Anyone bake? I'm thinking on making some muffins to surprise everyone, and so that we'll have something to live off besides chili for the next few days. Any tips? I don't want to screw it up.

Tip:
Don't ever go fancy and put mints and stuff not necessary.
Do mix batter until there are no bubbles or stuff left over.

I love to bake. I make the most delicious peanut butter cookies.

As for muffins, I don't make alot of those. You could try banana nut muffins, I always love those.

Well I bake muffins and other things for a living, so I can give you several tips:

Make sure the batter is mixed until completely smooth

Don't put too much water into the mixture or the muffins will sink. Similarly, if you are using a muffin scoop to dish out the mixture then don't dip it in water too often or the same thing will happen.

Make sure the tray/dish that you put the muffins on is extremely well greased. Grease it a lot - then grease it some more.

When you take the muffins out of the tray/dish, hold it at an angle so that gravity will help you get the muffins out.

Don't put too much chocolate in the muffins or they will tear apart when you try and remove them because the chocolate will bake to the tray.

I made a gingerbread house a few weeks ago for my friend's 21st birthday and I make Pineapple upside down cakes all the time. And bread and butter pudding. Om nom nom!

I have baked some nice things in the passed, the best one being my giant chocolate cake. It looked perfect along with lots of different and suitable decorating sweets atop it. It looked as though it was baked by an expert and I admit that I am not an expert at cooking, but this cake was perfect and tasted excellent too. It was something that I felt pride over for perfection. I was just happy that I have a high metabolism as it was quite big.

I can bake some things. Like cookies, muffins and brownies (These are normally special baked goods). I can't bake cake though, that's mission impossible o.o

I learned two things from my experience on baking.

1. Don't add too much water. Whatever you're making will be mush on the inside.

2. Always grease the tray. Otherwise you'll destroy whatever you made, and clean up will take longer. (It's fun to cook, but cleaning up sux)

I think I'm late for this thread but, I bake a lot.

Tips: Know your oven; temperatures on ovens are kind of like guidelines. Sure it might say 180ºC but it's probably lying. This is important so you don't burn or under cook food. Pre-heating the oven is always a good idea too.

If your muffins come out too dry, place a pan of water in the oven while your muffins cook, it will make them more moist.

This one is obvious but, line the muffin tin with the paper cases, that way you don't have to grease it.

If you're making muffins from scratch, milk can be substituted with buttermilk, it makes the muffins have a more "fluffy" sort of texture.

With muffins your worst enemy is probably burning. It likes to sneak up on you especially if you're using the cheap pans.

Generally I'll pull things early and bake more if I have to. You could also try using double paper cups but I don't know how much that would help.

Most of my friends and mom bake, but not me =.= I've never actually 'tried' for real. When I was young i used to make up stuff, and then since i wasn't allowed to use the oven, I go outside and make my own fire instead xD which of course didn't come out too good. x.x'

sorry but im not good at baking. but im good at cooking. last time i tried to bake a cake. the cake fall off my hands and i left a mess in the kitchen.*laughs* it was funny!!
