    Default Peta/alf

I'm not really the type to really wish death upon people, but I have to make an exemption to a group that I personally label terrorists, PETA (in addition to the Animal Liberation Front).

They are now begging Ben and Jerry's to put human breast milk in their ice cream claiming cow milk causes autism. For someone with a sibling with autism and as a volunteer to a classroom for such students, I feel beyond offended. Especially when there's no official medical confirmed cause of the disorder. Even though I was never really fond of PETA to begin with, this statement hit me hard. If anybody kills every last one of these hypocrites, especially their liar and hypocrite founder, should get a presidential medal of freedom, and will get a beer and safe housing from me.

In general, the only people more ridiculous than PETA is the people who hate PETA. It's not like PETA is ever going to accomplish anything, so why bother hating them? They're not worse than any other fanatics.

They're a lot worse than annoyances. Working in a grocery store durring high school I've been aquainted with their fanaticism. They used to have people go through our store and fill carts with animal products (including milk, eggs, even pudding) and leave them out in a corner of the store to spoil. The store would lose up to $150 per cart, eventually we had ban the members from the property.

As for the whole ice cream thing, WTF? They're obviously just trying to be pests as usual, do I even need to mention that there are several inherant problems with that proposition?

There will always be strange and rediculous claims by people who think they have 'found the answer'.

Unfortunaltly we can't so anything about that. Extremists. More trouble than they're worth.

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly offends you about this? Is it that they consider autism as something that should be avoided if possible? I think a lot of people would chose to not have autism if they had the choice.

PETA has done some pretty crazy destructive crap. It ranges from bumping their boats into whaling boats to antagonize then to getting naked a waving around signs in public family-populated places.
Their methods can be almost as despicable as their ideals.

What here is hard to understand? The offensive part is that they are claiming that Cattle milk causes cancer in spite of the complete and total lack of scientific evidence. Not to mention this implicitly blames Autistic children's parents for giving their children cattle milk and therefore autism, which would be a justifiable position- IF true.

Not to mention that the whole thing dredges up the Anti-Vaccine crazies.

Eh my PETA fav was saying we should use breast milk to make ice cream because milking cows is bad. I think a women farm is a tad worse don't you think LOL.

As Eris said, there is no point in spending your precious time hating fail groups.

I'm asking the OP, not you. I'm not offended by any of the things mentioned, and I don't even know what cancer has to do with any of this.

It wouldn't be justifiable if true. The parents didn't know any better than the child in this case. If you'd blame them you'd might as well blame the child for drinking it.

Then I ask you to reread what they posted, because I don't know how they could have been anymore clear. Protip: It wasn't that PETA is claiming that Autism could be caused by non genetic factors.

    Emphasis mine.

They are now begging Ben and Jerry's to put human breast milk in their ice cream claiming cow milk causes autism. For someone with a sibling with autism and as a volunteer to a classroom for such students, I feel beyond offended. Especially when there's no official medical confirmed cause of the disorder.
Their position is that PETA is blatently using Autistic people as a tool to forward their political agenda, and doing so on the flimsiest of evidence.

Also, Mispoke myself on the cancer, I meant autism. I typed the reply in 30 seconds and didn't give it a total re-read.
It wouldn't be justifiable if true. The parents didn't know any better than the child in this case. If you'd blame them you'd might as well blame the child for drinking it.
I'm saying that it would be justifiable to make the augment (that cattle milk causes autism) and the implied argument (that if you feed your children cattle-based dairy products you are a bad parent) if the first was anywhere approaching true. The other alternative, that it's invalid to hold people's choices as a possible cause for their children's disease if milk was proven to cause autism, is plain silly. But I'm not claiming that people should have retroactive guilt over it, although that is exactly what would happen.

If the Milk-Autism connection was true people would have sense of responsibility over their children's plight and they would feel guilt over it in the same way that parents felt a sense a responsibility over their use of lead-based paint causing developmental issues in their children. Should they be beaten up over it? No. But if the science was there, then there'd be a cause and effect, and the implications would be valid. The other extreme is denial.

Polymorphism of bovine beta-casein and its potential effect on human health, page 7/10.

    Relevant bit, emphasis mine.

The hypothesis that a high consumption of A1 beta-casein increases the risk of DM-1, IHD, SIDS, schizophrenia and autism is very intriguing and interesting for basic as well as application studies. However, some pieces of evidence in relation to human illnesses are not strong enough and should be verified. Therefore it is necessary to continue research into the role of BCM-7 (originating from both raw and processed milk, e.g. cheese) for human health.
Also: This. Lots of sources, and the Doctor describing the extremly limited conditions which were used in some of the papers mentioned.

Well, they do accomplish being over-zealous idiots, lying to people to get them into their cult of followers .. if that counts as 'something'.

i never really liked peta, that take this too far sometimes..though some of the things they showed on there video's were sick. thay want people to care for animal's and love them but the way they act isn't helping them, really,i think it's doing more damage then good. they are never going to get people to stop eating meat or using animal products. they should help people when they can't take care of there animals, not throw paint on someone wearing fur.

They want people to care about animals and hate people, it seems.

    Old news.

It's statements like that which turn them into a laughing stock.

Firstly, PETA is a bunch of hypocrites. Get mad at others for killing animals, then kill them yourself? And the Holocaust is morally comparable apparently to animals being killed.

    Step outside yourself
    And let your mind go

However, some pieces of evidence in relation to human illness are not strong enough and should be verified. Therefore it is necessary to continue research into the role of BCM-7 (originating from both raw and processed milk, e.g. cheese) for human health.
I know that it's not 100% concrete, but the trend is still there and so they recommend further research (and go on to say where further research is required).

With the blog link. The article I put up isn't mentioned at all, not even in the review. But it was an interesting read.

I'm sorry Eris but I disagree with you, as an Australian PETA have actually managed to cause the Australian farming industry a great amount of grief due to their 'beliefs'. PETA have managed to lobby several countries not to buy Australian wool due to Australians practicing mulesing. Which, while painful, actually saves the sheep from a very slow and agonizing death.

While other practices are being researched, this does not seem to be enough for PETA, who prefer grandstanding to actually helping to save animals lives and would rather cripple a struggling farming industry suffering the worst drought in 100 years.

So basically, PETA, I hope you rot in hell.

PETA seem to be more interested in harming people than saving animals. IMO.

Hold on, A (as in a single) study found a link between milks that have been enzyme digested for longer periods than other milks, and are correlating those findings to cases of several different infantile diseases. Oh Em GEE!!! I need to have myself checked for Autism right away!!

And what about the other 99.9999999999999% of people who were fed milk in their early years who came up as perfectly healthy babies?? Most of this is theoretical and needs to be studied further, but seriously?? Drinking milk is bad for me?? I WAS right when i was 3!! Take that, mom!!

I think any scientist that wasn't being paid off by some group to tell it's skewed side of the story would be HARD pressed to find a serious, definite link between milk and infantile diseases.

You know what the moral of this story should be? Don't let your milk sit in the fridge, I bet that will preventively cure some cases of autism before they ever spark up.

    Seriously, people.

It's not one study, it's many studies and a lot of which, are ongoing. It's also not the enzymes in milk but the proteins, specifically beta-caseins.

Correlation is not Causation, though. There's a chance the proteins have something to do Autism, and that's all we could deduce, even assuming that the research isn't faulty in some way.

With the blog link. The article I put up isn't mentioned at all, not even in the review. But it was an interesting read.
Near as I can tell, that paper didn't contain a scrap of original research, so it's not surprising that it wasn't mentioned.

Also worth noting, that paper says that BSM-7 is also in human breast milk. If so, Peta's entire premise is faulty.

This would also indicate that the parents that fear their children being autistic should knee-jerk and feed their children formula, depriving them of the immune system boost they'd get from breast milk. This is especially hilarious in light of the fact that many worried parents have taken to not vaccinating their children due to some insanely biased studies. Yay higher child mortality rates due to stupidly negligent parenting! Darwin isn't dead yet.

A lot of studies, many of which have extremely small sample sizes and are therefore of no worth, and none of which have proven causation.

I'm not saying that it shouldn't be researched, but the number of studies conducted is nowhere near as important as the quality of studies conducted.
