    Default Is anime going indie?

I noticed that all anime seems to be trying so hard to be unique that its just getting worse? Anyone else thinking this? Well they've gotta be unique for some aspects but there's a fine line between "genius" and "nutter"

I'm not sure what you're getting at by "indie". Indie is just "Independent".

And, no, it's not. It's becoming more and more of the same archetypes. This year and last year's batches of new anime were, for the most part, let downs, and it's beens similar for the past few years.

I do realize that with such media you have to take into consideration that every so often the industry goes through phases creating similar things because they market well, and occasionally, that creates limitations with the diversity of series. I also realize that in an industry such as this, things build off one another, so you are not going to ever got true "originality". What we can hope for though is progression in writing, art, and direction with how these partially varied archetypes are managed. Of course, I think this is what we are seeing now.

    Basically, give it time.

I don't agree with you. Not all anime are like that.

Unique?Have you heard of all the Death Note rip-offs?Code Geass rip-offs? Just stick to anime that doesn't have much popularity. Those are usually the best ones.

When i say unique, i mean the comedy factor, action factor, overall story, although animes take from others, if they did it properly there wouldn't be a problem, but it all this new anime seems all flash and indie, and no substance, compare shippudden to the original naruto, right maybe indie was the wrong word, lets say commercialism is getting to the latest animes

So...what? They're like action movies? Special effects, gimicks, recycled plots, bad, bad dialogue and a reliance on novelty? They sell well and they're cheap to make. Good things are'nt common. That's why they're good. Be patient and another good series will emerge given enough time.

I judge stuff not necessarily on its originality or its uniqueness, but on its lasting value. If, five or ten years from now, I cannot enjoy something, then it wasn't very good to begin with. Good stuff (doesn't matter what) should be able to be used again and again for long periods of time without the associated enjoyment lessening. It matters little if it was popular, unpopular, inconspicuous or seemed dumb or seemed great when it first came to be. I just think it makes more sense that way, so I guess I don't understand what the fuss over series being similar of formulaic is all about.

Lately I've been looking to newer series, and it seems like the only ones that hold my interest are manhwa. I wonder how the wee-a-boos will treat manwha is continues to grow.
Manga, however, seems to be getting worse. I watched Yu yu hakusho and liked it a lot more than Bleach.

The fact is, anime are definitely becoming more generic and typical. But considering how the Japanese economy has being going for the past few years it's completely understandable, if not acceptable.

Since anime are a commercial product, they need to ensure that the anime is as popular as possible. And since the economy is tight, studios are much less likely to give an 'experimental' or 'different' anime the green light. Such anime pose a much higher risk than a show which follows a tried and true formula which has proven successful in the past. While it is true that there have been huge successes with experimental titles (Such as Neon Genesis Evangelion), by and large these are rarer and riskier.

So while times are tight, it is much more likely for studios to play it safe for a while.
