the characters. Maybe some smoke/dust would help.

haha u absolutely right.. now i see that they are posing to be captured in cosplay events.. Im trying to figure out how to create the smoke effect as i am really bad at it..

It's really good I must say.Yet I agree with karo-chan,no fight feel in it.
I'm not really liking the outer glow around them.Nice setting aswell :]

Perhaps it also feels like a "stage" because there is no interaction between the feet of the two characters and the ground. They're standing on loose sandy ground (or so I think they should), but their feet seem to be standing on solid hard ground. And adding some motion like karuto said, would be a good idea.
btw, I love the contrast between the vectored characters and the painted background, very nice, very nice

Thanks for u guys comments. the project stall till wednesday as Im now focusing on upcoming exam this monday and tuesday. I promise to improve it and karuto are offering me technique to do the smoke which I really looking for.

Ive refined the sky further as I didnt satisfied how the clouds turns out before. Also add zoom blur to add a sense of movement but I hope this will be removed after I add the smoke dust effect, simply because I didnt like it.. haha

You do justice to the background. The motion blur worked. But not on the characters. Especially the blurred bit of the sword. It looks REAL obvious there. Better lose that and I'll help you out with that effect as soon as possible.

Im still waiting for ur PSD haha. its 1.0AM at my time so I guess i gonna sleep now.
about the blurred on the sword.. Wih my monitor I couldnt see it, until I raised the brightness from 0 to 46!.. anyway I didnt like the blur, and for my desktop wall (I always make my art as my own wallpaper). Ive removed it plus tweak the color hues a bit. will upload again once Ive added the dust smoke effect

Awesome background, better than anything before but in comparison your characters are very lacking. For starters, your characters are coloured in a different way than the background is, which makes it seem like they're copy/pasted in - not properly blended, i.e., the skin colour/shading is very off (the hands are better shaded than the faces), perspective seems off too (they should be smaller IMO) and they are too dark in general. Moreover, the huge tower is another focal point that's fighting for attention with the characters - make it *much* smaller. I like the colour scheme and clouds in V2 but the dark cloud diagonal is messing up your composition by pointing the viewer in a different direction than other things do. Finally, get rid of the motion blur/blur in general for now.
Damn your painting skills, I wish I had them >_<

I am trying to make the composition as anime like where the background will have smooth painting style color scheme but the character will be much simpler.
I'm guessing the one at fault is the color hues between the bg and the character but I'm still failed to correct it probably because of the sky color.

I've make the character bigger now and make the tower smaller. I've removed the motion blur but replace it with lens blur, to make the wallpaper focused on the character even greater. The sky angle has been fixed and I've distorted the cloud using perspective tool, which I think help to gave some depth to the sky. The clouds also colored to match the sky hues.

For the character, I've tweak the the color hue and brightness.

Anime style has much less background detail anyway, but it's not that easy to make it look like that. Don't blur the background (or only very very slightly, much less than now), it doesn't work well since characters are sharp. Also, make their faces more shaded - you won't make it anime-like without redoing them completely, since the rest of their body looks like a totally different style.

If you are refering to kamui face,according to the anime his faces are always calm even when he is fighting or being attacked ( I mean he doent show any pain/angry on his face). but I have to admit, I'm really struggling just to get this type of face come to life .one of my failed example is my previous hitman reborn wallpaper.

I dont agree with this.. if you watch "Beyond the cloud", "Byoukusoku 5cm" by makoto shinkai or Gundam 00,you will know how detail the backgrounds are..
anyway I've do as you suggested, removed the blur, add more shades to the face and I've added some zoom blur on the ground to illustrate some wind force from their fighting...

Gundam 00 is not really in the same league as Shinkai's works - but such quality works are few and far between. However Shinkai does hard cell shading while still lighting the characters properly.
The last revision looks great except for the character pose. I kinda miss the way CLAMP exaggerates the proportions :-/

okay.. thank you for your suggestion before.. it really helps me. Ya I have to agree with clamp drawing style.. even tsubasa chronicle series doesnt apply the clamp style properly until Tokyo revelation OVA (which is done by clamp itself if Im not mistaken). I do aiming to draw like them.. Now that really show how far it is my poor drawing skill are from them.. haha

about the the smoke effect.. Hmm i guess I gonna lose them because i cant make it blended with the ground eventhough I based on karuto PSD. I try to apply it on my next wallpaper so I just leave this like that for now. Thank you very much karuto for spendng your time to help me with the PSD. and of course everyone too..

Amazing. You've done a lot from the first image down to the latest one. Much, much better. Give yourself some applause. The dust/sand effect at their feet is nicely done, though some could argue it might be a bit too noisy. It is sand though, so don't worry about it.
