Hey all,
This is for the ones who have seen The Dark Knight. What is your personal opinion on Heath Ledger's Joker? For me, it has to be that Ledger's version was more violent and cruel than Jack Nicholson's portrayal.

It was a bit over-done,but a good over-done.
sorry again to the ones who are in english world but i think great was the performance that he had done to make such good the movie!!!!!
Yeah I suppose it is more violent and cruel than Nicholson's portrayal and that's a good thing. Heath started his role intending it to be different from Nicholson's manifestation.
IMO he did a very good job. From the very start, he was very dedicated in his performance. He even stayed in the motel for a month alone just to practice the voice, posture and personality. (That however, may have had a hand in his accidental overdose).
When I was watching the film, I couldn't recognize Heath at all.
Definitely well done. I really hope he gets a posthumous Award.
Me too - I think he's up for an Oscar for his role as the Joker.

I was absolutely amazed. It was the last movie he completed before his death, which I find fitting.
The director said that there will be no more Batman movies with The Joker in it. And good for that.
Oscar or not, Ledger's portrayal of The Joker will be one I'll probably be telling my kids and grandkids about many years from now.

I loved it, was the best acting I had seen in awhile. Nothing could compare. That laughter, you can't fake that so easy. ♥
Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness, and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.

In all honesty, I went into this movie trying to be open minded about the Joker and Ledger's performance. I thought that because this was Ledger's last role that a lot of people would be playing it up and talking about what a fantastic job he did--even if it was just mediocre.
But, I was impressed. What usually impresses me with acting is when you can't see any of the actor's other roles in the one their working on. When they're good enough to suck you in that you forget what else they've done and who they are in the public eye.
If I hadn't already known it was Ledger acting as the Joker, I wouldn't have guessed it was him. I thought he did an excellent job.
Unfotunetly I have not yet seen this film, although I really want to after having watched "Batman Begins". It looks amazing though.
I have driven past the Warehouse in which the filming for the first movie was done, as it was filmed in England. Gigantic place. They even parked the new bat-mobile outside of a local pub to get a drink.
That which is; is the truth.
I was blown away by Heath Ledger's performance, it was perfect for the direction The Dark Knight and Batman Begins has taken Batman.
Thankfully, there wont be another Batman film with the Joker in, because not a single actor alive could fill Heath Ledger's shoes.
I was extremely impressed with Ledger's performance. No one could have played The Joker better than him. I couldn't even recognize that it was him.
Do you believe it in your head?
Believable. He scared me. But I loved his character at the same time
Two words to describe his magical performance- Pure genius
Nicholson's portrayal was great too.He had the creepy tone that TH ORIGINAL JOKER has,but the modern day one was more sadistic.Personally,I think Nicholson did a bit better than Ledger. The TV Joker always had that creepy laugh.I don't remember Ledger's laugh being creepy.
the best i've ever seen. perhaps maybe only thing.
At first I didn't like it because I liked the older look of The Joker, however after seeing how he portrayed him, the make up was totally fitting (It reminded me of the 40's Joker, ya know when he first came out, as some mass murderer). Either way The Joker made me lol. I liked his videos. Honestly they both did a GREAT job at The Joker. Still, Mark Hamill has the best laugh.

As some have already stated, I thought that people were making a big deal about his role as the Joker because this was his last act; this wasn't the case at all.
This was way out of the cookie-cutter for Ledger, and he made it work. Strong persona, and very consistent acting; even the stuttering he did when speaking to the first group of thugs that he robbed earlier seemed like natural dialogue instead of acting. Fantastic job.
Heath Ledger is the only real Joker.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is, "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, "Probably because of something you did."
There isn't enough words in the English Lexicon to describe how amazing Heath is in this role. He has set the bar, not only for comic-book-film villains, but for bad guys in movies in general. His deranged psychi, twisted sense of humor, maniacal enjoyment of all things chaotic, he is the pinnacle of evil and a great incarnation of it.
Heath deserves at least an Oscar nomination if not the win. He surpassed the level of acting I thought he was capable of, and delivered an experience I won't soon forget. He vanished into the role of Joker and basically stole the film. Dynamic, that's all I can think to say.
I've seen Dark Knight twice, and I could see it again, it's that good. I'm angered at the fact that Heath still had such a long career ahead of him, and we'll never get to see the awesome films he could've made. I regret thinking Ledger a sub-par actor, I was only going on 10 Things I Hate About You and his role in The Patriot. But he blew away my expectations, and delivered cinematic history. One of the BEST villains to ever grace the silver screen, Long Live Ledger.

His performance as the joker converted me to go see a Batman movie. I wanted Batman to die. But of course he never will.
It was incredibly believable and I think he did a great job in the way he used his voice and laughed - the laugh was the best. And how he would lick all the time because of his scars.
Because of his performance. I want to see it again.
I found this on Digg today: early concepts for Joker.
More pictures here.
They're a lot more creepy than the final cut, but I think they made the right decision. I'm not sure if Nolan's Joker was the kind of person to keep his hair trimmed and spiked.
