As the scientific know-how regarding this matter has already been explained, several times over, I would simply like to say that it's silly for people to be worrying about a potentially life-changing, scientifically speaking, experiment that could do a great deal to help advance physics.
Coming from my own personal view point, I think the creation of the LHC and its potential possibilities for unraveling some of the secrets of the universe is a brilliant idea. Scientists, more than any one person may ever know, have sought out to understand why the universe is the way that it is; and if this experiment can help them to come one step closer to realizing the answers to these questions, then I think it's worth going for.
My thanks to Xey Oiz for the awesome new set.
"Screw being normal and be awesome instead!"
I don't trust the Mayans.Your going to trust people who bit the heads off lions and Ozzy Osbourne?I don't think it's going to work.
I'm not racist since they are all dead.
I agree that people are stupid especially the ones who comment on things that they cannot possibly understand.
As far as being dangerous, it is about as dangerous as lighting a firecracker with a match.
I don't think the world scientific communities spent USD$4 billion because they were bored. The LHC will help formulate new physics that will help us develope new technologies, and move us into the future.
As far as all those silly people prophesing the End of days, that is ignorance at its best. Anyone who goes to prophesies for answers needs to have their head read. I wouldn't worry about the end of the world in our lifetime.

Sextus Empiricus advises that we should suspend judgment about virtually all beliefs, that is, we should neither affirm any belief as true nor deny any belief as false.
Pyrrho stated that "nothing is in itself true or false. It only appears so. In the same way, nothing is in itself good or evil. It is only opinion, custom, law, which makes it so."
....well i didn't die today ^___^ so it was all a big stupid myth
...the outcome...there were regrets

About the December 23, 2012 thing, we have a lesson about it in school and while discussing we have stumbled upon an idea of how it goes.
So since the end of the world represents the time that the earth gets really close to the sun (or something along those lines), it most likely means that the chance of the world ending is the greatest on that particular day. It's like there's a high chance of the world ending on 2011, a greater chance in 2012, and back to just being high again on 2013. Then in a far off year 2500, the chance of the world ending will be very, very small.
LHC is NOT going to destroy the world because:
1. Chances of creating a permanent micro black hole are similar to those of winning the lottery 50 times in a row... And LHC's energy is so limited that it's only possible according to some extensions of the standard model theory. Even so, if a micro black hole is created, it would be destroyed very quickly without doing any real damage.
2. Strangelets are nothing but hypothetical objects, and they are very unlikely to actually exist, and even if they did, they would be very unlikely to behave as predicted. We're talking about a theory, part of which has already been debunked. Also, strangelets have never been created in RHIC, and LHC is not much different.
3. Despite all this, CERN scientists are not going to take any chances. They are simply planning to recreate and research the phenomena already documented, so in the worst possible scenario, they might end up destroying nothing but themselves.
...and don't worry, even if LHC actually does destroy the world, at least it will be quick enough to leave you wondering what the hell just happened.
PS. This whole thing about Mayans is ridiculous.

I hate this whole nonsense. No one really knows when the world is gonna end.
Hell, people said the world was gonna end in 1999, then they started saying that the world was gonna end in 2000. So it's not gonna happen. The only way the earth will end is when the sun turns into a supernova (because that is the fate of all stars).
Maybe the whole "reversed big-bang" thing, but thats just a hypothesis.
The world isn't going to end because of the LHC - it will end because resources might run out.

We have a winner. To be fair the 90's were a stupid time.Three zero's symbolize the end of the world?OMG!?I hate this whole nonsense. No one really knows when the world is gonna end.

Since this topic was in reference to Sept 10th and we're all still alive...
